“How dare you!!” Alpha Roland growled with beaming red eyes that expressed a deeply terrifying rage but I didn’t falter to his pressure. I was not a weakling either, especially not in front of the woman I deeply wanted to protect with my life.
“Alpha Roland” I took a step closer to him, making sure my body shielded Aubrey behind me from his gaze. “This is not your Pack where you uan display your prowess. Neither am 1 one of your subjects you can command or disrespect. So I suggest that you behave like a gentleman!”
He took a step closer to me and scoffed. “Does your Pack lack manners or you are simply the black sheep who has refused to learn the concept of respect!”

“You bastard!” He growled and I smirked.
“What now? Do you want to hit me? Go ahead. I’m really curious if your strength is as shallow as your ego.”
His claws extended and I wasted no time letting mine out too. The air around us instantly grew still, our eyes glued to each other restlessly waiting for the first person to make the move between the two of us. A battle of who was going to yield to the other’s pressure.
“That’s enough!“ Aubrey suddenly came in between us but neither of us spared her a glance.
“Damien,” she softly toned while she pressed her right palm against my chest. I growled. “Please.”
Her whisper and soft touch easily allayed the mountain of rage that piled up in me. My eyes wavered to hers and I couldn’t help but lose myself to the allure of her hazel eyes. My eyes reverted to their normal shade and a heavy exhale followed suit before I stepped backward.
“Really“” Alpha Roland butted in, pain glistening sharply in his eyes. “Of all people, Him?”
She glared at him “Does Melissa know you are here right now!“.

“But it wasn’t on paper. Until I receive official documentation from you about your exit, you remain my Pack member.”
“Expect my letter and every other necessary document mailed to your Pack by the morning. Are we good now?
His eyes returned their gray shade and they easily reminded me of Olivia, one of the twins. His lips twitched but he couldn’t find the right words.
“You should leave,” Aubrey ordered in the iciest tone I’d ever use. If only she knew how much it sweetened me, especially since the pain on the Alpha’s face grew worse. “I’ve been accommodating enough but insulting my guest? I won’t stand for it!”
His chest towered up heavily.
“You heard her. I butted in and his hateful glare at me came alive with renewed vigor.
“Don’t make me call security,” she added and he cleared his throat before brushing past me. She then focused on me but with a harsh glare.
“Are you stupid or do you have a death wish?”
“Aubrey.”
“You do not want to be enemies with Roland. He could have killed you!”
“I could have killed him 100,” I calmly replied
“I’m serious, Darnient Roland is one of the powerful Alphas that shouldn’t be messed with. What happened tonight, he’s not going to forget it. I’m sure lir’s probably cooking up ways to deal with you!”
“Tin no easy fry that can be bullied, I’ll be fine. I assured her with a tiny smile.
“No, you won’t!” She tapped her forehead frantically while her countenance morphed into a worried one. “I know him, he won’t rest-

Chapter II
“I don’t care, okay?” 1 cut in. “I don’t care how powerful he is or how vengeful he can be, I do not regret what I did tonight. In fact! Time will drift by and I’ll look back on this moment and feel nothing but proud of myself that I protected you, Aubrey…I protected the woman I cherish. I will do it over and over again even if it’s going to cost me the last of my breaths!”
Her breaths ceased and her cheeks flustered with a faint shade of pink.
“Damien “her voice trailed a whispery path. If only she knew how much I craved to be her better half, if only I could confess what I truly felt for her, how much my wolf yearned for her like she was the very essence of my life. Then again, I knew better. She would reject me, she wasn’t ready to open her heart to anyone.
Yet I found myself profoundly attached to this moment. The way her hair softly danced to the tunes of the gentle winds, how her eyes sparkled with so much beauty comparable to the moon’s, and her lips every fiber of my body wanted to taste. I made sure to register every little detail like a flawless painting I can always look back to.
I exhaled deeply. “I probably shouldn’t have said that.”
She smiled sadly and peeled her gaze away from me but she didn’t move an inch.
“I guess I felt threatened with worry,” I mumbled. “Alpha Roland is the father of your twins after all. Seeing him tonight might have sparked your old attachment for him.”
Her gaze returned to me. “If only you were there to witness the humiliation and betrayal 1 faced that day in his Pack, you wouldn’t have entertained this thought.
I hate him and I’m only going to keep nurturing that feeling. My twins already have enough fathers in their lives.”
1 gulped down my saliva.
She sighed. “I’ve had a long night, I’m leaving”
“Let me drive you home,” I offered but she wriggled her head.
“Just stay safe, I would hate myself if you got hurt because of me,” she toned with a heavy dose of worry blooming in her voice.
I wore a tiny smile and she did the same too before walking past me. I turned back only to watch her keep straying further away from me by the second
I slipped my phone out of my pocket and dialed a number.
“Hey, it’s me, I want you to watch Aubrey tonight. Make sure she’s safe. Also, get every detail you can find about Alpha Roland of Silverline Valley.”
