Chapter 51
Chapter 51: Sutton
We continued on our way and drove through the city. It had a broad layout with grassy spaces between the buildings. There was a wooded park in the middle of the city. I was looking at the skyscrapers over the top of the trees when Lucas turned into a driveway. I sat up straighter as I set eyes on a massive stone estate building.
“This is your packhouse?” I asked in astonishment.
Lucas chuckled. “Yeah, it’s a bit more old school than the modern Dawn Stalker complex,” he said. “But we like it.”
“It’s gorgeous,” I said.
“Then I look forward to showing you around,” he said. “I set up a restoration project to fix it up. The exterior, in particular, had been neglected for some time, and parts of the interior still needed some retrofitting when I moved in. But Alpha Morgan didn’t have much of an open–door policy. So most of the rooms were unused for years.” He pulled to a stop before a roundabout in front of the building. “You have a choice I parade you through the front door for everyone to see or go around the back. We’ll still be seen but you’ll be less on display.”
I rolled my eyes. “The back door is fine,” I said.
–
He followed the drive around the building. There was a covered two–story car park around the back that had been built to match the estate. We pulled through to the second level, where there was a designated parking spot for the Alpha. It was close to the connecting footbridge that led inside.

Getting out of the car, I stepped over to the railing and looked out over the grounds while Lucas got my suitcase. It was a surreal scene – landscape in a sea of modernity. It was beautiful. Lucas called for me, putting a hand on the small of my back as we headed inside. The footbridge led to a long patio with a set of large double doors,
“There’re eight wings,” Lucas began to tell me as we entered the estate. “We have the entire top floor of the central wing. There are two stairwell access points and a private elevator. This way.”
I tried to pay attention to him and the route he was taking us, but we were already getting stares. I felt my face heat up and I found myself hanging my head. I couldn’t be more relieved I had chosen to come the back way. And I was starting to feel a little bit silly complaining about him not making me feel good enough. Then maybe we would have snuck in through the dead of night.
Lucas wrapped his arm further around my waist, pulling me against him possessively. We reached a set of elevator doors. Lucas set the suitcase down and pressed the button before pulling me into a deep, passionate kiss. It was as amazing as always. My usual arousal was kept in check by still being acutely aware of our surroundings, but my legs were jelly–like when he pulled away as the elevator dinged open.
“What was that for?” I breathed.
“Like you said, just giving them something to talk about,” he said with a mischievous grin that didn’t help my legs want to work again. Taking my luggage, he guided me into the elevator.
“That wasn’t exactly what I had in mind,” I said as the doors closed.
Lucas chuckled. “But it’s what I had in mind.”
He pressed his thumb to a scanner as he pressed the button for the top floor. The light turned green and we began to move. A second later, the doors opened to a huge open–floor apartment with art deco accents framing the walls and windows. The furniture was luxurious. The fixtures were top–of–the–line. To the left was a large kitchen with a long island bar. A dining area separated it from the formal living room with a beautiful decorative marble fireplace.
“You can get unpacked and settled in a little before we get you into the system,” he said.
The system?” I questioned, wondering what I had gotten myself into.
“I’ll walk you through it all,” he said. “But first…”
Lucas tugged my hand, pulling me against him as his lips hit mine. With a hand at the nape of my neck, he pushed to deepen the kiss. I obliged eagerly. Everything was so unfamiliar that I wasn’t sure how to feel. But I knew what I felt when he kissed me. I wanted to cling to that.
His scent became overwhelming. Taking over the foreign feeling I was getting from my surroundings. My arms slid around his neck as we pulled each other closer. Heat bloomed in my core and my stomach flipped. The weight of my decision lifted and I remembered why being here with Lucas was the right choice.
My focus centered on Lucas. His touch. His taste. His scent. I felt something stir inside me. Something new. It was somehow familiar yet incredibly unknown at the same time. It felt almost… primal.

My need for Lucas spiked. I leapt at him, wrapping my legs around his waist. He growled in response. His hand fisting in my hair as he stumbled a few steps back. He turned as we hit the table. Our movements became more fervent. Hands fumbled with each other’s clothing. I was so engrossed in him that I didn’t even register the ding of the elevator.
I gasped and Lucas pulled away at the sound of someone clearing their throat. A surge of anger burst through me briefly. I stifled a growl as the emotion was quickly replaced with embarrassment.
“Pardon me for interrupting,” a female voice sounded.
My face must have been bright red. You’d think I would be getting used to being caught by now but this felt like the worst for some reason. I fought the urge to bury my face in Lucas‘ chest but I couldn’t manage to look over.
“Elise,” Lucas said gruffly. “Your timing is lacking today.”
“Again, my apologies,” the woman responded. “I wasn’t expecting a guest.”
