Chapter 20
Mandy paused, frowning, “Winona is studying at the top academy in Janivielle. She’s diligent, kind, and elegant, with at flawless reputation, making the Larsons proud,
“Look at you, with all your past mess–ups–how can you even compare to Winona? If you step into the entertainment industry, you’d just bring shame to the Larsons!”
Quiana let out a low, cold chuckle. “Mrs. Larson, maybe we should have another DNA test?”
The hidden message reminded Mandy of who was truly related to her. It was also a warning
On the other end of the phone, Mandy’s expression froze, and her voice softened reluctantly. “Quiana, that’s not what I meant. I just think you’re not cut out for the entertainment industry,
“Plus you’re going to marry into the Hawley family, and they wouldn’t want their future daughter–in–law in the spotlight. You-
Quiana didn’t have the patience to listen to Mandy prattle on, so she hung up, her face cold and indifferent.
At the slums, Hugo got out of the car, carrying a cat carrier, and waved at them with a cheerful grin. “Bye!” He seemed so well–behaved–well, except for the fact that he had a wolf with him.
Looking at the rundown and oppressive slums and the sight of Hugo skipping into the alley, Zack was a bit taken aback.
He took a deep breath, “Are kids from the slums all this amazing now?” This wasn’t mentioned in the info they gathered on Quiana.
Just then, Shane called. He had been to the Hawley manor today. Over the phone, his voice was heavy. Julius, the old man’s condition is getting worse.”
Julius father, Edward’s health had been declining over the past couple of years, with frequent illnesses. But this time seemed more serious, and there were even rumors suggesting he might not make it.
At the Hawley manor, the courtyard was filled with people, all of whom were important figures from different sectors.
“Mr. Hawley.” They greeted Julius who came in an automatic wheelchair, but only they knew how genuine their respect was.
Shane walked over, not wearing his glasses today. His narrow, sharp eyes exuded sophistication. In a low voice, he said to Julius, “My dad’s still inside doing tests on the old man.”
The President didn’t dare overlook the situation and sent someone to offer condolences. The Director of the National Medical Bureau, Shane’s father Paul, personally came
It was June, almost summer. Julius wore a black shirt under his trench coat, with a blanket over his legs. He looked hot, yet a cold aura enveloped him.
His handsome eyes were filled with gloom, and the tear mole at the corner of his eye added an unsettling charm, laced with a hint of menace.
Listening to Shane, Julius showed no expression, just kept his eyes downcast while fiddling with a small white bottle no thicker than his thumb, where the pills inside softly clinked against the walls with the jolts.
“Tll go ask my dad,” Nolan whispered, then moved through the crowd toward the outside.

Zack leaned against the back of his wheelchair, his eyes scanning the people in the courtyard, a playful smile on his lips. “What do you think? How many here are truly sincere?”
As soon as Quiana returned to the basement, Hugo ran up and shoved a tablet in her face, seething with anger. “Quiana, someone’s digging up dirt on you!”
It was a tweet: [I saw Quiana on set today. Even Evelyn said Quiana’s a special guest star. I got curious and looked her up, and you guys won’t believe it–Quiana, the daughter just found by the Larson family, was actually a child star!
She started her career at the age of three, playing daughters with veteran actors. Her acting was amazing even at such a young age, and she became famous for a few years.]
It also included a video. It was from an old show from over ten years ago. A little girl looked no more than four or five years old, but her every glance and line packed a punch.
Especially in a scene where her family was destroyed, she portrayed the fear and despair a child would naturally feel with incredible realism.
