Chapter 22
DAMIEN
“Another successful surgery, Doctor Damien,” a black–haired lady chipped beside me as we walked into the hospital’s lounge in our lab coats. “Whenever I’m with you in the operation theater, I’m always at ease. Nothing could go wrong!”
I shot her a smile and tucked my hands into my lab coat pockets. “Good work, Doctor Alexa. You were great there
Still so formal with me I see, she glanced at me
“Good work. Alexa, happy now?”
She grinned. “Wanna grab coffee with met
I wriggled my head and her smile faded. I would be lying to myself if I pretended to be oblivious to her feelings for me but there were already various variables stopping me from reciprocating her attachments. My heart already belonged to someone else and Alexa might be an artwork of beauty but her only flaw was that she was human. A human who was totally oblivious to the world of werewolves.
“I’d love to but there’s someone I need to meet,” I replied.
“You never have free time, it’s almost like you’re avoiding me at every turn.”
“You know what, the next coffee will be my
She instantly glowed up. “Deal!”
I grinned. “I’ll see you around”
y treat, sounds nice?”
She hummed in response before I headed to the exit doors. The moment I sauntered outside of the hospital’s premises, I lost every ounce of joy I had in me. Did I even have any in the first place! Ever since Aubrey left me at my father’s birthday party, I have done nothing but pretend as if all was okay with me. Did I hate her for her choice? Not at all. Instead, I found myself understating her stance but that wasn’t enough to quench the fire torturing me endlessly.
I looked into the sky and heaved a deep sigh. The sun was gentle, perfectly complementing the winds. The perfect weather Aubrey would have liked whenever we took walks. I tucked my hands into my pockets again and strolled to the park nearby. I was particularly interested in the couple sitting on the green grass and cheering for their little girl having her first crawl. My smile grew into a sad one, Aubrey and I used to take walks occasionally in this park with the twins. We would have ice cream in our hands and I’d listen to her talk about her day regardless of how crazy it was. Those were truly the good times…
The winds suddenly hushed past me and it carried an overly familiar jasmine scent with it. Aubrey! Her name appeared in my mind on impulse. But then 1 shook my head in denial. There was no way she was here, my mind must simply be playing tricks with me or so I thought until my eyes caught a glimpse of her familiar golden brown curls. I couldn’t ascertain if it was her or not judging by her back facing me alone. I was about to look away until I saw the features of the man she was with.
“Roland?” 1 mumbled and without wasting the next second, my legs moved on impulse in their direction. If Roland was here, then that was definitely Aubrey. My pace became quicker and as I got closer to them, I focused my hearing on their conversation.
I your suffering will only continuet”
“Perhaps this is the moon goddess’s way of punishing and I deeply hope with every atom of my body that yo heard Aubrey tell Roland.
“How dare you!” Roland growled and my frown grew deeper.
d it made me ponder on what exactly was going on
“I will not be manipulated by you! I refuse to accept your condition!” Aubrey protested and i between them. Aubrey seemed to be the one in a fix.
“I mean it, Aubrey, Freya will die if you don’t return!”
She inched closer to him, “Do it and watch your Pack descend into chaos!!
My teeth gritted, whatever was happening between them, Aubrey was angry, I was about to step in until Roland’s eyes suddenly met mine. He frowned and before I could move an inch, he suddenly grabbed Aubrey’s wrist pulling her into his arms before kissing her deeply like she was his
better half.
Like a lighter, rage ignited in me and it spread like sulfur fire burning every shred of logic in me. My fists clenched, never have I been so hungry
y for another man’s blood. Stomach it I told myself but those words fell on deaf ears. This bastard was doing it on purpose to taunt me and Hell! it
worked.
My wolf and I wanted to rip him

was nothing but a shredded corpse. Aubrey suddenly pushed him away.
“You bastard!!”
“Aubrey” I didn’t know why but her name was all I could think of. She froze midair and turned backward to me with horror–stricken eyes seeing
- me.
“Damien.” she gasped, fear and guilt taking a stride in her voice. She probably thought I misunderstood the situation. Roland on the other hand grinned devilishly at me behind her. If we weren’t in the human world, the moon goddess knows what I would have done to this disgusting animal.
Aubrey wanted to meet me but he held her wrist yet again.
“We are not finished with our conversation, Roland bellowed and I neared them, my eyes solely fixed on him.
“Let her go.” I growled, his eyes mirroring the golden yellow beaming dangerously in my eyes.
“Careful. Damien, we are amongst humans.” He mocked and my claws extended instantly.
“Let her go!!!” I yelled, dragging the attention of the people nearby. I had gotten to a state of senselessness where I didn’t care anymore!
Aubrey Dung his arm away and rushed to me.
“Look at me, Darien!” She ordered, firmly holding my arms but I remained glued to Roland who rubbed his lips with a smirk. The same filthy lips he had used on Aubrey
“Damien“!” Aubrey yelled in a pleading fashion and only then did my eyes meet hers. “Please_” she whispered.
“That’s right, listen to her like the little puppy you are before everyone in the Pack thinks you are some monster,” Roland interjected.
“Fucking bastard!!” I almost pushed Aubrey away just to hit him but she stood her ground regardless.
“He’s not worth it, you are better than this, Damien. People are looking please, faint tears glistened in her eyes and it stung me to the core. I never want to be the reason for her painful memories.
I inhaled deeply and slowly, my eyes morphed back to their usual color and my claws retracted too.
“Let’s just leave from here,” she said but that was the issue. I didn’t want to leave because leaving would only mean I was the loser here. I wanted to punish him, no matter what it takes.
“Please Damien, I’ll explain everything.”
“You have till midnight to respond to my offer, Aubrey. Till then, deal with your puppy.” He waved at us before walking away on the other side. My teeth gritted again. Just what kind of dilemma was Aubrey stuck in for this bastard to have so much power over her? No, that shouldn’t even be my primary worry. He kissed her which only means one thing, he won’t rest till he has Aubrey!
