Chapter 3
AUBREY

I hated the sight of it. A ring I thought was given to me out of love was born from nothing but deceit and betrayal. Tears began to seep out of my eyes again but I wiped them off quickly as our bedroom door opened and Roland sauntered inside.
“The Pack Chiefs have arrived,” he coldly stated while 1 stood up from the bed. “You can cry your tears later, right now we have a meeting-
I peered at him in disbelief, it was all still looking like a dream to me. I could vividly remember how loving he was and how many times he had told me would miss me before going on his business trip. Was everything really a facade?
“What are you waiting for? Let’s go. He said.
“I really hope that someday I can hate you more than I loved you” I muttered and his eyes twitched before his chest heaved up in a heavy manner. “For you, I endured the pressure of your mother. I tried to be perfect in every way for you. If you even had an ounce of respect for me, you could have handled this matter better.
I looked at my wedding ring one last time before pulling it off from my finger. 1 inched closer to him and pressed the ring on his chest.
The ring fell from my hold but he quickly caught it,
“I hope you give Melissa an even better ring. She’s the true Luna after all” 1 toned with a heavy dose of sarcasm. He didn’t say a word or perhaps he couldn’t find the better words as he stared at my wedding ring.
“Leave. I need time to gather myself. 1 coldly stated.
“Don’t forget to pack your things as soon as possible,” he replied.
“Without a doubt, Alpha Roland.”
He slipped the ring into his pocket before leaving. And as the door closed behind him, I remained like a statue, hurting from the endless cycle of hellish pain. How much time had passed, I wasn’t certain but I was finally ready to face the last stage of my forment. I headed downstairs and had barely threaded down the staircase when the six Pack Chiefs, Mrs. Robertson, Simon, Melassa, and Roland all peered at me, reading my every look as if they were waiting for me to falter under their pressure but I wouldn’t give them that entertainment.
1 sat on the empty three–seater couch with a straight face and silence bloomed for a long moment before one of the Pack Chiefs arose.

“As a Pack chief, the old man continued. “It is our duty to watch, advise, and guide the Alpha and Luna on affairs of the Pack. Never in the history of our Pack as an Alphu divorced his Luna but
Can we just skip to the part where everyone agrees that Melissa is the better choice to be Luna because she bore the Alpha his heir and she is his mate?” I cut in abruptly and the Pack Chiefs cleared their throats awkwardly
“I’d like that to,” Roland replied before pointing to the glass center table in our middle. “The divorce papers.”
I glanced at the papers and back at Jum, he prepared everything well from the start. My eyes stung, aching to let tears stream out but it wouldn’t change anything.
“Since when have you had them! Before your
ir so–called business trip or during it?”
“Does it matter?” He retorted.
“Great, while I was busy anticipating the return of my husband from his business trip. He was busy preparing his divorce honeymoon with has mate” I quipped and he scoffed.

“Calm your balls, I’m leaving soon anyway.” I retorted
*Read everything carefully. You might have been a useless Luna but I at least ensured that you are paid handsomely.”
“I don’t need your money.” I quipped back
“I heard your father’s business is struggling these days, no Packs want to deal with him anymore. I’m sure this money will go a long way.”
My teeth gritted. “Says the man who came pleading for an alliance with my father three years ago.”|||
“It’s not my fault that your family’s business collapsed”
My eyes twitched but I spared no effort holding my tears back. “You’re right. I blame myself for agreeing to this marriage in the first place. I made a foolish mistake”

I proceeded to the table and angrily picked up the pe began to rip through my eyelids.
It was really over. The end of our history.
“Happy now!” I glared at him but he looked away and I briskly walked up the stairs before my tears started trickling. I rushed to our bedroom again where I was instantly tortured with old memories of Roland and I. I gripped my chest hoping this wrenching pain would at least ease up a bit but it didn’t.
I sat on the edge of our bed if only I had a child, Roland and I would still be together. I remained there for a while and when I finally found the resolve to continue packing my stuff the door quietly opened.
My brow furrowed sharply in rage seeing Melissa step inside.
“Get out!” I blared on impulse. She smirked and inched closer to me, studying every one of my features even to the smallest details. Now that we were alone she was finally flaunting her true colors.
“All these years, I’ve been wondering what kind of woman managed to charm my mate. I overestimated you,” she donned a sinister smile. “1 thought the Luna of Silverline Valley would be a tough meat to fry but I guess I was wrong. You’re nothing more than a pathetic barren woman of bad luck.
My breaths hung in my throat, trying hard to keep my wolf from acting on her instincts. Harming her would be asking for Roland’s wrath, something my belly was already overfilled with.
“You couldn’t even put up a fight. You disgust me!” She continued, “Well, I guess I should be at least grateful you’re not a tough one.” my left shoulder with her right index finger. My palms clenched and goodness knows that I’d imagined slapping the shit out of her.
“How d
does it feel though? A bedroom you and Roland used to share will now be mine and his forever”
My chest panged with pain and the tears I fought so hard to keep at bay trickled like a faulty tap

