Chapter 15
Bernard committed suicide.
He made another cut in the scar left to protect Elisa that year.
After being sent to the hospital, he did not wake up for a whole day and night because he had no will to survive.
The doctor said, “We can do nothing about this. What does he care about most? You can use this to stimulate him. This may help wake him up.”
Celeste cried and said, “Did I do something wrong? Elisa told me not to tell him, but I ended up revealing everything and causing Bernard to end up like this…”
“No, it’s not your fault. He deserves to know. If we keep silent and let him live in resentment for the rest of his life without knowing anything, that will be the cruelest thing to do.”
In order to save Bernard, Celeste took out a video.
It was Elisa’s last words.
Celeste didn’t intend to show Bernard this video so early so that Bernard could suffer a bit longer.
But she never expected that he would kill himself.
They clicked on the video and placed it next to Bernard’s ear.
In the video, an emaciated woman lay on the sickbed, with tubes all over her body.
“Bernard, you are so clever, and I know I can’t hide it from you.
“I’ve never blamed you, so please don’t blame yourself, okay?
“Don’t be sad! I’m just going to set up our new home for our next lifetime first. I’ll be waiting for you there.
“However, you have to promise to live well. And you can only come looking for me when you are exactly 100 years old!
“Also, go and love someone else! Forget about me! Life is so long, and I don’t want you to be alone…”
They saw a tear slowly slide down the corner of Bernard’s closed eyes.
