Nicolas POV

“And who exactly are you?” Terra asked, her gaze sweeping over Levi, drinking him in.

“My name is not important, sweetheart,” Levi stated, giving her a cheeky smile. “I am just here because I care deeply for someone…” and he winked.

Terra’s eyes lit up, and she grabbed Levi’s hands and pulled him closer to her.

Levi shifted uncomfortably but kept his composure.

“Finally, someone I can talk to who would understand me!” Terra chirped happily, giving Ronan a disgusted look.

Ronan responded by rolling his eyes, causing me to erupt into laughter. The two guards at the door jumped out of fright at the sound of my laughter.

“Sorry,” I waved them off. “This is going to be even better than I anticipated it would be.”

Levi kept his cool, and he smiled flirtatiously at Terra, and then when he knew she couldn’t resist his charm, he lifted his chin and started asking random questions.

Terra quickly fell into his trap and simply answered every question he threw at her.

“She must be a very good liar,” I muttered to myself. “Not once were there any discrepancies in what she told Ronan earlier.”

“Or a bloody good actor,” Ronan added as he entered the observation room to join me. Ronan decided that it was better to stand aside and give Levi the opportunity to make Terra feel at home. He soon got bored and left the interrogation room.

Levi has been busy for over an hour, asking questions and giving Terra adequate time to answer.

Terra suddenly sat back with a cocky smile on her red-painted lips, her gaze moving over Levi.

“I have answered enough of your questions,” Terra said. “I would like you to answer one of mine before we continue…”

“She’s got some balls,” Ronan remarked.

I nodded in response.

Levi’s gaze turned toward the window, and some unknown emotion flashed through his eyes, making me shiver in my seat.

“He seems pissed,” I said, shifting in my seat.

“Or he is searching for permission from…” Ronan replied, narrowing his eyes.

“No,” I cut him off. “There is something different about Levi…. Something has changed….”

Levi abruptly turned his gaze back toward Terra; the same smile followed on his lips.

“I have no objection,” he said. “You can ask your question….”

Ronan jumped to his feet, and before Terra could say anything, he burst into the interrogation room.

Levi kept his composure calm, as if he expected Ronan to suddenly enter. He slowly rose to his feet, gave Ronan a quick nod of the head and left the room.

“What the f*ck, Ronan!” Terra yelled at him. “It was my turn to ask a question! We agreed to it!”

“Firstly, have some respect. It is Beta Ronan to you. I prefer you call me by my title,” Ronan snapped. “Secondly, we ask the questions, not you!”

“I don’t care what you say!” She hissed. “I have an agreement with him!”

“An agreement?” he taunted. “With who exactly?”

“That…handsome wolf…” Terra said, her face turning red.

Ronan crossed his arms around his chest and lifted an eyebrow.

“What wolf?” he asked, looking around. “I don’t see anyone…”

“The one who just left the room—” Terra yelled.

“There was no one in here except you,” he said, keeping his voice serious. “Terra, are you losing your mind?”

The observation room’s door opened, and Levi entered with a smile.

“Did it work?” he asked, his gaze shifting toward the window.

“I am not sure what you two planned,” I said. “But whatever it is, it is pissing Terra off.”

“Good,” he said, taking a seat on the bench. “She is aware of Zara’s exact location.”

“How…?” I asked, finding Levi’s gaze.

“When Terra grabbed my hands, I got some kind of vision from her,” he said. “I know for certain Zara is still alive and well…”

Terra’s screeching voice grabbed my attention as she lashed out at Ronan.

“I have nothing to say to you!” She sneered. “I will only speak to Alpha Nicholas!”

My gaze shifted toward Levi, and a cold sinister smile followed on his lips.

“I guess it’s your turn, Alpha,” he said, his smile growing wider.

“And here I was just starting to enjoy the show,” I said, and headed toward the door.

I came to a stop at the interrogation door, the two guards posted outside dropping their gazes. They seemed intimidated by my new appearance.

I wonder how Terra would react? Will my new appearance scare her? Will it intimidate her?

My smile grew as I pulled the door handle down. I pushed the door open. Ronan’s back was toward the door. He stopped talking, and his gaze slowly shifted toward me. He nodded and stepped away.

Terra gasped, her eyes wide in horror.

“Get that thing out of here!” She yelled in terror.

“Why?” Ronan asked innocently. “You requested a meeting with our Alpha.”

My mind raced as I stepped forward, closing the gap to the interrogation table.

I lay forward, my eyes staring into Terra’s. I could see my horrific beast’s reflection in her eyes. I could see the beast I had become.

Terra whimpered, dropping her gaze to her shaking hands. She was petrified of me.

I took a seat, watching her as my thoughts shifted back to earlier, when I learned I was stuck between human and beast.

***Flashback

“Alpha, can you hear me?” Claire gently shook my arm to get my attention. Her voice resonated deeply in my mind. Everything sounded louder, more clear—too intense!

I squeezed my eyes slightly and gently shook my head. I was trying to get rid of the ringing in my ears.

“What happened?” I groaned, my voice huskier than normal. I shift my weight, trying to push myself off the bed and onto my feet.

“Uhm…,” Claire gently grabbed my arm. I was dangerously swaying like a drunk on my feet.

“Careful, Alpha….” she said. Her concern was evident in her voice.

I lifted my head and shifted my gaze toward Claire. She was staring at me in worry.

“What’s going on?” I asked. “Did it work? Did you break Ray free?”

“Not exactly the way everyone hoped for,” Levi stated.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I growled.

I knitted my eyebrows together as Ronan handed me a mirror. He anxiously stepped back.

Why would Ronan hand me a mirror?

Did I grow two heads?

I lifted the mirror and gasped as I caught a glimpse of my reflection. My body, still human, was covered in black and silver fur.

“O-o-oh, shit!” I muttered, shocked. “How the hell did this happen?”

“I… I…”

I shifted to Celia, who was standing against the bare wall, her horror-filled eyes fixed on me.

“Can you explain this?” I asked, trying not to frighten her. She seems to be in shock.

“I don’t know,” she muttered. “I don’t know why that happened….”

“Can you hear your wolf, Alpha?” Claire asked, trying to shift my attention.

I shook my head.

“I can’t hear him, but I do feel him….” I replied. Ray was still there somewhere.

“That is quite interesting,” Ronan muttered, getting closer as he observed me.

“What is?” I asked, annoyance filling my veins. I didn’t like that everyone was staring at me.

***End of Flashback***

“Do you like what you see?” The words slipped from my lips. “You did this to me. You and all your friends.”

“No. No. No!” She stuttered as tears rolled down her pretty face. “I… I… I have nothing to do with that!”

“Liar!” I roared, shaking the window on the wall. “I’ll give you one last chance to tell me everything you know before I slit that perfect, slender throat of yours….”
