Just then, Noah ran in from the yard and hugged Lila.
“Aunt Lila, you’re the best! How did you know carrot cake is my favorite?”
“I know everything about you!” she said, kissing his cheek.
Over the years, Lila has always been eager to “help,” especially taking care of Noah, attending his birthday parties, and even his parent-teacher meetings.
She claimed it was to help me, but I knew what she was really after.
As Lila and Noah embraced tightly, the doorbell rang. I opened it to find Noah’s teacher, Chris, holding a gift box and a bouquet of lavender.
“The flowers are for you, and the gift is for Noah,” Chris said with a warm smile.
“Oh…Thank you so much.” I replied.
I gave the gift to Noah and placed the lavender in a vase in the living room. Lavender is my scent.
“Veya, you look beautiful today,” Chris said as I turned back to him.
“Did you think about my offer from the last time?”
