Chapter 7
The company’s big project had finally closed, and we were celebrating with a formal banquet.
Lily was there too.
For once, she wasn’t being passive–aggressive. Instead, she was all smiles, acting surprisingly friendly.
She turned to Jason, holding up a glass of champagne.
“Jo, I was so immature before. Let’s put the past behind us. From now on, we’re sisters.”
Jason blinked, caught off guard, but still took the glass.
“Lily, if that’s how you feel, then I won’t hold anything against you either. We’re family now.”
He smiled and drank.
Lily, still sipping her own drink, watched him intently as he swallowed, something unreadable flickering in her eyes.
Then-
“Oh!”
Someone stumbled into her from behind, and red wine splashed
“Jo–sorry! I didn’t mean to!”
“It’s fine,” Jason said, waving them off.
Jason’s
But someone else chimed in.
“Damn, that’s not a good look. You can’t walk around like that–what’ll the clients
Jason frowned. They were right. He still had networking to do.
Lily’s eyes glinted with something calculating before she flashed an easy smile.

“Oh, don’t worry! This hotel belongs to my family, and I have a suite upstairs with
extra dresses.”
She turned to Jason, her tone sweetly casual.
“If you don’t mind, I can take you up to change.”
Jason didn’t even hesitate.
“That’d be great, thanks.”
I watched them disappear up the stairs.
Something felt off.
Without a second thought, I followed.
Lily led Jason into the room, but just a few minutes later, she walked right back out.
Instead of returning to the party, she slipped into the stairwell and pulled out her phone.

7.34 AM DO
That was all the confirmation I needed.
I went to the front desk and requested a spare key to the suite.
By the time I opened the door, Jason was still in the bathroom, changing.
I barely had time to slip inside when the door clicked open again.
Lily was back.
I quickly ducked into the closet.
Jason stepped out of the bathroom, loosening his collar with a dazed expression.
“Lily… is it just me, or is it really hot in here?”
Lily smirked, “Jo, drop the act. It’s just the two of us now.
“You’ll finally show everyone what kind of woman you really are.
“And after tonight, Jason will see it too.”
Jason’s foggy gaze sharpened.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
Lily stepped closer, her innocent mask finally slipping.
“Oh, nothing.” She tilted her head, smiling as she whispered, “I just added a little something to your drink.”
Jason staggered, realization crashing down.
His childhood best friend. The girl he thought was kind, gentle, incapable of harm.
She had drugged him.
“Why?” His voice was hoarse. “Why would you do this?”
Lily let out a soft laugh, looking down at him like he was something pathetic.
“Because I hate you.”
Jason’s dazed, unfocused eyes snapped to hers, stunned.
“I’ve hated you since the moment I first saw you.
“Jason belongs to me–not some low–class, gold–digging whore like you.”
Her voice turned mocking.
“I spent all this time setting you up, making him hate you. And it was working.”
Her expression twisted with resentment.
“But then he started acting differently. Pulling away from me. Treating you better. How could I ever let that happen?”
Jason’s breathing was ragged, his pupils blown wide as his body swayed unsteadily.
“Lily… You’re insane.”
“Shut up.”
She slapped him across the face.
His already unstable body collapsed onto the bed.

Lily crouched beside him, her smile growing eerily soft.
“Don’t worry.”
She patted his cheek.
“By the time Jason sees what kind of woman you really are, he’ll have no choice but to stay with me.
“So sit tight, sweetheart–this is gonna be fun.”
She chuckled as she walked out, locking the door behind her.
As soon as she was gone, I rushed out of the closet.
Jason was barely conscious, his skin flushed, sweat beading on his forehead.
I quickly grabbed the water pitcher and forced him to drink.
His body shook with the effort, but slowly, his breathing began to steady. We had no time.
I wrapped his arm around my shoulders and dragged him out the back exit, leading him into a room I had already booked earlier–just in case.
His fever wasn’t breaking.
With no other choice, I filled the bathtub with cold water and lowered him in.
P
Jason groaned, his body fighting against the drug, but eventually, the shivers began to subside.
My phone buzzed. It was Lily.
Lily: [Jason, where are you? Come to my suite. Jo’s
I glanced at Jason.
His breathing was finally even.
I exhaled slowly before replying: [On my way.]
