100 – Desire to kill

Mar 20, 2025

Nicolas POV

At the back of the hall, crimson-colored eyes appeared, causing the wolves to scream and scatter away in fear.

“Is that a rogue?” I heard someone gasp.

“What do they want?” another asked.

“He seems very relaxed,” someone stated.

“I don’t think he wants trouble,” another said.

My gaze snapped toward Ronan. He had the same disbelief look in his eyes.

“Rogues?” Ronan whispered in disbelief when he caught my gaze. “They never impose at these functions…. They never come here….”

“There is always a first time,” Ray growled, clawing for control. “Let me have him!”

“But they have never been this bold!” I stated, ignoring Ray’s outburst.

The brown wolf pushed forward, growling. His focus is on me. He exudes a sense of purpose and determination.

Why did he come here?

What does he want?

“How dare he come here!” Ray roared. “How dare he interrupt the proceedings! It is because of wolves like him that we have to hold these fundraisers!”

Another set of growls filled the ballroom, making me shift my attention back toward the entrance. There were ten more rogue wolves, forcing themselves inside.

“What do you think they want?” Ronan asked, shifting his hands into claws. “It is odd of them to risk their lives coming here….”

“Especially in a room full of Alphas and ranks,” I completed Ronan’s thoughts.

I heard a woman scream when the brown rogue wolf suddenly jumped on a table. He growled at the guests, making them quickly move away.

“Ronan, ensure the woman’s safety before any harm occurs,” I commanded. “I don’t think this is going to end well. Something feels off…”

“That’s an understatement,” Ray growled.

Ronan quickly nodded in understanding, and his eyes glazed over. Seconds later, some of my warriors entered the hall from a different door and quietly started to move the woman outside.

The brown wolf yapped, seeking my attention. He wasn’t the biggest wolf I ever saw, yet not the smallest.

“Maybe warrior rank?” Ray stated. “I could have easily killed him. Let me have a taste of him.”

“Not yet,” I replied, stepping forward with my hands in a defensive gesture. “He seems like he came here for a reason.”

“I don’t care for what reason,” Ray said, scratching to be released. “He has no right to be here.”

I pushed Ray to the side and stepped closer to the end of the stage.

“What are you doing, Nicolas?” Ronan hissed.

“They haven’t attacked or hurt anyone yet,” I stated. “They are here for a reason. They want to talk.”

“You can’t be sure!” he hissed. “You can’t trust them, as they are rogues.”

“I didn’t say I was going to trust them!” I replied, irritated. I knew how dangerous and unpredictable they could be. “But the wolf is not even concerned about us moving the woman outside. I think he came to see… me…”

Ronan wanted to argue, but I hushed him, turning my gaze back to Red.

“Shift!” I gave the order while standing at the end of the stage.

The wolf turned and looked toward the door, and three more rogues, in different colors and sizes, quickly joined him, standing around him in a defensive motion.

A moment later, the wolf shifted, standing on top of the table.

“Hallo, Alpha Nicholas,” he said, pinning my gaze with a wicked sneer. “We meet again.”

He was an older wolf, around my father’s age. His long, gray-brown hair was long and unattended, his body thin, yet masculine. However, his light blue eyes were what held my attention.

“Do you know him?” Ronan mind-linked.

“I have never seen this wolf before,” I replied. “I didn’t recognize him at all.”

I knitted my eyebrows, thinking. Was this rogue’s identity part of an erased memory?

“With the shocked expression on your face, I guess you can’t remember me,” he stated, his smile widening. “Should I remind you of who I am?”

“Does it matter if my Alpha remembers you or not?” Ronan growled, getting closer. “You just interrupted a very important fundraising event with your filthy presence!”

I signaled to Ronan to stop, and he came to a halt.

“Perhaps not!” The rogue smirked, his eyes boring into mine. “But I do have a message for you.”

“Message?” I repeated. “What kind of message? Who sent you?”

“I see she is no longer standing beside you,” he stated, and his mutts yapped. They sounded excited by that fact.

“Who?” I asked.

Was he referring to Zara?

The rogue’s smile turned wider. His light blue orbs were glittering with secrets and excitement.

“The daughter of the moon,” he said lowly as he lifted his chin.

“Leave Luna Zara out of this!” Ronan roared. His eyes glowed with anger. I was familiar with that look. Rage blinded his wolf, and he was fighting for control. If I don’t intervene immediately, chaos will erupt. Anyone and everyone could suffer during Ronan’s rampage.

“Back off, Ronan,” I calmly warned. “Get yourself and your beast’s temper under control….”

Ronan hissed, and my gaze snapped at him.

“That’s an order,” I said.

I took a deep breath, keeping my pose. Ray’s rage has fueled my own anger.

“Calm the f*ck down!” I growled at him. “I need to know the reason for this visit!”

“I can’t,” the rogue stated, shaking his head, smiling. “I am here because of her.”

“Did she send you to me?” I asked.

He shakes his head.

“No, but he did,” the rogue stated.

Confusion crossed my eyes, making him chuckle.

“He is marking her as his Luna under the next full moon…. We can’t wait. It’s going to be a grand festival!”

“That will be the day!” Ray growled, forcefully grabbing control and trying to shift.

However, nothing happened. There was not even a single crack in the air.

“What the f*ck!” Ray hissed, startled. “Why can’t we shift? Why do I feel so weak? So powerless, as if all of me were being taken?”

My startled expression must have ticked off the rogue. He threw his head back and laughed.

“Alpha,” he said between tears of laughter. “I tried to warn you. She is already under his hold! Unknowingly to her, she is feeding him with your magic.”

“The bond…” I gasped.

“Very well, Alpha,” he said. “You are right. He is using your mate bond to suck all the magic from you. In a few hours you will barely be human; that’s if you’re not dead before that…”

“Why are you telling me this?” I asked.

The rogue turned toward his friends.

“Because,” he said, a sinister smile spreading over his cracked and dry lips. “That is the reason I am here. I am going to kill you…”

The next moment, more rogues made their presence known, and they popped their heads in at every possible corner.

I could smell their excitement. I could sense their intense desire to have me dead.

Will I be able to survive and defeat the rogues? Or will it all be in vain?
