Chapter 20
After my conversation with Mrs. Lewis, my spirit just went down. Yes, Richard and I still went out for dinner, but I wasn’t just having it. my mind was on my son. What have I really done? Neglecting him all these years, I mean, I was neglected by Logan too. I stayed years without much of his attention, and I knew how that felt, so why didn’t I think of that? He was my son after all. Renea was good to him. but she couldn’t provide the motherly support that he truly needed
Richard noticed my mood and asked if it was about Florida; he even suggested we postpone for next month if it was to make me feel better, but I refused. No, I was at fault; preventing Richard from fulfilling his father’s wish would be selfish of me.
I faked a smile and forced myself through the dinner. I planned it, so I knew everything that was to happen, including the employees singing for us like it was our birthday. Well, my husband owned it, so we had that privilege.
I also hired Serenaders who performed a romantic song for us. Richard forced me to dance, and since I was acting like everything was fine, I stood up and moved my body even when I wasn’t feeling it. What’s worse was after the dancing, it was still too early to leave as we had other things to do. I honestly regretted planning all this because now it was just like a waste.
Finally, after everything, we were headed home. I was still in my thoughts, my soul disturbed, so I was silent all the way while Richard seemed so excited as he kept thanking me for the night.

“I hope you’re not so tired because our night has just begun,” he said as we walked in. I removed my shoes and headed up responding. When I reached our bedroom, I threw myself on the bed without changing I forced myself to sleep, and when Richard came. I faked a snore he made advances on me, but I turned him down, saying I was tired.
Richard sounded disappointed but had no choice as he gave up; he then offered to help me undress, and I let him do that. Of course, he tried his way, but I again turned him down. Completely giving up, he helped me out of my clothes and said he was going to take a shower. I honestly didn’t care as I just wanted to sleep, so I focused on that, and luckily I fell asleep, as when I opened my eyes, it was the next morning.
Richard was still here, working on his computer.
-Tickets are booked, we found an apartment–you’ll love it, and a contract is signed, and Andreas has been accepted as a visiting student to the school you chose. He said, making me nod my head before I told him I would start with the packing, “I have to go to the office for a few minutes, I will also pass by Andreas school to pick up his recommendation letter.” he said, and that’s when I realized he was already dressed in his official clothes.
He then came to me. I was still seated on the bed; he kissed my forehead, and somehow I felt bad for last night, so I asked him to stay so I could make up for last night, but he said he had a meeting.
“When you pack, please pack lots of my blue striped ties. I heard America loves those.” He said, which made me nod my head, “I’m going with Andreas; he has to say goodbye to his friends.”
“He has friends?” I only asked because of the way he rarely spoke; how could one make friends like that?
“Of course,
his teacher also wanted to say goodbye.” He answered, making me once again nod my head. “I will call Florence and tell her you won’t be there for a while; she will have to work on her own for now.” He said, and I thanked him because I knew with Richard she wouldn’t dare judge or argue, she would just agree because if I told her myself, she would definitely try to change my mind. It happened on several occasions when Richard planned a vacation or weekend getaway for us.
I watched Richard leave before I stood up and headed straight to the bathroom.
After an hour of putting myself together, I went down just to let Mrs. Lewis know what we would be having for lunch and also to have a snack, as I didn’t have the time for a full breakfast. Done with that, I came up and started parking our things. When I was done packing. I went to Andreas‘ room and made sure his suitcase was packed, and when that was done, I went downstairs and started scrolling on my phone until my family arrived.
The day went by fast, and before we knew it, we were headed for bed and getting up, getting ready for the flight.
I didn’t even get to feel the hours on the plane as time went by so fast that now we were already in Florida, in our apartment, Richard was ordering us dinner while I helped Andreas get into his pajamas
The apartment was really small compared to my home back in London, which I had gotten used to. Three bedrooms with a garage and a balcony. There was also a guest bathroom downstairs on the left side of the living space–a shoe rack in between–but it still felt small. “Babe, the restaurants are closed; pizza will have to do for now,” Richard said, I didn’t like eating junk food. When I was with Logan, I didn’t really watch my weight, and he always made fun of me for that, how I ate like a pig and how I was an obese woman, so I tried to change all that, which worked as my body was now just like for a model–not skinny, as I like having curves but just the right weight.

“It’s fine, I guess carbs for a night never hurt anybody,” I said, making him nod before telling me having carbs is not a crime. Richard placed the call while Andreas and I now headed to the kitchen to prepare the plates.
I still couldn’t believe I was back i
k in Florida. Years ago, when I left, I swore not to ever come back because of Andreas, I didn’t want Logan to ever have a reason to speak to me, but who knew it would be like this? Well, as long as I don’t bump into him, I will be fine, right? After all, three months are not that long-
We are just here for business; once that is sorted, we will go back to our lives in London–our happy, peaceful life.
“Momuny. someone is at.. at the door,” Andreas said, which made me wash my hands, and after drying them, I walked to the door, as I knew it was the delivery guy. Richard was upstairs; he said he had to make an important call “Andreas, get Daddy’s wallet; pizza is here”” I called my son as Richard was the one with accepted currency.
I then opened the door but froze when I saw the person at the door, the person didn’t seem to expect to see me as their jaw dropped.
It was Logan, my ex–husband, well, he didn’t have the pizza, so what the hell was he doing here?!
