Chapter 25
Chapter 25
“So sure this apartment is mine to rent to you?” William asked, unfazed by her revelation.
The realtor beside them, however, looked shocked and flustered.
Kaylee glanced back at the luxury apartment one more time. In the early evening light, warm sunset rays streamed through the floor–to–ceiling ultra–clear glass windows, flooding the entire room. The well–maintained leather sofa set in the living room gleamed softly in the sunlight. Even the sleek metal coffee table with its modern design had taken on a gentle glow.
Everything she saw confirmed her suspicions. No one would rent out a place like this at such a low price. For any
reason.
But instead of pointing this out, she turned back to William and said earnestly, “Because I know I’ve never been particularly lucky. I don’t believe such coincidences would Happen to me.”
William sighed softly. “My staff handled this poorly,” he admitted, acknowledging his involvement.
“Thank you for trying to help, Mr. Morgan.” Kaylee turned to the realtor, “Could you please ask the landlord of the first apartment if they’d accept one month’s deposit and one month’s rent? I can’t afford more right now, but I’m a doctor at Honor Medical Center across the street. My job is stable, and I’ll pay the rent on time when I get my salary next month.”
The realtor glanced at William before trying again, “Miss Lawson, are you… are you sure you won’t reconsider this apartment?”
“No,” Kaylee said firmly. “I can’t keep causing trouble for others because of my situation.”
William lowered his eyes, remaining silent.
The realtor finally contacted the previous landlord. After receiving confirmation, the owner came over, and they signed the contract smoothly.
Back in the car, William voiced his concerns, “Are you really going to stay there? It’s dangerous for a young woman to live in a complex without even security.”
Kaylee shook her head. “It’s fine. I’m at the hospital most of the time anyway. Besides, it’s temporary – once I get my year–end bonus, I can move somewhere better.”
William’s expression remained worried. He wanted to help but couldn’t find the right reason to do so.
Noticing his expression, Kaylee smiled. “William, the He family doesn’t owe me anything, and you don’t need to compensate me. I’m just an ordinary person – I shouldn’t be living in mansions like the He family’s, but in normal places like this.”

“In my memories, the old farmhouse where my mom and I used to live was even worse than this. When it rained hard outside, it rained lightly inside. When the wind blew strong outside, it blew gently inside.” Kaylee’s smile brightened. “That’s why when my mom first brought me to your family’s house, I thought it must be heaven.”
She meant every word. The He mansion had always had climate control, maintaining perfect comfort year–round. She still remembered how it felt to watch snow falling outside while wearing a light dress indoors. It really seemed like the best place in the world.
William found himself running out of arguments. Instead, he asked, “Let me treat you to dinner – as an apology for acting on my own.”

“No need to apologize – I should be thanking you. I just don’t want to be a burden,” Kaylee explained, then nodded. “But dinner would be nice.”
William felt secretly relieved. This girl he’d fallen for was too clever, too clear–sighted. Sometimes he wondered if she deserved someone better.
The restaurant where William took her – he’d made the reservation that morning.
