CHAPTER 46
MELANIE
THE LIGHT SHINING DIRECTLY INTO MY EYES WAS WHAT BROUGHT ME AROUND.
I didn’t want to leave the darkness. The darkness was safe and comfy and peaceful. In there, I didn’t have to confront what I was sure wasn’t a pleasant reality.
Sadly, I blinked and opened my eyes, squinting. The light receded a bit and I tried to take stock of what I remembered and where I was. I tried to move but I found myself bound with thick industrial rope to a seat, hands and feet. Great.
The day I decide to dress fancy and go out with no knives, I get kidnapped. What were the odds? I gasped as I remembered Blaine was with me and looked around for him.
“Looking for your boyfriend?” a voice beyond the light sneered. “Where is he?” I rasped, suddenly realizing how thirsty I
was.
“What have you done with him?” I asked again.
When the voice only laughed, fear and worry crawled up my throat. Something had happened to Blaine. I fought against my restraints as I yelled.
“I said, where the fuck is Blaine?” the light was redirected upwards, taking the glare off my face so I could see better.
There was a figure standing in front of me with a wolf mask on “You don’t need to yell. He’s fine.”
I narrowed my eyes “I don’t believe you” I said, which was funny for some reason because he started to laugh again.
“Aren’t you a distrustful one? How about this, you have my word that no harm has come to Blaine Daniels” he replied. So he knew our names, which meant this was planned with us as the targets.
“Your word doesn’t mean shit to me. I don’t even know who the fuck you are” I seethed.
“You’re right, of course. Allow me to introduce myself. They call me El Lobo, and you should too” he said, sounding pompous.
I tilted my head, studying the figure in front of me.
If I stood up, I’d have about four inches on him.
“That explains the stupid mask. Big name for a little guy. El Lobo? More like El Cachorro de Lobo” I snickered.
Probably not wise to mock my newest captor, especially when I still wasn’t sure if Blaine was okay, but people who thought themselves more than they actually were always made me laugh. He’d probably been the one to organize our capture though, so I could give him credit for that.
When he spoke again, he didn’t sound so smug “I thought he was the funny one.”
Done with the fun and games, I asked again “Where is Blaine?”
“He is alive and well, stop asking me. I have no intention of harming the both of you. When I get what I want from Jordan Alonso, you’ll be free to go” he said, irritated.
I rolled my eyes when I heard the name. Of course this was about him. Here I was, yet again paying for the crimes of someone who didn’t even pay me. When I got out of this, he and I were going to have a very long conversation.
Still, if I’d learned anything in the past two months, it was that Jordan wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
“I hope you know you’re playing with fire. He will grind your bones into dust and put it in a cute little jar on his desk as a memento” I said drily.
The man spread his hands out and I noticed the numerous rings on his fingers.
“That’s where the both of you come in! You’re my protection and insurance. You are important to him, so there’s no doubt he will do what I ask him to.”
Curious, I lifted a brow “Just what exactly is it that you want?”
He adjusted his stupid mask, then the jacket of his pinstriped suit “I want him to sign 50% of all his operations over to me. Then when he comes here to retrieve you, I am going to kill him” he said in a hard voice.

CHAPTER 46
It was my turn to laugh, really hard and really long.
“So you mean to tell me,” I said in between my laughter “that you actually think he will give you a whopping 50% of his empire, in exchange for… me?” I was genuinely tickled.
“Trust me, you’d be better off kidnapping a pair of his shoes if you’re looking to profit. As it is, I’m useless to you” I said, feeling the laughter tears run down my face.
“You’re his personal assistant, are you not? You know a lot of his business dealings. He will trade for that” the man said matter–of–factly.
I just shook my head “Man, you’ve got it all twisted. This is just a waste of both our times” I sighed. I should be stuffing my face with dessert now, or snuggled up in my comfy bed.
He came closer to me and brought out a stack of pictures, holding them up to me one by one. They were photos of me, of Jordan, of Jordan and me, Jordan and Blaine and the three of us about to enter the grocery store the day I’d made pizza.
There were photos of us eating burgers after we’d been held hostage at his meeting, Blaine and I exiting the car at the. entrance of the headquarters and even photos of tonight,
Blaine and I were in the car, and entering and exiting the restaurant,
“So you know how to stalk and take a bunch of photos. Nobody prints those out these days, but good for you” I said.
“Would you still say you aren’t important to him? This right here is evidence to the contrary” the man insisted and I sighed, If he had actually been thorough with his research, he would have known that my presence in Jordan’s life was temporary and contractual.
I didn’t even know as much about his operations as a personal assistant should, and I didn’t want to know.
Well, if El Cachorro decided he wanted to be obstinate, who was I to dissuade him?
“Just so you know, he isn’t going to take your deal,” I said, leaning back into my seat.
He shrugged “Then the both of you die,” he said. My heart skipped a beat at the thought of anything happening to Blaine, but I wasn’t too concerned about myself. I always got out of all the sticky situations I’ve found myself in, but even if I didn’t I preferred to die in the service of Jordan Alonso than Cadell.
My only regret would be that I didn’t get to deal with the bastard. And being his best friend, I knew Blaine would die before he gave Jordan up.
As El Cachorro hadn’t been thorough with the research, he also didn’t know that I was no regular personal assistant. It was
A merely a façade for a woman who was trained in a plethora of skills.
He probably thought he was just capturing some normal dainty female. I pitied him somewhat; he had no idea he was already a dead man for touching Blaine alone. I smiled at him the way a barracuda would at its next meal “Bring it on.”
