Chapter 5
She no longer looked as obedient as she did in front of Xavier. Chin held high, her gaze swept over the suitcase beside me. A faint smirk played on her lips as she raised an eyebrow.
“Broke up, huh?”
As she had just won a game, Kimberly let out a triumphant laugh.
With a cigarette between her fingers, she flicked the ash in my direction on purpose before laughing again.
“Camille, you really look like a stray dog right now. How pathetic.
“I told you to break up with Xavier ages ago, but you wouldn’t listen. And now, look where you are.”
She shook her head in mock pity. “Lost your shares too. Do you even realize what you just threw away?”
Her taunting was nothing new.
Back when she first joined the company, she would provoke me in private, urging me to leave Xavier. I knew exactly what kind of person she was, but she was good at playing innocent. Every time she stirred up trouble, she’d turn around and act pitiful in front of Xavier.
And back then, I was too impulsive, too straightforward. Every time I fought back, Xavier would misunderstand me.
Eventually, as my disappointment grew, she found new ways to get under my skin.
But looking at Kimberly now, I didn’t feel anger anymore. Just amusement.
I couldn’t believe I had let myself be dragged into her childish games for so long.
I really had been blinded by emotion.
“Xavier really does care about me, you know,” she went on smugly. “I bet you didn’t know he was the one who helped me buy those shares.”
She was still talking, still gloating.
I stepped forward, stopping right in front of her.

I stepped forward, stopping right in front of her.
“What? You think you can lay a hand on me?”
Kimberly arched a brow, assuming, like always, that I wouldn’t dare to do anything because of Xavier.
She deliberately exhaled a puff of smoke into my face.
I didn’t say a word.
Instead, I reached out and snatched the half–burned cigarette from her fingers. Before she could react, I grabbed her chin and shoved it into
her mouth.

“Agh!”
She spat it out instantly, but not before the heat scorched her tongue. Her shriek pierced the air.
“Camille, are you insane?!”
She cursed at me, eyes blazing with fury. She lifted a hand, about to yank my hair, but then she froze.
In the next second, she retracted her hand as if she had seen something terrifying. Her expression twisted, and she quickly turned on her heel, rushing toward Xavier.
“Xavier, Camille just shoved a burning cigarette into my mouth! My tongue’s burned! It hurts so bad…
She stuck out her tongue dramatically, just like she always did, playing the victim.
Every single time, Xavier would side with her. He would snap at me, demand that I apologize, make me swallow my anger.
I figured this time would be no different.
I had no interest in hearing the same old routine, so I turned around, ready to leave.
But then, Xavier didn’t react the way he usually did.
His voice was hoarse when he spoke, ignoring Kimberly completely.
“Camille, where are you going? I’ll drive you.”
