Chapter 23
William stepped into the hospital elevator and dialed Henry Luther’s number.
After a brief connection, he quickly explained what needed to be done.
Despite Henry’s clear reluctance, he had no choice but to agree.

Late that afternoon, around 5:50, Kaylee finished her ward rounds and was heading back to her office when she noticed William waiting by the nurses‘ station.
He’d swapped his formal morning attire for a more casual look – a light yellow patterned shirt paired with faded jeans.
The change in outfit gave him a completely different aura.
His outfit change didn’t surprise Kaylee – Alex had always done the same, freshening up before important client meetings. Even just standing there, William’s striking features were drawing admiring glances from the nursing staff.
“Mr. Morgan, give me a moment to change,” she called out. Like all doctors, she needed to leave her white coat at Work
Her plan was simple: clean William’s wounds, then meet the realtor. But a young nurse, oblivious to the situation, couldn’t resist teasing, “Got a hot date, Dr. Lawson?”
Kaylee playfully tapped the counter as she passed. “Hardly. Maybe focus on finding your own date instead of gossiping about mine?”
“Please with your looks, I’d have guys lined up around the block!” The nurse shot William an encouraging wink.
News traveled fast in hospitals. Everyone had known about Kaylee and Alex, and after this morning’s bombshell about his engagement, her newly single status was already common knowledge.
After changing, Kaylee led William to the treatment room. His injured right arm meant he needed to remove his shirt completely for wound care. Today, the sight of his back injuries didn’t shock her like before. She worked efficiently – cleaning, rebandaging, and helping him back into his shirt.
“All set, Mr. Morgan. Come back in two days – I’ll be here anytime during the day,” she said, standing.
As they walked toward the parking lot, William broke the silence. “You’re meeting the realtor now? I’ll come with you.”
“That’s really not necessary,” Kaylee protested. “House hunting takes forever – we might end up looking at places all evening. I don’t want you feeling obligated to stay!”
“I’ve got nothing else planned tonight. Besides,” he added after a pause, “going alone isn’t smart. Some landlords might try to take advantage of a young woman on her own jacking up the rent or adding hidden fees.”
William’s words really struck a chord with Kaylee.
Most rentals required one month’s deposit and three months‘ rent upfront.
Kaylee’s goal was to avoid touching too much of the money Wendy had lent her while sorting out her housing situation.
She would indeed be at a disadvantage negotiating with landlords alone.
