Chapter 51
FREYA
“How do you know him?” Cillian asked me as soon as Connor was out of hearing distance.
“That’s a long story”
“Huh.” The doubt in his tone was clear. I completely turned to face
“I’m not sleeping with Connor.” I deadpanned. He looked a little surprised, probably not expecting me to bring it up directly.
“I didn’t say you were
“But
you were thinking about it. That did shut him up. He pressed his lips together in a thin line. I got it. He was concerned for his brother and that was understandable. I sighed. “I am not cheating on your brother.”
He looked me in the eye for a solid few seconds before sighing. Maybe he sensed the sincerity in my words.
“Speaking of whom, where’s my brother?” Cillian asked while his eyes scanned the room, looking for Aiden, Lassumed.
“Over there, talking business I guess.” He followed my line to sight and saw his brother speaking to a man in his late thirties. I was expecting Cillian to walk over there. Instead he stood exactly in his place looking at Aiden before averting his gaze. Realization hit me right in the face.
“You haven’t spoken to each other after that dinner, have you?” I asked, noticing how he didn’t make any move to go talk to his brother. Cillian stared at me, the look on his face one of annoyance but he also kind of looked amused.
“Aiden has this habit of understanding unsaid things. Turns out you share this annoying habit of his.”
“It’s been three days.” I stated, ignoring his words that were meant to distract. He was no fool. He knew I had caught on.
“I don’t know what to say to
by to him.” He sighed. “Whatever Dad did and said was unacceptable, I know. I’m sorry he spoke to you that way. He glanced at me apologetically. It was kind of hard to believe how this charming, cordial guy was related to that insolent old man.
I shook my head. “Wasn’t your fault.”
“Dad has always been horrible to both of us. But Aiden has seen more of that than me. He never shared with me but I know he has seen the worst of him.” He thrust his hands inside his pocket, a sad smile playing on his lips. That alone told me he had tried and failed to get his brother to open up. Aiden wasn’t an easy man. He didn’t let anyone see him vulnerable.
I noticed Cillian regarded me with a thoughtful expression.
“Maybe he’ll tell you.” He muttered. And he actually looked serious
“What makes you say that? I mean this sounds way too personal and this thin we have, it’s new. I’m not exactly on top people”

“Ahh, you have no idea. He clicks his tongue. “In fact I have a feeling that you are exactly there. On top of that list” He says that with slightly narrowed eyes. His tone suggested that he wasn’t exactly happy with the said situation.
“Are you jealous that I stole your brother?” I quipped, hardly hiding my smile.
He grinned at me. “You bep
“Seriously, go talk to him.”
Cillun stufted his weight between his feet, contemplating before he decided to take my advice. Directing a smile my way, he started to walk towards where Aiden was standing.
My eyes fell on Erica who was coming this way. She was wearing an off shoulder emerald green dress with a corset bodice and a thigh high slut. She board like a goddess who could easily give the models a run for their money.
The moment her eyes landed on Gillan, the smile on her face dimmed. Both of them slowed down in their steps taking the sweet time to glare at rachother. It was Erica who dragged her eyes away with an annoyed expression and they both simply walked past each other.

Okay, these two! Weird.
“Freya, hey!” The smile was back on her face.
“Hey.” I smiled. She stopped in front of me before her smile turned into a grimace.
“I’m sorry about last Friday night.”
“Friday night? Why are you apologizing?” I was actually confused. As far as my memory served, she didn’t do anything.
“Actually I shouldn’t have been there. It was a family dinner and I’m not family.” She looked genuinely embarrassed. And I didn’t know what to say to make things smooth
“Well you really seemed close. They like you.” I messed up, didn’t I? Something like I’m sure they consider you family probably would’ve been the right thing to say. Erica however didn’t seem to be bothered by my poor communication skills. She shrugged.
“Yeah, we grew up together. Same school, same college. She said before searching my eyes. “But there is nothing between us, we’re just really good friends. I know Aiden must have cleared it by now,”
I nodded, a little embarrassed myself that I had acted
before listening to Aiden. “He told me
“Good. I mean that was awkward. Erica chuckled, with a slight shake of head.
I breathed out a small laugh. “Tell me about it.”
Just then a waiter passed by us. Erica picked up glasses of champagne and extended one to me.
“Now that we have cleared the air, can we be friends! We could go get coffee or something. She was trying to build a relationship. I figured it wouldn’t hurt. I mean she was really sweet and considerate.
“Are you asking me out on a date?” I asked with a teasing smile. She gasped, dramatically placing a hand on her chest. “My, I wouldn’t dare! Aiden would feed me to his pet piranhas.”
I laughed at that. It didn’t seem impossible that Aiden would keep a bunch of flesh eating fishes as his pet.
Automatically my eyes found him across the hall. And as if he could feel the burn of my stare on his back, he turned around. Our eyes l weighted stare sending a jolt of electricity sizzling down my spine.
