CHAPTER 31
MELANE
“DIMITRE
“I’m half a block away.”
“Sebastian“:
“Driving around, baby girl, like you said.”
“Almost right behind you.”
“Katnissa?”
“Fuck off.”
I sighed and tried again “Katnissa?”
“Tm in position, so fuck of
were all Today was the day of the bank heist. Each of us had been hooked with discreet two–way communication and we dressed business casual. I had on a black pantsuit, white shirt, and black flats. I would’ve preferred heels in case I needed at quick weapon, but oh well.
I was tired. The day had barely started, but I was tired. Yesterday in the hotel I’d tried to get the team together so everyone could memorize their roles and positions and actions in the event that plan B was necessary, but I’d been brushed off with a “Yeah yeah we’ve got it so I’d spent the day going over everyone’s part so if they needed help I could do something. Nobody was allowed to fuck this up for me. Sebastian had gotten us here in record time, just a few minutes before the rush hour actually started. Now the streets were clogged with vehicles full of people going to or coming from work. Horns blared as the traffic moved along at a snail’s pace and I caught more than one irritated expression from people’s faces
as I passed. Excellent.
As I stepped in front of the imposing front of the bank 1 spotted Dimitri, dressed in a distinguished gentleman’s suit and coat, out of the corner of my eye walking towards me.
He saw me and slowed down, taking out a cell phone and pretending to have a conversation, stalling for a few minutes so we didn’t enter at the same time.
I took a deep breath and walked to stand in front of the doors. They slid open for me and I stepped into the cool air and
where to go quiet chatter of the bank. I stood there for a moment like I was not quite sure w
The doors opened behind me and Mia walked past, making sure to bump into me. I stumbled and shot an irritated look at her as the sauntered over to the area where they kept the deposit slips.
As expected the single security guard approached me with a polite smile.
“Miss Are you in need of assistance?”
“Oh.” I replied, appearing just the right amount of flustered and embarrassed as I patted my dark, wavy hair.
“I think I’ve got it, thanks” was my response.
Having made sure I was seen by someone who’d describe me to anyone as a dark–haired woman with a slight French accent who appeared somewhat out of place, 1 zeroed in on
my target and walked to the man, sashaying just a bit so I caught his attention long before I reached him.
He noticed me and, true to the little information we’d gotten on him which said he was a skirt chaser, quickly dispatched
the customer he was attending to and smiled at me, stroking his disgusting pointy beard.
“A fine monuing to you, and me as well.” he said, eyes focused on my chest region. This was going to be easier than I
thought
“Um_hi. F’in here to inquire about a safe deposit box?” I said in a slightly unsure tone.
“And what’s a ravishing French lady like you doing opening a Swiss deposit box? Never mind that, it’s not my business after

all. It’s going to cost you quite a bit, nothing you can’t handle I’m sure, but I can give you a nice discount, just for being so pretty” he kept talking.
I almost rolled my eyes: the man talked a lot, like he had limited time to get all his words out.
“I presume you already have an account with us here, yes? Although I don’t think I’ve seen you here before. I would remember. You’ll need to open an account first.” He continued.
Inoted Dimitri and Katnissa get into place so I took control of the situation
“Actually” interrupted, giving him a shy smile.
“Is it okay if I see the boxes and sizes available? I want to make sure they’re suitable before I commit.”
I sensed the first flicker of hesitation from him and I leaned forward a little giving him the tiniest flash of cleavage
“I just want to be assured that they are as safe as possible. Can you please do me this favor? I would be so grateful” I loaded
I the last part with meaning and glanced at him from under my lashes.
Just when I thought I would have to reveal the dagger strapped inside my sleeve, he glanced around furtively and stepped back from his station.
“Follow me.”
1 upped the wattage of my smile and walked around the counter. On my way, I made eye contact with Mia and gave her an imperceptible nod. The man beckoned me forward and we walked into an entryway off the main floor of the bank. He swiped his key card to open the door and I could only hope Mia caught the door before it closed else I’d have to find an alternative.
We took an elevator for what felt like an eternity- what with the man inching closer to me with every passing minute in a suggestive way- then finally entered the vault. He swiped the keycard again then stepped back, gesturing for me to enter
first.
“The boxes, my lady,” he said in a way that he probably thought was charming
Having ascertained we were in the right place, I stepped towards him with a smile he reciprocated. The smile, however, died a quick death when he felt the tip of my dagger against his back.
“Hello, David. Jorge sends his greetings” I said calmly, watching as the blood drained from his face.
“L.I haven’t told anybody anything” David stammered.
“Well you’re about to tell me plenty, What’s the number for his box? And before you lie, I should remind you that you have a wife and children“.
I’ve always found that threats delivered in a smooth and calm tone seemed to yield more results. It held true when he shuffled over to stand in front of a box marked 561 and
stammered again.
“I don’t have the keys here. Let me go up and grab them.” “That won’t be necessary. You’re such a good boy, David“, I said then slammed his head into the box and he crumpled to the floor in an unconscious heap.
I fished the keycard from his pocket and then went back up to where Mia was waiting by the first door. I swiped her in and she breezed past me with a “Took you long enough”
We went back to the vault and Mia slipped out a set of tools, then got to work on the safe deposit box while I glanced at the cameras in the corners and counted down the given ten minutes in my head:
“Can’t you go any faster?” I prodded Mia and she gave me a death glare.
I was still looking at the cameras when I noticed something off about them. The red dot of light which usually showed when they were active wasn’t there. I was about to comment about it to Mia when a loud scraping sound started above me.
I looked up to see the air vent open up and two men wearing masks dropped down from it.
After removing the masks they finally noticed they weren’t alone and jerked back, looking just as surprised to see us as we
were.
