Chapter 28
AUBREY
“You shouldn’t have come here, Aubrey, Freya toned softly beside me as we sat on one of the couches in her living room,
“Should I have let you die instead?” I took her right hand and bonded it with my left. “Roland was hell–bent on killing you. You should have seen him today, he’s gone mad completely.”
She sighed. “I still stand on my point that you shouldn’t have agreed to his condition. He hired you into this trap and because of me you fell for it.
I held her cheek, so her eyes wouldn’t waver from mine. “I do not regret this choice I made. You would have done the same for me.”
“And what about your twins! Surely, you don’t intend to bring them here, right? You’ve always wanted them to grow up without having any sort of attachment to this Pack. Now that you are a trainer in the Pack, it requires you to be mostly present here.”
1 sighed. I already knew from the very moment that I agreed to stay in the Pack I was in a dilemma. What could I do? Roland was ready to risk it all and I couldn’t just sit back and let Freya die or drag Damien into a pointless war. This was the best decision for them but what is it for me?
“I’ll figure a way out.” I mumbled but the scrutiny in her eyes was enough testament that she didn’t believe me.
times. Devoting your life to these people, to
“Aubrey, this is a tough one. You’re a nursing mother and more than ever, your babies need you at all ti Roland, is a wrong move, they don’t deserve you.”
“If this is the sacrifice I have to make for saving you, then I do this with my whole heart.”
Sadness glistened in her eyes. “It’s all my fault.”
“Don’t do that to yourself. What happened was never your fault. It was just an error. Anybody can make mistakes.”
“It wasn’t a mistake, Aubrey,” she affirmed. “I’m not perfect but when it comes to the Alpha and his family, it is my responsibility not to joke with their health. I know what I saw, Jeremy is not Alpha Roland’s child”
My brows arched in a quizzical fashion. “Are you sure you didn’t make a mistake?”
“Do you think I would?”
1 exhaled deeply.
“I can b
bet my whole life on the result. Jeremy is not Roland’s son.”
“But the other doctor.
“He made a mistake. I’m sure of it.
1 peered at her for a while. “I just don’t get it, why would Melissa bring a bastard to the Alpha’s home? She is his mate
“A mate that didn’t hesitate to chase after her career and ler Roland marry you? Come on, Aubrey, you’re better than this.” My frown grew deeper.
“No lady would pass up the opportunity to be the Luna, especially when it involves Silverline Valley
“He careful with your speculations, Freya. If Roland hears this, it won’t be taken lightly”
“Oh please, from the very beginning. I always thought nothing but a sneaky bitch!”
at she was off and now the blood group result has further confirmed my suspicion. Melissa is
Knowing Roland, he would never forgive Melissa. He might even fail to take his rage and end up killing her. I felt pity for Melissa’s fate but I was more worried about Roland. All this time he thought he had an heir only to turn out to be a fraud.
“I guess Roland got what he deserved. After what he did to you! I would be surprised if the moon goddess didn’t punish him.” She added and at the same time, Simon strode out of the kitchen holding a red tray that housed a ceramic bowl of steaming soup and a glass cup of orange.
“I made this for you, is
it will help ease your body,” he gave the bowl to his mate who shot him a tender smile,
For you,” he said, extending the glass of orange juice to me.
“Thank you,“I
I beamed at him.
“I should be thanking you instead, he replied while he sat on the couch adjacent to ours. “If it wasn’t for your timely inte

Roland would have done. Making this decision must have been hard for you”
My smile gradually faded.
“Ever since the divorce, he has changed. Over the months, he barely smiled or even attended Pack ceremonies. All he mostly did was bury himself
with work.
1 think he realized too late, how much he truly cares for you. Damien was just the catalyst.”
Sadness bubbled in my chest thinking about how troubled Damien must be right now. He gave his all just to save me and Freya but in the end, his plan failed.
“Do you like him?” Freya asked and I sported a quizzical look. “Damien.”
My smile returned and it easily infected her.
“I’m glad you found someone that truly cares and respects you,” she remarked.
“My only fear right now is the hellhole our Pack is sinking in because of Roland,” Simon muttered. “Now we are potential enemies with Silver Crescent. There will be strife internally because of your return. We haven’t even factored in the pressure we could receive from other Packs.”
“Queen Meranda spent months calling you the doom of our Pack but in fact, Melissa is that doom. Since she returned, nothing has been the same anymore.” Freya added and I couldn’t help but sigh. A Pack that used to be so prosperous under Roland and I’s reign was now crumbling. I might have severed my ties with this Pack but this is not the fate I wanted for it or for Roland.
“Does your family know yet? That you’ve agreed to stay here.” Freya chirped and I wriggled my head.
“Whatever ways you can come up with, Aubrey, I strongly advise that you don’t spend another day in this Pack, Simon interjected. “Melissa considers you a threat”
“I know.” Another heavy exhale left my breath.
“Freya and I are leaving the Pack k tomorrow” He added and shock painted my face as my eyes wavered between the two of them.
“I can’t forgive him for what he did. If he could threaten Freya’s life, what’s to say he won’t threaten mine in the future?”
“Are we really going to leave Roland spiraling into madness like this?” The words worriedly flowed out of me but neither of them could find their tongue to answer me. They were worried too but Roland did hurt them and I know how hard it is to forgive his reckless actions. Then again, can 1 really bear it? Watching Roland and the Pack crumble!
A gentle knock graced the door tousling me from my world of thoughts.
“I’ll get the door,” I chirped before proceeding to the door. And as I opened it, my eyes exclaimed in surprise…
“Rose?”
