Chapter 50
FREYA
I actually did end up finding the washroom to take a minute to myself. I was a bit unsettled by whatever Aiden said. It sounded nice, way too nice and that was a problem.
I found it increasingly hard to place my belief in those words and it doesn’t take a shrink to tell that these trust issues stemmed from the series of epicly disastrous relationships I’ve had.
Taking a final look at myself in the mirror, I walked out of the washroom. One look at the room and you could tell that all these people had monry coming out of their asses
I grabbed a glass of champagne from the server passing by. That might have been the most expensive champagne had ever tasted.
“Do you know why we are here today?” A pair of footsteps stopped right beside me. looked up at the familiar face. Connor. He took it ay an encouragement to answer his own question
“To conserve manatees.
I checked my smile. The thought of Aiden ever being concerned about manatees was kind of fi
funny. The reason he was here was purely business. I was assuming it was the same for Connor.
“Mr. Warren.“I clipped.
“Connor.” He corrected me
“We should maintain a level of professionalism. Being on a first name basis kind of makes it difficult.” I spoke using my most professional and detached tone, I purposefully avoided looking at him,
From my peripheral vision I could see him look at me.
“Aiden told you” He realized our loud.
“I am not sure what you’re talking about.” I stated. Him and I both knew what he was talking about. But if I were to work with him, the last thing I wanted was in discuss persocul matters.
Otherwise I would’ve given him a piece of my mind. I for one despised people like him. People who betray and cheat. And I had seen way too many of them.
“And now you think I’m a bad person.” Connor concluded.
- me. Any further provocations would not be
“Doesn’t matter what I think.” I took another sip of the champagne. Not speaking my mind was hard for m good for anyone. Clearly he didn’t get the mema to leave the topic because he urged further.
“You shouldn’t rush to judgment without hearing both sides of a story?
I scoffed. “So there’s another side to the story of how you slept with your friend’s girlfriend?”
See! That’s what I was talking about. Not good
“Best friend.” Connor muttered
“Huh?”
“You said friend. Aiden wasn’t just a friend, he was my best friend. And yes there’s another side to the story. I would have actually laughed if he didn’t look that serious while uttering those words.
“So what does this other side say?” I asked.
“It says that I didn’t sleep with his girlfriend on purpose”
I blinked, thinking he didn’t just say that That was the equivalent of li’s not what it looks like‘ bullshit. This time, this time I did snort, clear disbelief on my face. If that offended him, he didn’t show it. Instead he continued with his explanation.
“It was a frat party. I was drunk. I was back after rehab and shit after six months for an injury that cost me from being drafted. Why did that sound

He looked at me. “Football
Well, even if what he said was true, which it somewhat seemed to be, that was no good reason to fuck Your “Bestfriend’s’girlfriend..
“Well, that doesn’t excuse you-”
“I didn’t know they were together, Before I left they were on the verge of breaking up and during those six months I was really detached from everything I didn’t know shit about what happened in college and all. I didn’t want to talk to anyone. Besides Aiden and 1, we weren’t like.. someone cried and and then there’s hugging, we didn’t do all that shit”
Yeah, if I had to put my money on any part of Connor’s words that I thought were true, this would be it. Anden was closed off, he had these walls built up around him and he didn’t let people in So it wasn’t hard to imagine that he didn’t talk abour personal feelings even with his best friend.
“And that night at the party, Penny told me that she and Aiden weren’t together anymore.” He raked a hand through his perfectly styled hair.
“I know I shouldn’t have slept with her considering she had dated my best friend and all but I was drunk. My judgments were a bit clouded and made a mistake, I didn’t know Penny had lied to me until Aidden found us together.
Was this true? Could it be? Why y did it sound like it was!
“Why do I believe you? Maybe I’m just that gullible” I wondered out loud.
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Really.” Sarcasm dripped from his words
“Have you tried explaining to him?”
He let out a humorless chuckle. “You think?”
“Well then try again. Talk to him,” I mean obviously if it was true, he had to make Aiden hear him out, even if he didn’t want to. Connor stared at me, a look on his face that said he was considering my words. He opened his mouth to respond but was interrupted before he could.
“Talk to
to whom?” With his hands thrust inside his pockets, Cillian sauntered closer to us. He looked at me
“Cillian.” I genuinely smiled at him. This guy, however small our interaction, I got a good vibe from him: Cherry, casual and charming
“You look beautiful.” He kissed my cheek, grinning.
“Thank you
Cillian turned his attention to Connor. The grin on his face was still there but laced with barely contained disdain
“Warren. What’s
i’s up man‘ Still sleeping around with other people’s girlfriends!” He took a dig at him right away. Connor chuckled, nodding.
“Always a pleasure talking to you, Knight. They both stared at each other long and hard. Connor was the one to break the contest and look at me.
“Yeah.” I muttered and watched from the comer of my eyes Cillian’s brow dipping at the slightest.
