Chapter 16
Never in my life have I been slapped, not even my mother has dared to do that but my ex–wife almost dislocated my jaw, that too in the presence of these people who would take pleasure in spreading this humiliation about me. If anyone had told me Aubrey had this in her, I wouldn’t have believed it.
“Roland Melissa gasped, overwhelmed with shock. “You bitch!” she tried to retaliate but Aubrey’s eyes turned a deathly chilling shade of golden. yellow as she stopped my mate’s hand midair. Even 1 felt a little bit taunted by the aura she exuded
“I was one of the best trainers in Silverline Valley so if you don’t want to be a recipient of my torturous hands you better stay the fuck out of this?” She snapped as she flung Melissa’s hand away.
“Aubrey isn’t your action a bit too much?” Alpha Stephen queried.
“I believe we were all present when Roland was busy using degrading words me undeservedly”
“Still, he’s an Alpha and should be accorded respect.”
“Someone who should be accorded respect should be deserving of it, don’t you think, Alpha Stephen?”
I scoffed at her. fighting the urge not to rub my cheek that still stung hellishly,
“I tolerated your filthy mouth once at my father’s party but I won’t accept a second time before it becomes a dirty habit of yours,” she berated me but all I found myself shamelessly doing was detailing every movement of her tender lips Lips Tused to claim for the past three years. I missed that feeling.
-You used to crave this filthy mouth of mine,” I retorted, hoping it would dose her anger on a heavier note
She huffed and shook her head in disbelief. “What the fuck is wrong with you! You asked for this divorce yet you are obsessed with me“”
“Obsessed! You“” I chuckled in bemusement,
“Does Melissa know“” She quipped back and I lost my smark.
“Know what?” Melissa queried, her eyes wavering between the two of us
“I guess he didn’t tell you how he shamelessly grabbed me at my party, reeking with jealousy for Darien as if I’m his woman.
Melissa frowned at me, her lips didn’t even need to do the talking to know she was disgusted.
You h
have a family now, don’t you! You should be spending ample time with them and not policing the people in my life!
And as for you, Melissa. I pity you for the kind of man you’re bonded with. He spent three good years with me before bringing you into the picture. Who knows if he’s entertaining another woman besides you? Time will tell as it did mine
She then turned 10 Alpha Stephen with a courteous look. “I must apologize for ruining your celebration, Alpha Stephen. Please accept my heartfelt wishes. I should take my leave now before my presence ruins the party any further.”
The old man smiled. “You are my son’s guest after all, how could I possibly let you leave? You see, my boy barely invites people to functions like this, and the fact that you are here must mean he has a lot of regard for you.”
Damien smiled. My brows furrowed while the Alpha turned to me.

“Alplu Roland, I suggest that you and Melissa take the n two days
I gulped down my saliva, this was his way of politel
politely excusing me from this gathering.
“Ako, I think it’s tigne we started reconsidering the terms of our partnership,” he tapped my shoulder. “Have a wonderful night, Alpha Roland” “Aubrey, follow me, I’d like to introduce you to a few of my people.”
“Of course, Alpha Stephen, she beamed before intertwining her arm with the old man.
“The door is that way.” Damien smirked at us before brushing i past me and for the first time in my life, I wished the ground would swallow me. In all my years of being Alpha never have I been insulted until tonight. This was not low I hoped things would turn out with my agenda. Thanks to my foolishness, I was about to lose my long–term partnership with Alpha Stephen but that wasn’t even my biggest loss tonight. It was the fact that Aubrey could potentially become the next Luna of the Silver Crescent Pack

“I’m ashamed of you, Roland Melissa painfully blurted, I was about to angrily respond when my phone rang in my pocket. It was from last thing I wanted to entertain right now was a call but Freya only called whenever it was important.
“Yes Freya,” I said on the phone.
I have bad news, Alpha Roland. Jeremy fell from the stairs in the Pack House and was injured badly”
Freya. The
“What?!” I yelled exasperatedly. My heart almost exploded and the phone almost slipped from my hand to the floor. If Freya says it is bad then it is usually worse than it seems,
“What happened?” Worry bloomed heavily in Melissa’s voice,
‘s Jeremy! He fell We’re leaving now!” Iblared and grabbed her wrist before running out of the ballroom Silver Crescent wasn’t entirely far from my Pack, it was simply a journey of a few hours and by the time we had arrived at my Pack, the night had sunk in deeper

“Where is my son!!” Melissa tearfully blared as we got to the private ward of the hospital. My m immediately left their seats facing the doors of the operation theater.
My mother briskly stopped Melissa from reaching the door knobs of the room, trying her best to console her. Simon, on the other hand, came to meet me, his eyes gleaming with worry
“How is he“” Were the words that effortlessly poured out of my mouth. “What happened? How could my son trip off the stairs, where were the housekeepers!!”
He was about to respond when the doors of the Operation theater room opened and Freya came outside. Melissa almost pounced on her but Freya wouldn’t let her pass through her.
“I need to see my son!!” Melissa yelled while my hands trembled. My mother had to intervene again, I’ve been hoping for an heir and now that I finally got one, was I going to lose him!
“What’s hus state?” It took all I had in me to muster that level of courage and free out these words.
Freya sighed. “Jeremy sustained multiple fractures and a very slow but we’ve managed to stabilize his condition.

The Pack Chiefs and I heaved a sigh of relief.
“Not” Melissa interjected. “I want to see him. I won’t rest until I see my son!”
Melissa, you heard Freya, everything will be alright. Let’s hope for the best!” I toned as calmly as I could.
“I don’t trust her! Jeremy is my son and I am a certified medical doctor I can go inside!”
“Melissa“” My tone hardened. “Freya is equally as experienced as you. For years she’s been our Pack Doctor, I trust her!”
“And I said I don’t! For all I know, she could kill my sout
“I’m the surgeon in charge of your son’s operation, I could have killed him a long time ago if I wanted!” Freya replied. “And you are Aubrey’s best friend before anything else, a slight error from your doctors could kill my son if you want!” “Melissal” I yelled.
“It’s alright, Alpha Roland, Freya calmly said while she put off her surgical cap. “I’ll allow her,”
Melissa hissed and brushed past her before storming into the the

“It’s worse than that, she sighed and I gulped down my saliva hoping it would ullay the mountain of fear mounting in me.

“Tell me,” I finally found the courage to say.
“During the operation, Jeremy needed a blood transfusion. Naturally, I had to check for his blood group as part of the process but I noticed something odd.”
My chest towered up in a heavy fashion.
“As you know, I have the medical records of the Alpha and his family but Melissa didn’t allow me to have any record about Jeremy. At first, I thought it was because she hates me but now thinking about it, it all makes sense.”
“I’m tensed enough, Freya, just spill it already,” I restlessly replied
“You and Melissa belong to the same blood group, O. While testing Jeremy’s blood group for his transfusion, I found out he belongs to the AB group”
froze in my steps with a sharp frown anchored on my face. “I don’t understand you, Freya.”
She sighed yet again. “I know this would be hard for you to take in but I think Jeremy is not your son.”
My jaw dropped and I almost lost my posture. My eyes twitched in disbelief and my lips trembled like a gentle tremor. Every moment I’d spent with Jeremy flooded my head like lightning but the one that haunted me the most. So they were all nothing but a lie? Have I been fooled all these
while!
“I suggest a DNA test,” she added but I was still struck in awe that my vocal chords could profess no words. “I’m sorry, Alpha Roland.”
