Ethan looked at the red exclamation mark and rubbed his brow in frustration. Combined with what the doctor had said yesterday, the doubts in his heart grew deeper.
“Ethan, my hand hurts so much. Will you feed me?”
For the first time, Ethan didn’t indulge her, coldly warning, “It’s just a small wound. Stop acting”
He rushed to the hospital, found yesterday’s doctor, and asked urgently, “What did you mean by what you said yesterday?”
The doctor recalled his words from yesterday and explained puzzledly, “I meant the young lady who took care of you for three years. She seems unable to speak. Every time we finished rounds, she would hold up her phone with just two words: thank you.”
He didn’t notice Ethan’s pale face and continued, lost in thought, “At the time, many people said you wouldn’t wake up, but she still insisted on taking care of you, practically living in the hospital.”
“Once during rounds, she was reading ‘Jane Eyre‘, so I chatted with her a bit. She said her view on love was to love with all her heart when in love, but not to cling on when it’s over.”
Ethan’s face grew paler. Actually, he had learned sign language. He remembered Rachel desperately signing that it wasn’t like that.
But what had he done at the time? He believed Olivia’s words, thought Rachel was coveting the Jiang family’s assets, believed Olivia’s lie about caring for him for three years, even though she was wearing makeup and an evening gown.
Thinking of this, he clutched his chest, gasping for air. Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out, gradually merging with the voice in his memory.
He ran out quickly, seeing a figure similar to Rachel’s. Without regard for the man beside her, he grabbed her, his voice trembling, “Rachel…””
I looked at the man before me suspiciously, not knowing why he knew my name, but feeling an inexplicable aversion towards him.
“You are?”
Ethan widened his eyes in disbelief, his eyes full of tears, “Rachel, I’m Ethan!”
“I’m sorry, sir, I don’t know you.”
He noticed my bandaged hands and his heart trembled, “I’m sorry, I was deceived by Olivia. I didn’t know you took care of me for three years!”
“The girl I saved that day was you, wasn’t it?”
He spoke incoherently, and I tried to piece together a complete story from his words, calmly saying, “I’m not the person you’re looking for, but you are quite a jerk. If I were that girl, I definitely wouldn’t forgive you.”
Hearing my words, all the strength seemed to drain from Ethan’s body. I unhesitatingly walked past him and left, with Jason roughly bumping his shoulder as we passed.
He watched my gradually disappearing figure, his hands clenched tightly.
The sunlight today was really nice. For some reason, two words floated into my mind: new life.
Why did I think that? I didn’t understand.
