Chapter 12
ROLAND
What happened at the party tonight? Why did we have to leave suddenly?” Melissa queried behind me while I climbed the staircase leading to our
bedroom
“Nothing happened.” I dismissed icily, expending every energy I could spare to keep my simmering rage at bay.
“You’re lying!” She retorted.
“It’s reeking all over you. Roland. You’ve been boiling ever since we left and you won’t talk to me, I’m worried!TM
I’m f
line. I stated sternly while threading in the hall
“No, you’re not!TM
“You should check on Jeremy if he’s sleeping soundly”
“Don’t try to change the subject. Is this about Aubrey!”
My legs halted with my back facing her. Mentioning her name alone easily triggered the ugly memories of the night I was trying hard to suppress.
“It is, right?” She added and I turned to her with eyes darkened with rage.
why didn’t
“Why didn’t you tell me you were working for her father?”
“Seriously! I thought we talked about this at the party. How am I supposed to know she is his daughter?!” She threw her hands midair.
“How are you not supposed to know the family you are working for?” I raised my voice against hers.
“Are you trying to blame me now!!
“If it wasn’t for the stupid party you forced me to attend, perhaps I would have had a lovely night and not have to deal with this shitty situation!” “And what’s shitty exactly? It’s not like we are in the wrong. You divorced her, rightfully so!”
I scoffed and wriggled my head.
“You know you’re being a complete jerk right now!”
“Oh excuse me for having a rough night! 1 retorted and resumed walking,
“You still like her, don’t you?” She chirped and my legs paused again. I turned to her while my chest towered up heavily. The obvious answer should be No yet my chords failed to produce that word. All I saw as my eyes bonded with my mate’s emerald green eyes was Aubrey.
“You are my mate! Melissa” I forced every nerve in me to let those words case out of my chest.
She huffed, “Why does it sound like you are trying to convince yourself rather than assure me.”
“I chased her away for you, what else do you want, Melissa!!” 1 gestured infuriatingly.
“For me or us? We have a son for goodness sake!”
“I know that!!” I yelled, commanding an awkward silence between us while my chest heaved up and down heavily.
“Alpha Roland, is everything alright?” Rose, the housekeeper, chirped as she joined us in the hallway.
“Everything is fine! Leave!” Melissa blared and the old woman bowed her h
head courteously before returning downstairs. “Maybe it’s high time you stop making every little thing about my ex–wife and focus on the fam
family you have now” I rambled.
“You
u could use that advice well yourself,” she retorted, “Silverline Valley hasn’t had a Luna yet ever since Aubrey left.”
My breaths hung in my throat for a moment. “Co to bed, I’ll be working all night long.” I said before storming into my office, slamming the door hard that 1 feared the walls night crack.
“Danın it!!!* 1 banged my desk and it halved but that wasn’t enough to

“How could she move on so easily!”
y!” I panted heavily in front of my window. “Damien, huh?”
What was so special about him! I’ve known Aubrey long enough to know that she was selectively picky about the type of people she lets into her life but this man in particular, bothered me. I still remember how he curled his arm around her waist at the party and her smile afterward.
“Sneaky bastard!” I blurted. I combed my hair frantically. For three years, every part of her body solely belonged to me and now one unscrupulous element thinks he can casually enjoy that benefit. But she is my ex–wife! We are legally divorced, why should I be bothered about him?
I sighed and rubbed the area between my eyes. Did I make a mistake letting Aubrey go? Ever since she left, barely anything has given me happiness
“Someone looks like a mess,” I turned sharply to my back only to see Simon close my offer door behind him.
-What are you
are you doing here?” I queried.
“Rose called me. She was worried, apparently you and Melissa had quite the argument he replied.
“We didn’t!” I snapped.
“Yeah, that tone of yours says it all.” he remarked while observing the room.
This desk costs quite a fortune, you know.”
I hissed. “Let Rose know I need a new one
“So are we going to talk about it or should I leave y
you to wallow in misery for the night?”
sat on my swivel with a sigh following suit. He picked one of the chairs on the other side of the desk to sit on too
“It turns out that Jordan Hospitals belongs to THE Jordan family, Melissa and I found out tonight,” I said and his brows arched into a slight frown.
“You mean Aubrey‘
I nodded
“Did you two meet
“We did, I sighed again. She was like the star of the night. All eyes were on her. Her family’s business is thriving even better than I thought and she looked different”
“You could say she was radiant, almost like she has completely forgotten about the past.”
“Were you expecting her to keep drowning in misery!”
“No! I mean.” my lips pursed. “What happened between us must have been traumatic for her. I just didn’t expect her t

to move on so s00IL”
“Who says I’ve been living fine?” I didn’t realize when those words left me in oblivion. His frown grew deeper and I had to quickly concoct a lie. “t mean, iny work has been expending a hell of an effort wearing me out.”
“So what really is the issue tonight?”
Damien! Damien was the issue. How dare he treat her like she was his woman!! But of course, I would be foolish to reveal this ugly part to Simon He never supported the divorce in the first place.
“Roland, you are our Alphia, and as our leader, a habit you shouldn’t have is deceit, especially to one’s sell.”
My brows furrowed.
“You might not admit it but you’ve changed ever since Aubrey left. It’s almost like she stole your glow.”
“Call it absurd all you want but if you have truly moved on, I don’t think you would be stuck in that chair thinking about your ex–wife”
My teeth gritted, I hated the fact that he saw through me easily
“You are wrong,” I stated.
“Another lie.”

“It’s late, you should enjoy the night with your mate rather than spilling some absurd nonsense.”
“Roland.”
“Leave.”

“Goodnight,” he said but I remained mute until he reached the door.
“Oh, make an announ
an announcement, Melissa and I are getting married in three days.”
His eyes exclaimed in shock but then he quickly masked it.
“As you wish,” he answered before using the door and as it closed behind him, I shut my eyes in frustration,
I have a son now, what example would I be making if I was busy chasing after a woman 1 rejected!
