As she cleaned his wound, Kaylee said, “This needs new stitches. If you want privacy, we can go to Honor Medical. I’ll find a private treatment room – nobody will see.”
William turned slightly, watching her gentle care. His dark eyes softened.
A sharp knock interrupted the quiet.
“William, William, it’s me.” Susanne called through the door. “Are you in?”
Kaylee looked anxiously at William, seeking guidance. Though helping with his injury wasn’t inappropriate, he clearly wanted it kept private.
Her presence would raise questions.
“It’s fine.” William patted her head. “Help me with my shirt, I’ll handle this.”
The wound was bandaged but dressing was still difficult. Kaylee helped him into his shirt.
“Stay here. Don’t worry, no need to hide.”
His calm voice had a strange power, instantly calming her nerves.
William buttoned up while opening the door.
“Sorry to disturb you,” Susanne said. “And I apologize for my outburst earlier.”
“Mm.”
William leaned against the doorframe, his tone neutral.
The message was clear – if this was just small talk, save it.
“I’ve been thinking,” Susanne continued. “Let’s proceed with the engagement and wedding. We’ll get a good lawyer for the prenup to protect the family’s interests.”
“Fine by me, but it’s Alex’s decision.”
“He chose to live with Lucy, then pulled this stunt – what choice does he have!” Susanne sighed. “He’s had it too
Time he learned some lessons.”
easy.
William nodded. “Then we’ll proceed. I’ll hire the best planners for Saturday’s engagement. As his uncle, I’ll cover everything.”
“Extravagant” meant something different to the Morgans. Their engagement parties ran into millions.
“But it’s Alex’s engagement…” Susanne protested weakly.
“Consider it compensation for hitting him,” William replied.
With that settled, Susanne added: “You’ve been single since Miss Watson married, without any close female friends. If you meet someone suitable, think about settling down.”
“That’s my business. Focus on Alex make sure he prepares for his engagement without harassing uninvolved parties,” William’s refusal carried a clear warning.
As the family’s true authority, his words carried weight.
