Chapter 27
Kaylee had never paid attention to economic trends, wealth rankings, or prominent business figures in the country.
Wendy’s father was a renowned corporate lawyer who dealt with the nation’s elite and wealthy. Growing up in this environment, Wendy knew all about the legendary figures in these circles. Among them, William Morgan stood out as particularly remarkable.
Kaylee couldn’t understand what Wendy meant by “being deceived.” “What would anyone gain by tricking me?”
“He could be an impersonator. Are you sure he’s really Alex’s uncle? Did Alex confirm this, or did you just take his word for it?” Wendy fired off questions rapidly.
Simply put, she doubted this man was actually William Morgan. According to rumors, while William wasn’t completely detached from human emotions, he certainly wasn’t the type to casually drive someone home.
“He’s been staying at the Morgan mansion with me these past few days, and… he signed the consent forms for his mother’s surgery today. There’s no mistake.”
Kaylee almost mentioned what Alex had done last night but stopped herself. No point in spreading that story now that she was cutting ties with the Morgan family.
So it really was him?” Wendy seemed surprised. “Why did he drive you home?”
“Well… he knew I was looking for an apartment. He was worried agents or landlords might take advantage of me, so he came along. Then we had dinner together.”
Kaylee briefly explained the evening’s events.
Wendy’s confusion grew with each detail. This behavior seemed completely out of character for the William Morgan she’d heard about!
“Could he… like you?”
“Impossible. He’s interested in someone else,” Kaylee stated firmly.
Though she didn’t know William well, she’d heard enough from Alex to know he was exceptionally accomplished in every way.
“But he’s being unusually nice to you,” Wendy pressed.
Kaylee explained, “About my mother’s incident years ago I always thought the Morgan family had made amends with the compensation, but William feels they owe me more since their family’s actions cost me my mother.” “Well… that makes some sense,” Wendy conceded.
She asked about Kaylee’s new apartment, but Kaylee kept the details
vague
Being naturally easygoing, Wendy assumed Kaylee would make good use of the press further.
ey she’d lent her and didn’t
That night, Wendy shared what she knew about William Morgan. Kaylee was amazed to learn that the young man she’d just had dinner with was considered a business legend.
William had studied abroad for many years, made his first fortune through investments on Wall Street, and then founded Panda Tech back home. The company developed its own computer chips and had created a sophisticated proprietary operating system for phones and computers.

“With all his wealth, does he rely on the Morgan family at all?” Kaylee asked.
“Not one bit,” Wendy scoffed. “Even my dad says the Morgans are useless. When William’s eldest brother died, they discovered the family was billions in debt, facing bankruptcy. William was abroad then, and everyone thought he’d never take on this mess.”
