Shawn set his glass aside and rose to his feet, his voice low. “Yuna didn’t come back with me. I just wanted to stop by and see you.”
I nodded and teased. “As long as it wasn’t a break–in.”
Shawn kept silent.
I set my bag down and walked into the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea. When I turned around, I saw Shawn standing at the doorway, his gaze unreadable as it lingered on me.
That day, I was dressed in a Chanel–inspired outfit–elegant, poised, with a touch of professional flair. A look that spoke of growth, confidence, and quiet strength.
Shawn’s gaze was like a mirror–every bit of growth in me reflected through his eyes.
Tiffany, can we hold off on the divorce for a bit? Shawn said quietly. “My company’s in the middle of some major deals, and the key shareholders are keeping a close eye on me. If we split now, it might look like I’m stirring up trouble on purpose.”
I turned to face him. “How long is ‘a bit? If it drags on too long, then forget it.”
Shawn froze for a second, clearly not expecting me to be so firm about the timeline. With a bitter laugh, he said, “Am I really that awful?”
I met his eyes and shook my head. “No, you’re amazing, just not the right person for me anymore.”
“So this is all because of Queena?” he asked, sounding both wronged and defensive. “You’re really going to turn me away over a brief mistake? Adults screw up sometimes–it happens. Isn’t that normal?”
“Who said I’m like you?” I shot back, clearly fed up. “That’s your kind of normal: Don’t lump me into that grown–up
nonsense.”
Shawn gave a helpless smile, leaning against the glass as he stared up at the ceiling. Do you
When did it all disappear?”
really not love me anymore?
I let out a cold laugh. “It didn’t disappear all of a sudden–it wore down, little by little. You see, you always knew how much I loved you, and that’s what made you fearless. When your company went public in Andorwood, Queena was right there with you, basking in your success. While you were enjoying the applause, I was home alone, raising our child. That’s why we are never on the same path. I wasn’t your partner–I was your afterthought, left behind like some mistress in exile. When you were in a good mood, you’d reward me with money or a necklace. And when you weren’t, you said the pressure was too much and disappeared for ten days, sometimes longer.
Shawn’s expression faltered–my words had struck where it hurt most.
He must’ve recalled those days when Queena stood beside him, clapping the loudest as he basked in his success. Maybe back then, all he saw was her dazzling smile, while I’d already faded into the background, tucked away like an afterthought.
“Don’t say a word. Don’t explain. Don’t make me lose any more respect for you.” I lifted a hand to stop him as he opened his mouth to justify himself. “I don’t even want to hear it.”
Shawn looked a little awkward. He cleared his throat and said, “So we’d already grown distant. I was just too slow to realize it.”
1, gave a faint smile. “Shawn, isn’t this divorce actually a win for you?” I tilted my head, my voice laced with irony. “Look at yourself–tall, handsome, successful, loaded. Once we split, you’ll be back in the ocean, free to swim wherever you want. No more nagging, no more rules. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”
I spoke with a hint of playful sarcasm, and it clearly caught Shawn off guard.
Coming from a scholarly family, I was raised to be gentle and poised–well–read, well–mannered, and steeped in traditional values. Thit kind of audet, ersceful rectesint was connexed to he mu most admiralde train. So now this unfiltered hamaru this

“Tiffany, as that really how you see me? Some fickle playboy?” His tone grew low and tense, clearly annoyed by the ocean comment. “You know me better than that. I’ve never been that kind of man. I don’t even have the time or energy for games like that–and frankly, I’m terrified of catching something What I’ve always wanted is a partner. Someone who understands me, and can resonate with my soul. Someone I can grow with. What would I need a bunch of women for?
Hearing Shawn defend himself so seriously, I couldn’t help but smirk playfully. “Oh, right, you’re not that young anymore. Tve heard that after 25, men start aging like milk. You’re probably not as capable as you used to be.”
“Tiffany … “A flush crept up Shawn’s usually composed face. “Where exactly am I lacking?”
I arched a brow, my tone light but sharp. “Oops, did I hit a nerve? My bad. I paused for a beat, then added with feigned curiosity, “So about that soul resonance you just mentioned was Queena one of them?”
“Let’s not bring her up anymore–she’s already overseas, Shawn said, his voice growing tight with irritation.
“Alright, we won’t talk about her–let’s talk about us instead. After all, getting divorced is a win for you. Who knows, maybe your next wife will give the Hartwells a healthy son.” When I thought about the fact that he only had Yuna in his past life, 1 could sense a hint of disappointment in him
“I’m not living my life just for the sake of having children. Shawn said with a frown. “Yuna may be a girl, but she carries my blood–she is my next generation. Tiffany, if you don’t want to have any more kids, then we won’t. Let’s just raise Yuna together and groom her as the next heir. Would that be alright?”
