Susanna’s temper flared easily, and I was directly challenging her control of the situation. Would she back down now?
She stood abruptly pointing at me. “Tiffany, I’ve put up with you for too long. You’ve embarrassed me in front of friends and family. I don’t care even if you’re not ready to leave. Shawn, finish the paperwork quickly. There’s no reason to wait. You can certainly find someone better and more capable than her.”

Shawn, concerned for his daughter, reprimanded Susanna “Stop it. Mom. You’re frightening Yuna.”
Susanna sat back down, shooting me hostile glares, clearly seeing me as an adversary.
She had already chosen her preferred future daughter–in–law; Queena’s charm had won her over after spending these days together. In her eyes, Queena eclipsed me entirely.
Shawn restrained himself and calmly stated, “Mom, stop berating Tiffany. The fault lies with me. I need to change.”
“What fault of yours? She doesn’t understand you and can’t share your burdens. She’s not a qualified wife, Susanna countered sharply

Shawn defended me. “What Tiffany did in the past proves she’s a qualified mother and wife. She’s now striving at work and showing her strengths. Don’t be so harsh on her.”

“No, I’m working for myself, not for anyone else,” I clarified.
“Did you hear that, Shawn? She’s working for her own benefit, preparing for life post–divorce. Tiffany, let me make this clear once you’re divorced, you shouldn’t work under Shawn. It’s inappropriate. Is this also one of your schemes? Shawn will have to pave the path for his future marriage. What would it look like, having an ex–wife linger around?” Susanna said, clearly displeased.
I agreed. “Ms. Lawrence, you have a point. I’ll step down immediately after the divorce.”

“Let’s keep her work out of this, Shawn interjected firmly, then addressed me. “Tiffany, don’t resign just yet. The hotel has been making significant strides thanks to your efforts. Don’t you want to see the fruits of your labor?”

Yuna added softly. “Did I make you upset? I always talked about how nice Queena was, but I really like you more because you’re my mommy”
Susanna scolded her. “Yuna, you said Queena was nice, why are you changing your story now?”
Yuna looked down, fiddling with her fingers. “Queena is nice, but she favors her nephew. When we were abroad, her nephew pushed me, and she helped him first. I was hurt, but she didn’t even look at me.”
This revelation surprised everyone.
Inwardly, I could not help but smirk as Yuna finally had her first real encounter with human nature.
Yet. Shawn reassured her. “It’s okay, Yuna. Queena is kind to you because she likes me. If she didn’t, she might not be as nice to you.”
Susanna was worried. “Shawn, what are you saying? Yuna is still young, don’t fill her head with such ideas.”
Yet, Shawn was resolute. “Tiffany is right. Yuna is starting school soon, and it’s important she learns to discern right from wrong early on. We need her to be savvy, not naive. Shielding her from reality won’t help her in the long run.”
