Chapter 26
Poppy was still staring at Andreas, I’m sure she couldn’t take their resemblance.
“Andreas, get in the car.” I said, but he didn’t move. Richard seemed too shocked too, as he didn’t say a word, “Andreas!” I raised my voice, which made him run to the car, and Richard followed. Now, I was being harsh, but that was the only way I could protect him.
Poppy snapped out of it as she now cleared her voice and said there was no DNA needed
“He’s four, right?” She asked, making me shake my head, “You will have to speak to me, Patricia; you don’t want him to know, do you?”
“What do you want, Poppy? Why did you follow me?”
“Well, I was going to ask about Logan’s son.”
“What?”
“Logan is my husband’s friend, and don’t forget the reason I helped you; I want to be in his life.”
“Are you.” I stopped myself as I almost called her crazy, “Why?”
“Because for some weird reason, Michael and I can’t have children, so—”
“You want my son in your life.
“Yes, you’re back, right? I’ll play the little aunt; you know how much I love children. Now give me your phone number; I have to set a
date
“Ask Noah, I’m in a hurry now, and please don’t mention this to your husband you know he d
he doesn’t keep anything from him.”
“Of course, she smiled, and trust me, this was the first time I’d ever seen her smile for real. I turned to leave when I heard her compliment my body. “You truly took my advice seriously,” she added. Yes, years ago when I left, she asked that I exercise, saying I might find a husband by doing so. Well, I didn’t do it to find a husband, so without saying anything. I got in the car, and Richard drove us while Poppy waved–she was insane
The ride back to our apartment was silent, no one said a word when we reached it. We got inside and silently unloaded the car, we unpacked the groceries and placed them in their right places without a word. If he needed me to pass him something, he would just poun after tapping on my shoulder if I was looking somewhere; now this was upset..
After that was done, he went to empty the trash while I took Andreas to help him get in bed. Andreas seemed so scared as if I were a
Well, he didn’t take long to fall asleep, so after making sure he was properly tucked in, I walked out and headed to the living room. I had a slight headache, but I was sure it would go away with wine.
I got a bottle and a glass, then walked to the living room, pouring myself, I took a sip before relaxing on the sofa.
having my wine when Richard came in, he looked different, so I quickly sat up.
“Did something happen?” I asked, and he shook his head and said he was going to freshen up.
“I’m also tired, so I might sleep.” He added and then left; I didn’t stop him. I mean, the Richard I knew would have asked me not to have wine or take too much, as he didn’t like it when I took alcohol, he didn’t drink, so it was understandable.
Gud, we just got latre, and already this. What would happen if we stayed here for a mouth? I really had to come up with a plan as I couldn’t risk Lagan knowing
I was pouring myself a second glass when I heard a knock on the door. I got up and walked to it as I knew who it was. Confinning through the glass, I opened it, and the person took me in their arms, hugging me so tight.
After a moment we both pulled away, and I asked that they come in, but they refused.
“I have to get back to work. I just came to see you.”
“It’s eight. What work is done this time?”
“I know, I just really wanted to see you. God, you look so different. See, when I told you he wasn’t treating you right?”
“Noah, it was not his fault, it was a contract. I’m the one who fell in love.”

“Still, he could have tried.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to come in? 1 opened a bottle of wine, and I don’t think TIl finish it, sol.
“Okay, fine, but just a glass”
“Just a glass.” I repeated and moved from the way so he could come in.
Closing the door, I followed him as he looked around before sitting.
“You said you want another place?”
“Yes, Logan knows about this one, and I really can’t risk him seeing Andreas,” I said, and he nodded. Noah was my only friend; yes, it was safe to call him that. Well, he knew about Andreas, as I always kept him in touch, although he had never met him face to face yet.
I went to the kitchen to get him a glass, and after pouring him a drink, I settled on the sofa across from him.
“Ahh,” he let out a satisfactory sound, “still your favorite?” He asked. Yes, those times when Logan didn’t come home. I would eat with Noah so we always had this wine.
“It is, I tried others, but nothing beats it,” I said, and he nodded, saying I was right–be also liked it
“But I’m on duty, so I can’t get drunk” He said, making me nod. We then started catching up. He was telling me about other things as I didn’t want to hear about Logan and Irene. He, of course, still told me Irene lost her child even when I didn’t want to hear it
“Irene and Logan are in my past, Noah.”
“Impossible. Andreas is Logan’s son, and yes, I know what Logan did, but he deserves to know the truth
“Of course, because he’s your boss, right?”
“You know I always pick you over anyone including him.”“”
“Then let’s not talk about him now; tell me about you. Have you found someone yet!” When I left, he was single, so I was just curious
“You know I can’t, right?”
“Why not?”
“Patricia

“Listen, I know working for Logan is–okay, I don’t know why you’re still working for him, but don’t you want your own family? Don’t you want a wife! Have children? I mean, you are very smart, you can get another job if you need to because Logan pays you thousands of dollars, which is just sitting pretty in your account, so why don’t-”
“I still love you” He cut me off, making my jaw drop. “Yes, Patricia, that’s why, four years, and I still can’t get that kiss out of my head.”
“Noah—”
“I know, I am not the man for you. He chuckled before continuing, “I would be crazy to think of that now, not after what you’ve become, but.” He stopped and closed his eyes. “You’re still all I think about. I try, but I can’t, Patricia; I can’t be with someone else.” He made me take in steady breaths. Yes, there was a night when we were having dinner when I kissed him, but it was harmless, I apologized, and of course, after that, he tried to make advances on me, but I always turned him downL
Then we became just friends. I mean, I kissed him because of my loneliness, not because I liked him or anything like that. But hearing him confess it, him not being able to move on, God, we were never even together.
“I have severi
point eight billion in my account; I don’t need to work for Logan, but I’m still working for him. Do you know why? Do you know why I still chose to be by his side even when I could start my own company?” He asked, and I swallowed hard, then nodded my head in understanding before I asked him why. “Because that’s the only way I feel closer to you, yes, being around the man you love, being around the house you once called home.” He revealed it, making my heart beat even faster
I was about to respond–tell him I understood, but he had to move on as this was my fault; I’m the one who first kissed him; well I didn’t get to say that as I heard my husband’s voice, which made me get on my feet.
