Chapter 6
But just a week later, I saw a familiar figure under a streetlight after work.
Step by step, he staggered toward me, his eyes filled with sorrow.
When he got close, he reached out, as if to hug me.
But my cold gaze stopped him.
“Rozella, I’ve been looking for you. Are you okay?”
I tried to walk past him, but he stubbornly blocked my path.
With a cold voice, I said, “If you’re not blind, you should be able to see that I’m a thousand, ten thousand times better than when I was with you.”
He opened his mouth but remained silent for a long time.
Seeing that I was about to leave, he suddenly grabbed my sleeve.
His voice was urgent. “The wedding, and everything about Catherine, was all a misunderstanding. You ran away, and I won’t blame you for that. But come back with me. Let’s clear things up, okay?”
I found it laughable. So, was this the classic case of only cherishing something once it’s lost?
But what made him think that, after everything he had done to me, I would ever go back?
Did he really think he could rely on his shamelessness?
Seeing that I couldn’t shake him off, I raised my other hand and slapped him across the face without hesitation.
“Adam, you’re disgusting”
He stood there, stunned.
For ten years. I had been a helpless orphan, deaf and alone
I had clung to him as my only pillar of support
But when I regained my hearing. I had overheard him, without a hint of guilt, whispering sweet nothings to Catherine right in front of me
In his group chat, his friends had asked. “What if that little deaf girl finds out about you and Catherine?”
And at that moment, he had been gently signing to me, telling me he loved me.
At the same time, he had sent a voice message to the group. She’s so pathetic. She has no choice but to cling to me. Even if she finds out, she’d never leave ”

“Rozella, don’t treat me like this. It breaks my heart.”
His expression was one of utter pain, but instead of sympathy. I only felt disgust.
So repulsive.
I smiled and took a step back. “Should I call Catherine for you?”
I pointed at his chest, where Catherine’s name was tattooed.
“After all, you love putting on a show. Wouldn’t it be more exciting if she were here to watch?”
His face turned pale. “You… you regained your hearing a long time ago…”
That was when I finally understood why he had dared to show up so confidently.
He had assumed I had only regained my hearing in the past few days.
Because no one could have possibly remained so calm after hearing what I had heard.
So he had been gambling on the chance that he could still deceive me.
The aroma of pasta drifted from the villa.
1 said nothing and turned to leave.
Yet Adam stubbornly remained squatting at the villa’s entrance.
For an entire week, his hair was unkempt, his chin dark with stubble, and his trench coat was wrinkled from the
endless drizzle.
He always looked at me with pitiful eyes and said, “Rozella, I will wait until you forgive me.”
I ignored him. I even went out to dinner a few times with a handsome mixed–race guy from my adoptive father’s
company.
On the tenth day, Catherine showed
up too.
Seeing Adam in such a state, she rushed over in fury and called me a “cheap woman.”
But Adam slapped her to the ground.
She then crawled to his feet, crying and begging him to return home with her.
Adam refused. So, she stayed as well
That sight after Catherine showed hum a pregnancy test report and fainted at his feet,
He looked at me in distress and said. “Rozella, this is all any fault I can spend the rest of my life making it up to you.
but Catherine is innocent

Then he carried Catherine to the hospital.
In the middle of the night, she sent me a photo of herself and Adam naked in a hospital bed.
I felt nothing. I simply forwarded the photo to Adam.
He stormed into my adoptive parents villa like a madman.
I had had enough of his pestering. I decided to talk to him one last time and asked my adoptive father to let him in.
In the study. I looked at the helpless Adam and let my gaze fall on the hickey on his neck.
Calmly, I asked, “What else do you have to say?”
“She forced me. Rozella. She’s not only pregnant but also depressed because of me. I was afraid she’d do something drastic, so 1… But I’ve already sent her back home.”
“Come back with me. Let’s get married. Once we’re married, she won’t cling to me anymore.”
“So what you’re saying is… she forced you to sleep with her?”
Adam met my eyes, opened his mouth, but no words came out.
A moment later, tears rolled uncontrollably down his face. He held his head and crouched on the floor in agony.
