Chapter 1
AUBREY
“Gather the limle pups of our Pack in the woods. It’s time for their training.” I chirped beside Beta Simon as we threaded down the stairs of the large living room
-you do realize what today is, right, Luna” The brown–haired man protested with a sharp frown causing me to pause. “Today is your third Sanniversary with Alpha Roland. Our Pack is supposed to be having a wild celebration party. You shouldn’t even be working on a day like this.”
1 exhaled deeply: “What’s the point of celebrating when my husband is not even here.”
He sighed too. “It’s unfortunate that the Alpha’s business trip is taking longer than scheduled but we both know that Roland would give anything to be here today if he had the chance”
“I know,” I combed through my
y golden brown hair lazily. “I just wish he were here. I miss him.”
He donned a tiny smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure to give him a good spanking for troubling our Luna when he returns.”
1 giggled.
“Thank you,” he said in a more serious tone, blooming with sincerity. “For being the perfect Luna Silverline Valley Pack could ever ask for. Three years down the job, it’s not easy.”
My smile deepened. “I’m honored, Simon.”
ne you will hear me say that.”
“And that’s probably the last time
“Oh please, I’m definitely getting this compliment from you next year,” I chuckled before we started threading to the door.
“Where are you going!” An old woman’s voice thundered behind us in a manner that struck an awkward silence in the large living room. Beta Simon and I froze midway and slowly turned backward only to be welcomed by the icy glare of her gray eyes that deeply reminded me of Roland’s as her hand held onto the handrail She might be old but anyone could easily tell she was Roland’s mother and that gaze of hers spelled trouble for
“Mother,” my lips parted on impulse. “You’re awake already. Good morning-
“I believe I just asked a question, Luna Aubrey,” she cut me off sternly and I exhaled deeply. I still remember how loving Mrs. Robertson was with me when her son and I got married. But over the years, she’d changed to that unbearable mother–in–law,
Beta Simon
and I were just about to train the pups
“You spend all day training pups, yet you remain childless. Don’t you feel ashamed?!”
My breaths hung in my throat as my chest tightened excruciatingly. As much as I wanted to stomach her spearing words, I failed woefully
“Queen Meranda, please, today is her anniversary,” Simon interjected.
“And what is there to celebrate? Where are my grandchildren who are supposed to be running around and making a mess of this house?”
My teeth gritted as my eyes gradually wavered to the marble floor.
“It’s been three good years and yet nothing!!! Roland’s friends that got married after him already have two kids in their homes and what is our own Luna busy doing? Training pups that don’t belong to her!”
“Queen Meranda!” Simon yelled.
to tell this barren woman the truth! She reeks of nothing but bad luck!”
“I’m disappointed in you, Simon. If only you had the balls to
Tears effortlessly ripped through my eyelids. How could I hate her? She was right after all. Roland might not show it but deep down I’ve always sensed his longing for an heir. I’ve tried hard, and visited several doctors yet nothing seems to be the problem. It’s almost as if the moon goddess deliberately just wants to punish me.
“And there she goes with her fake tears,” she hissed while Simon sighed beside me, unable to find the right words. “You are a shame to us all, Aubrey. A top Pack like us is being ridiculed by the others for living no heir because of you. I regret the day my son met you.”
My palms curled into fists as a tear trickled to the floor and at the same
me time, the door behind us opened.
“Luna, Mother, Alpha Roland has returned.” Rose, the housekeeper courteously said. I briskly wiped off the tears lingering in my eyes before facing
Rose.

“That sly bastard. I thought he said he couldn’t make it,” Simon commented.
“I guess he wanted to surprise us all,” my smile returned as bubbles of excitement popped in my chest.
“I wonder what gift he has in store for you this time.” Simon remarked.
Rose cleared her throat awkwardly, her countenance screaming worry. “The Alpha, didn’t return alone, Luna”
My brows furrowed.
“A lady and a child accompanied him.”
Simon and I gazed at each other confusingly but before any question could slip through our lips, the entrance door opened again, and a tall stunning black–haired man with gray eyes that sparkled and a black blazer suit perfectly tailored to match his sturdy physique sauntered inside.
“Roland– I grinned but my moment of euphoria was cut short when a petite red–haired lady followed suit. Her right arm was intertwined with Roland’s left and in her other arm, she held a boy I presumed wasn’t more than two years old. Her eyes were an alluring shade of emerald green, enough to effortlessly enchant
Welcome to my h home, Melissa Roland beamed in a way he’s never even done around me.
“Is she The Melissa” Mrs. Robertson chirped as she walked past me. “Is she the same lady you’ve been talking about, Roland?”
Roland nodded. The Melissa! My frown deepened.
“Mother!” Melissa grinned as she left Roland’s side to greet my mother–in–law who instantly glowed. “It’s an honor to finally meet you in person.”
“Aww.come here my child.” I watched in disbelief as both of them embraced each other.
“Roland? Do you care to explain what’s going on here?”
Only then did Melissa lock eyes with me. She still retained her innocent smile but I could easily see through that facade. How those eyes of hers subtly expressed contempt for me.
“I’m Melissa Martins,” she pitched. “Roland’s Ex–girlfriend. Actually, I’m his mate.”
My jaw dropped and I instantly forgot how to breathe. It felt like I was slammed against a wall that mercilessly shattered me to pieces yet I wondered how I was still able to grab a hold of my stance.
“What!!” I blared inadvertently
“This is Jeremy,” she pointed to the boy she was holding. “He’s my son. Roland is his father.”
I almost collapsed but Simon quickly held my shoulders. My heart thumped louder than my thoughts and 1 pinched myself just to ascertain that I was in a nightmare but sadly I wasn’t. This was my ugly reality!
“I know this is all too sudden and probably not the right time to be revealing this truth but I had no choice. Jeremy misses his father so much and it’s only right that my boy should know who his father is
“Tell me tell me this is all a prank,” I panted heavily, my eyes wavering between my mother–in–law, Roland, and Melissa who didn’t seem stunned like the rest of us were. If this was a prank, then it’s the worst kind of stunt to pull on our wedding anniversary!
“Answer me. Roland!!!”