“This is what you get for being a greedy bitch coveting a claimed man. Roland was mine from the start and will always be for as long as I draw my breaths.”
“I could easily snap your neck right now and you can as well kiss that future your dream of with Alpha Roland goodbye” A lady Bercely toned behind her causing us both to focus in the direction of her voice.
“Freya!” I gasped in relief as my blonde–haired friend with daunting blue eyes that asserted testament to her very words walked in.
“And who the hell are you?” Melissa queried.
“The Pack Doctor and her best friend. Aubrey might be the gentle one but I do have a reputation for being monstrous.”
“Do you realize who you’re talking to?” Melissa snapped.
“A nobody who came to wreck a woman’s peaceful home? You can educate me if I’m wrong. Freya quipped back.
“How dare you?!” Melissa tried to slap her but she held Melissa’s hand in midair.
“Didn’t I warn you? I have a reputation for being monstrous Freya’s eyes turned golden yellow and her claws immediately dug into Melissa’s wrist still in midair. Melissa grunted, struggling to break free from her hold.
“Freya stop! She’s the next Lunal” I pitched in but my friend had gone mad completely.
“She isn’t Luna yet. As far as hierarchy is concerned, I’m the one with the upper hand here!”
“Freya, please,” I persisted and only then did she let go.

“You can go report me to the Alpha, I’ll gladly accept my punishment, bitch.” She told Melissa who growled. “Scram!” She growled and Melissa gave me one last contemptuous look before using the door. As the door closed behind her. Freya’s eyes reverted to normal.
“You fool!” Freya scolded. “Since when did you let nobodies start harassing you!”
“You’re the fool here! She’s Roland’s matel”
“And you are his wife!!”
Her eyes twitched in disbelief. “I can’t believe you, Aubrey. How could you give up on your marriage so easily!!”
“What is there to fight for?”
“Everything! How could you just let a random woman come steal your man before your eyes?
“Don’t you get it? Melissa is Roland’s mate! They have a son together! What the hell am I supposed to do?! My marriage to Roland was nothing but a damn contract. He doesn’t love me, he never I was about to yell my lungs out but I suddenly felt nauseous. I ran into the bathroom, almost vomiting my lungs out into the sink.
“Aubrey!” Freya dashed into the bathroom and froze. I combed my golden brown hair backward and peered at the mirror fixated on the wall before me. My hazel eyes had lost their usual sparkle thanks to the tears that had bled from my eyes.
“Aubrey.” Freya gasped as she came to join me. She took my right wrist, feeling my pulse.
“I’m not sick! I’m just stressed out,” I pulled my hand away.
“Your pulse is weak, your vomit is white,” she said while observing my eyes. “Your pupils are dilated more than usual. These are symptoms. Since when have you been experiencing this?”
1 frowned.
“One moment,” she rushed out of the bathroom and started rummaging through her handbag on the bed. She came back to me and handed me a pregnancy kit test-
“The symptoms you have now are synonymous to what a pregnant werewolf experiences in their early days of pregnancy. I think you should test yourself,”
“What?! That’s not possible, Freya. I still got tested last week! It was negative.”
“That was last week! Do it again.”
I inhaled deeply before taking it off her hands reluctantly. The kit was a simple silver needle with a small rectangular white box digital display attached to its top. This was our regular testing kit for a werewolf.
I slowly pierced my left wrist deeply with the needle and pulled it out after a few seconds. And with a thumping heart that almost exploded from my chest, I peered at the display waiting to see the usual single–stroke line but this time it was different. A double stroke!
“Oh my goodness, Freya!” I gasped with trembling hands. She took the kit from me and I covered my mouth with my palms, tears of joy leaving my eyes. Her eyes exclaimed in awe too and her lips parted into a wide smile.
“I’m pregnant!
