A man completely out of reach 3

Chapter 3

Author: Sophie Herway
Wendy, coming from a wealthy family with a lawyer father, was used to luxury. If something impressed her, it had to be extraordinary.

Kaylee followed Wendy’s pointing finger to a black sedan. As she was about to look away, the driver opened the rear door. A tall man stepped out, his sharp features highlighted in the dim evening light, his dark eyes cold and expressionless. His dark suit caught in the street lamps’ glow, accentuating his imposing figure.

It was him!

Kaylee’s heart skipped a beat.

Several men immediately surrounded him, escorting him toward the club entrance.

“That baldy is Mr. Morris, CEO of Skyhigh Corporation, worth at least 30 billion,” Wendy explained. “And the shorter man beside is Mr. Garnett from Momentum Pictures.”

“The man who just got out of the car… do you know him?” Kaylee asked.

“Never seen him,” Wendy shook her head. “But that’s Henry Luther next to him – notorious playboy. Anyone who hangs out with him is bad news.”

For some reason, the man suddenly glanced in her direction. His gaze lingered for a second before he turned and walked straight into the club. Kaylee was certain – he had seen her!

“Look at this…” Kaylee showed Wendy the cufflink.

“Black opal – expensive. Don’t tell me it’s Alex’s…”

“No, it’s his,” Kaylee explained last night’s events. “I should return it to his security.”

“Anyone who hangs with Henry is trouble. He probably just wants to hook up with you because you’re pretty,” Wendy linked arms with her. “I’ll go with you.”

Kaylee was strikingly beautiful – a classic heartthrob. If she’d been born wealthy, her looks would have been an asset. Instead, they often brought trouble.

Before they reached security, a man in glasses approached. “Miss Lawson, my boss will collect the cufflink from you personally later.”

Kaylee froze.

“What? He can’t just expect a girl he doesn’t know to keep his cufflink! Is he that entitled?” Wendy bristled.

“The boss says he knows Miss Lawson. She just doesn’t remember him.”

Kaylee glanced at the bodyguards beside him, realizing that man must be someone with high status.

Not wanting to cause trouble for Wendy, she quickly said, “Let’s deal with this another time.”

She pulled Wendy toward the street.

Since they’d both been drinking, they called for a designated driver.

Once in the car, Wendy angrily said, “Why did you chicken out? Someone like him can find you easily. If you don’t deal with it now, what happens when he shows up at your hospital?”

“Then I’ll return it there,” Kaylee said firmly. “Besides, I helped him. He won’t cause problems.”

“If he bothers you, Dad will sue him into bankruptcy!”

“Thanks,” Kaylee hugged her friend.

Thank goodness she had Wendy.

Kaylee downloaded a real estate app, searching for rentals near Honor Medical Center. After years in dorms or at Alex’s, this would be her first time apartment hunting.

Meanwhile, Lucy had already moved her belongings into Alex’s villa.

When Alex returned from his business dinner, Lucy emerged in an elegant silk nightgown, wrapping her arms around his neck. “You’re so late. I’ve been missing you…”

This sort of behavior was exactly what Alex loved.

He did care for Kaylee, but something was always missing – she never played the sweet, flirtatious girlfriend role.

To Alex, women who acted delicate and vulnerable were the most attractive.

Without a word, he wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her.

What followed came naturally.

The next morning, after his shower, he entered his walk-in closet and immediately frowned.

When Kaylee was here, the closet had been immaculate, with clothes organized by season and color scheme.

Now several sections held women’s clothes, while his items were crammed messily into the adjacent racks.

At least there was still one outfit left that Kaylee had coordinated.

Downstairs, looking at breakfast, Alex said, “I don’t eat asparagus.”

Marianne quickly removed it.

“Kaylee knows my preferences perfectly. Call and ask her,” Alex said, glancing toward the downstairs bedroom. “Don’t tell her about Lucy living here yet.”

Lucy was already awake, leaning against the doorframe. She’d heard everything clearly, her expression turning sour.

What was this about? Surely Alex wasn’t thinking of getting back with Kaylee?

Outside, she heard Marianne asking quietly, “Mr. Morgan, is Miss Lawson really not coming back?”

After a brief silence, Alex replied, “She needs to learn her lesson. I don’t have time to deal with her drama every other day.”
