“Your dad is ready for you,” I informed Yuna.

She began to sob. “Mommy, do you really not care about me anymore? Even if I behave well and listen, will you still not notice me?”
“Being well–behaved isn’t just about saying it,” I said as I opened the car door for her.
Yuna moved slowly towards me.
“Mommy, can I visit Gramps and Granny?” she asked softly. “I’ll talk to them myself.”
“If you can convince them, you can go,” I replied, knowing my parents would welcome her.
Yuna’s spirits lifted slightly; she climbed into the car and waved at me as she left.
shut the door, watched the car pull away, and then headed back to my office.
Around four o’clock, Susanna stormed into my temporary office. Dressed lavishly, she was still hardly recognizable to some at the company.
She barged through the door with visible anger, causing the glass to rattle.
“Tiffany, I never thought you were ambitious or tough. When Shawn wanted to marry you, I was against it a hundred times over. But eventually, I accepted you because of your demeanor. Now, you want money and to take Yuna away, is that it?” Susanna accused sharply, pointing at me.
I looked at her puzzled. “Ms. Lawrence, you’re mistaken. I’m not fighting for custody; I don’t want Yuna.”
“Don’t lie to me. This afternoon, Yuna was crying, wanting to go to your parents‘ place. I couldn’t stop her. Shawn has arranged for her to go to the airport,” Susanna continued. “Don’t push things too far. How have I treated you all these years as your mother–in–law? You haven’t provided a Hartwell heir, yet I’ve never complained. And now, you want to leave us with nothing?” Susanna’s voice broke as she continued, growing more upset by the moment until she finally sat down and buried her head in her arms on my desk, sobbing.
I stood frozen as Susanna cried uncontrollably, gasping for air. After she finished, she glared at me and exclaimed, “I don’t know what kind of spell you’ve put on Shawn. Why does he still say he likes you? You’re so heartless to want to divorce him, to split up like this. When he’s drunk, he still calls out your name. You’re nothing but a manipulator, Tiffany. Shawn and Queena have nothing going on, yet I keep insisting their relationship is unclear, tarnishing my son’s reputation. You’re after his money, you are the most despicable person.”
I listened stoically as Susanna vented her fury, absorbing her words with a mixture of surprise and resignation.
“Shawn is simply being stubborn. If I hadn’t brought up the divorce, he eventually would have. I understand him well enough,” I responded coolly.
“You don’t understand anything. If Shawn didn’t care for you, why would he have married you? I know my son–he wouldn’t entertain such flippant ideas. It’s you… you’re messing with his emotions, Susanna defended her son, as any mother would, seeing only the best in him.
“Ms. Lawrence, there’s no chance for Shawn and me anymore. You don’t need to make a scene here. Perhaps you should find him another partner, someone who can quickly give you a grandchild. Regarding the divorce settlement, you can ask Shawn about the details; I didn’t take much,” I said calmly, trying to defuse the situation.
Susanna dabbed at her tears angrily. “I actually hope now that Shawn moves on with Queena. At least she won’t be as thankless as you. Queena has promised to support Shawn in both his professional and personal life.”
“I agree, Queena is excellent. She and Shawn would be a perfect match. Ms. Lawrence, you should support him in pursuing her, so she can look after you in the future,” I retorted, my words edged with sarcasm.

“Tiffany, did you ever love Shawn? When you married, was it not for who he was but for his wealth? You’re so calculating, it’s frightening.” Susanna accused, stepping back as if I was dangerous.
I was taken aback but decided to let her believe what she wanted.
“Ms. Lawrence, after all these years, do you still believe in love? It’s like ghosts–often talked about but never seen,” I remarked with a wry smile.
That comment seemed to trigger her, and suddenly, she lunged at me and slapped me hard across the face, shouting, “You evil woman! You’re just after my son’s money. Tiffany, you deserve the worst!”
The sharp pain in my cheek was intense.
As Susanna raised her hand again, the office door swung open. Jace stepped in, shielding me and pushing Susanna back firmly. “What do you think you’re doing, you old hag?”
