My fingers played absently with Sutton’s hair as she was draped over my chest in bed. My body was spent from hours of pleasure with my mate but my mind was racing. It had been the most incredible — and by far best night of my life. It wasn’t just seeing her shift for the first time or meeting Nova. I got to know Sutton better tonight. I got to see parts of her I don’t think she even knew were there. There were surprises as well as some confirmed curiosities.
But that left me with a weight on my shoulders that I didn’t know how to handle.
My time with Sutton’s stepfather had been complicated. While we still didn’t have any information that could strongly point us in any direction regarding her identity, there were little bits of information that hinted towards a specific possibility. The missing box worried Soloman the most. Either the box was destroyed and all our answers along with it. Or Alpha Anders had it and had plans for the contents. The first would be frustrating- and likely devastating for Sutton but the second was likely far more dangerous. Before tonight, I could explain away any hunches or intuition as mate bias. Sutton would always be more than special to me no matter who she was, But seeing Nova… Taking in everything she was… The reactions of the others… There was no denying she was something more than we ever expected.
And none of that touched on the fact that I had to figure out how the fuck to tell her Beta Mason was still alive.
Rhonen snarled in the recesses of my mind. I hadn’t believed it when Wesley first said it. I didn’t see how it was possible. But everything else we learned meant that we would have to start a recon mission within the Dawn Stalker Pack to get further information. That’s why I wasn’t able to come home the first day. Sutton stirred against me, murmuring softly as she started to wake up. The moonlight shining through the window illuminated the sleepy look on her face as she lifted up to look at me.
“What’s wrong? What time is it?” she mumbled. “How long was I asleep?”
I chuckled, kissing her forehead. “Not long,” I told her. “A couple hours. It’s not yet sunrise.”
She hummed as she laid back down on my chest but she didn’t drift off again. Her fingers traced the lines of the tattoo on my chest.
“How are you feeling?” I asked. “Sore?”
She nodded, then pushed up onto an elbow. She was biting her lip and she looked at me with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
“Is it crazy that I kind of like it?”
“No,” I growled, pulling her on top of me all the way, her legs automatically straddling my hips. My dick instantly sprang to life. “That means I did my duty right.”
She hissed as I slid against her core. She tried to lift away but I held her in place.
“Lucas,” she scolded weakly. “Just because I like it doesn’t mean I can take anymore.”
I chuckled, nipping at her bottom lip. “Oh, really…” One hand slid over her ass and dipped along her folds, already slick from my touch. “I think you’re underestimating yourself, baby.”
She moaned my name as I slowly worked her clit. Her fingers dug into my sides as I kissed her. She relented to the temptation, pushing against my hand as I brought her to the brink. “What’s wrong, princess?” I asked, lifting her chin to look at me. Her brow furrowed. Her expression wasn’t sad but there was something on her mind. “Sutton…?”
“You pulled out again…” she responded. “You said you’d believe me when I said I was ready.”
I sighed, a relieved grin tugging at the corner of my mouth. I brushed a strand of hair from her face and kissed her before falling back into the pillows.
“I meant it,” I assured her. “That was for me. It’s a precaution, baby.”
Her brow wrinkled deeper. “I’m on birth control,” she announced, disappointment and even hurt crossing her face as she tried to push off of me.
I pulled her back with a rumble. “That’s good to know and we’ll come back to that conversation,” I told her. “But that’s not what I’m worried about. I’m worried about you, Sutton. Not about your past.”
Another furrow. “Wha…”
“You’re tight, baby,” I explained with a laugh. “You’re going to tear. As phenomenal as being buried inside you feels and as incredibly bad as I want to knot you, I’m not that much of an animal. I wasn’t going to risk that kind of pain ruining our first night together. Even if you were okay with it, I’m not.”
“Oh… so I didn’t…”
“Sutton, if you ask me if you did something wrong right now, I’m going to bend you over and spank that ass red,” I said, grabbing her chin. “Although, I might still do that anyway. And I’ll do it because you like it. Because this has been the best night of my life.” She squealed as I flipped her onto her back. “So much so, that I plan to make it continue when long into the day.” I brushed my lips across hers. “And then tonight… we have an announcement to make.”
