I shook my head. “I’m not leaving.”
Chris smiled. “Mr. Caldwell is happy that you’ve returned.”

Chapter 5
My father, who had flown overnight from Holnia to Narla, worried that I was being wronged. He had tried to convince me with all his might, saying, “Nathan never thinks things through.
“Back then, he chose to collaborate with that old man from the Price family instead of accepting your help. He likes to claim he doesn’t want to rely on you, but if he got the Price family’s investment, isn’t that still relying on them?
“Lois, just let go of Nathan. He’s not the one for you.”
He had tried to take me back to Holnia, but I refused. I cried and fought to stay in Narla.
I had told him through tears, “I love Nathan. I don’t want to divorce. Why should I sacrifice myself for his favor? Even if he drives me to the brink of death, I will never leave. I’m not going anywhere.”
Eventually, my father, overwhelmed by my refusal, had a heart attack and was rushed to the ICU. The doctors gave him multiple notices that his condition was critical.
In just one night, the stress had aged my mother visibly.
When my father recovered, he said nothing, but I knew he was disappointed in me.
Right before my mother passed, she still tried to convince me. “Your father never interfered with any of your decisions,” she said. “But Nathan is not a good man.”
At the time, I couldn’t hear any of it. I stubbornly kept running headfirst into a wall.
It took my life to finally realize–Nathan had never truly valued me.
“Are they all okay?” I asked Chris.
He nodded. “The company is doing well. Mr. and Mrs. Caldwell are both healthy.”
