Chapter 180 Melanie’s Photos

Shawn did not pursue me any further, which I feared he might, turning our interactions into a spectacle for the neighbors.
Outside the villa, I flagged down a taxi.
By the time I reached home, it was early morning. Exhausted, I quickly showered and collapsed into bed.
That night, I had a vivid dream
In it, Shawn was cradling a baby. As he gently spoke to the infant, he suddenly turned to me and said. Tiffany, the little one is hungry. Can you feed her some milk….
“Ah!” I did not catch the rest of his words as I woke abruptly, drenched in sweat.
Propping myself up. I tried to dismiss the dream.
Usually, I forget pleasant dreams immediately upon waking, but this unsettling one clung to my memory.
I checked the time; it was not even six o’clock yet, so I decided to go for a run.
The residential area was quiet at that hour, and as I ran, head down, I nearly collided with someone.
“Ms. Mayfield?” The person stepped back as he approached, his voice as clear as the morning sun.
I halted, stunned to see Jace wearing headphones.
Just then, an elderly man approached, panting and seemingly about to speak, but he restrained himself.
“Do you live here?” I asked, surprised.
Jace suddenly embraced the elderly man beside him, explaining. Tm staying with my great–uncle. He lives alone, so I came to keep him company.”
The elderly man appeared momentarily taken aback before nodding, “Yes, he is such a good boy”
Confused by the interaction between the two, I did not dwell on it and simply nodded, “Oh, what a coincidence. I live in Unit 1. Which unit are you in?”
Tm in Unit 3,” Jace pointed to the building behind him.
I gave a slight smile, ‘Okay, see you around.”
I quickly dashed home, prepared breakfast, showered, and then headed to work.
Around eight o’clock, I received a text from Shawn informing me that someone had returned my car to its parking spot.
Reflecting on my firm stance from the previous night, I saw Shawn’s gesture of returning my car as an act of humble affection. Was he really trying to show love respectfully?
Sadly, belated gestures of sincerity, no matter how genuine, felt too little, too late. I was not going to accept it.
“Thank you!” I texted back politely.
As I drove out, I noticed Jace trying to hail a cab during rush hour, a nearly impossible task at that time. The nearby bus stop was overcrowded as well.
Since he was along my route, I pulled over and offered him a ride.

Jace got out just before we reached the company, thanking me again for the ride. His good manners did not go unnoticed- his character really was commendable.
When he entered the office, he placed a coffee on my desk. “For the ride,” he explained.
I watched him smile warmly before he walked away.
Since he mentioned it was for the ride, I felt obliged to enjoy the coffee.
It had been a while since I had last seen Yuna. According to Shawn, she had gone abroad with my mother–in–law.
True enough, today Yuna sent me a flurry of photos from her trip. I browsed through them without responding.
She also sent pictures of some minor injuries she had gotten from a fall, accompanied by crying emojis.
On the first day, she bombarded me with 20 photos. By the second and third days, the count had reached over a hundred. clogging up my phone’s storage.
So, I finally told her, “Just enjoy your trip, and please, no more photos.”
Yura seemed to understand because she had not sent any more photos since then.
During dinner with Melanie, she mentioned she had never been to Oceanside and was curious about the scenery. I decided to show her some photos I had.
Melanie examined them more intently than I had and suddenly pointed to one, saying. “Tiffany, look at this person. Doesn’t she resemble Queena from before?”
I paused, took a closer look, and felt my heart drop. It indeed was her.
“Didn’t you tell me she was pregnant and going abroad to give birth? She doesn’t look pregnant in these photos,” Melanie remarked. She was aware of this because we had discussed it previously.
A wave of panic washed over me. Was my mother–in–law taking Yuna abroad specifically to meet with Queena? What was she trying to imply?
It seemed the Hartwells still underestimated me, thinking I was oblivious.
It appeared they were considering Queena as a potential backup daughter–in–law.
Any lingering fondness I had for Susanna evaporated at that moment.
I do not hold it against her; I am resolute in my decision to divorce, and as Shawn’s mother, it is her prerogative to consider
his future.
However, since she has been maneuvering to align with Queena, she has no right to challenge my decision to leave.
It turned out she had been concealing her intentions, but Yuna inadvertently exposed her plans.
I carefully selected three photos where Queena was clearly visible and saved them for future reference.
