Chapter 6
His rare gentleness, laced with something close to pleading, caught me off guard.
Kimberly was stunned for a moment, too. Then, as if she couldn’t believe her ears, she repeated what she had just said, her voice filled with disbelief. “Xavier, she hurt me.”
“Kimberly.”
Xavier finally looked at her, pulled out his phone, and transferred some money to her. His tone, which had been different just moments ago, turned distant and cold.
“Go to the hospital by yourself. I don’t have time to deal with this right now.”
Kimberly froze on the spot.
She didn’t leave, and she didn’t even take the money. Instead, she reached for Xavier’s wrist, gently shaking it as she pouted in grievance.
This move had always been her trump card. It worked on Xavier every single time.
But this time, Xavier didn’t even hesitate. He pulled his hand away from hers.
6:56 AM
Kimberly lost her balance and fell to the ground. Tears welled up in her eyes, and panic spread across her face.
“Xavier, why are you treating me like this? Just last night, we…”
“Shut up, Kimberly,” Xavier interrupted.
“I saw it with my own eyes. You provoked Camille first.
“Leave. Now. Or disappear from my life forever.”
It was clear that Xavier was truly angry.
Kimberly didn’t dare to say another word. She bit her lip, then turned and ran off, still looking pitiful.
Xavier watched her disappear before finally turning back to me. His voice carried a rare hint of regret. “Camille, I’m sorry. I didn’t know she…”
“Cut the act,” I cut him off before he could finish. My voice was calm and indifferent.
“You knew. You always knew how she provoked me. You always knew how unfairly I was treated.”
But he had never cared. He had played along, treating Kimberly’s lies and taunts as nothing more than a harmless joke. The only reason things were different now was because I had broken up with him. If we were still together, he would still be standing by Kimberly’s side.
Xavier opened his mouth as if to explain but only managed two syllables before falling silent.
I wasn’t wrong.
He had been wavering between the two women who loved him, unwilling to let go of either one.
“Don’t bother seeing me out. Just focus on what you still have.
“Take it as my last piece of advice after ten years together.”
