On Liberty Island, five people shared a Grade A dormitory. The other three had already gotten up early to go train. Megan glanced at the clock–it was 6:30 AM–and quickly got up to wash up.
Seeing Quiana still asleep, she hesitated for a moment before walking over and softly calling, “Quiana, Quiana-”
Quiana in the bed suddenly opened her eyes, and a flash of crimson appeared in her pupils. Her gaze was cold and fierce, with a deadly glint. Megan jumped back, startled, taking a few steps backward. “T–the assembly has started.”
Quiana’s gaze froze for a moment, then she closed her eyes. After three seconds, she opened them again, her eyes clear and calm. “I know.”
“I’ll go ahead then,” Megan said and practically ran out of the room. As she stepped outside, she realized that in those few seconds, cold sweat had broken out on her back. That look was too terrifying.
Quiana was now alone in the dormitory. She took out her phone and turned it on, and instantly, countless messages popped up. Several of them had a black inverted triangle icon flashing persistently–emergency messages.
Quiana furrowed her brow, entered the twelve–digit password, and opened the app.
Zaid: [Cindy, the Hawley family has increased the offer to 10 billion dollars. They want The Seraphic.]
Cindy didn’t reply.
Zaid: [Cindy, are you taking it?]
Cindy: [No.]
Zaid: [Aren’t you short on cash? This is 10 billion dollars! Finish this job, and you’ll be set for life!]
Cindy: [No.]
Quiana thought, ‘I was a bottomless pit. Even 10 billion dollars wouldn’t be enough to secure me a lifetime of comfort, let alone 1 hundred trillion. And besides, making myself work for myself wasn’t something I needed to do.’
She closed the app, replied to a few other messages, then disconnected and turned off her phone. She pulled the blanket over herself, flipped off the bed, and landed gracefully. Cool and confident.

Ten days later, the first public performance was announced, and the voting channel was opened. This would also mark the start of eliminations. For the performance, they couldn’t dance one by one, so they formed teams.
Teams were no longer based on rank but were mixed. One hundred trainees were divided into ten groups, each with ten members.
Trainees in Grade A had a special privilege, the five of them could automatically become the captain and choose their team
members first.
“Next, it’s your turn to-” Steven was saying when he suddenly saw a hand raised in the crowd. The arm was slender and white, and the hand was particularly beautiful. It was Quiana.
Quiana was known for being bold and unrestrained, but she was also polite and would raise her hand if she had a question.
Steven paused, smiling. “Yes, what is it?”
Quiana frowned. “Can I not be a captain?”

Everyone looked over, their eyes filled with surprise.” Being captain proves a trainee’s excellence! Who wouldn’t want it? She could easily get it, yet she’s asking if she can refuse, some of the trainees thought.
Steven was taken aback for a moment but then said, “Sure, you can.”
Quiana nodded and stepped back to the side.
The others were speechless.
“Pretentious,” Luna muttered under her breath. “Putting on a show.”
Viola snorted. “At least she knows her limits. No one would join her group anyway, so she’s saving everyone the trouble by stepping down.”
Lucy’s gaze swept over Quiana briefly and then moved on. Even though Quiana’s actions surprised everyone, Lucy didn’t take her seriously. Lucy had lost twice and even embarrassed herself, but she didn’t consider Quiana a threat.
Because Lucy was certain she would form a group. And Quiana definitely wouldn’t. She began selecting the members for her group. “Stephanie Lane…”
The teams were temporary, and they would be reformed for each public performance. Lucy chose strong trainees who would benefit her. Many trainees also wanted to join the teams led by Megan and the others.
To stand a chance of not being eliminated, you needed to be in a strong team. Each group had ten members, and they needed to cover singing, dancing, songwriting, and production. Ten minutes later, only Quiana was left without a team.
