Steve was such a perceptive and considerate person that he could tell Nash wanted to talk to me and voluntarily gave us some space.
“So, how have you been all these years?” Nash asked.
I raised an eyebrow. “As you can see, I’ve been doing pretty well.”
Nash nodded and gestured toward Steve. “Mr. Ford seems like a good match for you.”
I didn’t respond, and we didn’t have much to say to each other.
“Do you still paint?” I suddenly asked.
Nash looked up in surprise, then smiled bitterly. “Occasionally, but you know, my hand was injured. I can’t possibly recover to how I was at 18.”
“What about Yvonne? Your children should be in school by now.”
Nash remained silent for a while before saying, “I got a divorce from her.”
As if suddenly finding a confidant, Nash started talking to me about his experiences over the years. He said that he didn’t go to college back then. After he spent all his money, life with Yvonne became difficult. Yvonne knew that his family was well off and always pressured him to ask for money, but he had already had a falling out with his parents and couldn’t bring himself to go back and ask for money. However, Yvonne had become accustomed to a lavish lifestyle. She wanted the best hospital care, postpartum recovery treatments, and various other expensive expenses when she gave birth. Having a child was not a small expense, and it drained his resources. After their child was born, Yvonne insisted on hiring a postpartum nurse, but his income from part–time jobs and training courses couldn’t meet these expenses. Furthermore, Yvonne’s parents had already severed ties with her.
During that time, Nash had to take care of their child and Yvonne while also supporting the family. He thought about asking his parents for help, but he couldn’t bring himself to do It. He had lost all his pride.
When his parents learned about his situation and saw how he was struggling, they decided to visit him and offered to take the child back home as long as he agreed to break up with Yvonne. They also promised to send him abroad for further studies, and afterward, he could join their family business. However, at that time, Nash refused. He didn’t want to give up his child or return to his parents everything that had happened.

He asked her where the child was. She refused to answer and insisted that he should go home and see for himself. In the midst of their argument, she pushed him, and a car ran over his ankle. Without enough money for proper medical treatment, his leg took a long time to heal. During that time, he lived a very difficult life.
