Chapter 197 You Look Beautiful Today
Finished
Hazel seemed to be waiting for me to ask about this. She curled her lips and said, “My mom is out shopping with someone.”
I couldn’t help but overthink–it was possible Susanna was bonding with Queena as future in–laws.
“Oh, you got rejected just now when trying to flirt.” I smiled, reminding her.
Hazel’s expression stiffened, then she sneered. “It’s that guy’s loss not to know me. I didn’t fail. He’s just not lucky enough.”
“He’s someone I recruited. Don’t set your sights on him.” I knew Hazel had a bad habit of dating handsome men, playing with them until she got bored, and heartlessly dumping them.
Jace was good–looking, and he was short on money. Now that Hazel had her eye on him, I was genuinely worried he’d become her plaything.
Hazel stretched out her fair fingers, admiring her freshly done nails, a confident smile playing at her lips. “Whatever you don’t want me to do, I just have to do. How about a bet? I bet he’ll be sitting in my passenger seat in three days.”
I gave her a contemptuous look. “Don’t ruin him.”
“Tiffany, stop pretending to be kind. Do you even realize you’re stopping a man from striking it rich? It’s not like he’d be with me for nothing. Just the gap between my fingers is enough for him to live well for years.” Hazel revealed her rich–girl nature. Then she got up, walked to the door, looked back at me, and said, “My mom and Queena have been getting along well lately. There’s no room to save your marriage with Shawn.”
With that, she walked out.
I had already guessed it, so I wasn’t surprised.
After resting for more than half an hour, Shawn suddenly burst into my lounge. His eyes were bloodshot from drinking. When he saw me, he suddenly sat down and leaned toward me.
I immediately stood up and dodged to the single sofa on the side. Shawn flopped onto the couch and looked at me with a deep gaze.
“Cut the drunk act.” I saw the intimacy in his eyes and coldly reminded him.
Shawn laughed at himself. “Tiffany, do you remember five years ago, when I lost a lot of money in a failed investment? I was so upset, and you held me while we cried together…“‘
“I don’t remember.” I cut him off directly.
Shawn was stunned and lost the mood to continue. He closed his eyes, as if he’d fallen asleep.
I got up and walked toward the door, but suddenly, Shawn reached out and yanked me back.
As I fell onto the couch, he pulled me tightly into his arms. In the next moment, he pinned me to the long couch beneath him.
“Tiffany, you look… beautiful today.” Shawn stared at my face, his fingers brushing across my cheek…
“Shawn, if you disrespect me again, I’ll call someone.” I was truly angry.
Shawn thought I would get swept up in this ambiguous moment with him.
But I was so cold–like a sting, he was visibly hurt, eyes full of disappointment.
After a pause, he sat up stiffly, and I regained my freedom.

Jace quietly followed and asked, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine.” I adjusted my wrinkled clothes and told him, “We still have ten tables tonight, and we might need your help again. If you’re tired, go take a break now.”
“I’m not tired,” Jace replied immediately.
Just then, an old man came running over to Jace, concern in his voice. “Jace, I’ve finished moving those chairs. Is there anything else I can help with?”
As soon as Jace heard that, he said, “Great–uncle, Ms. Mayfield is here.”
Only then did I realize this old man was Jace’s great–uncle. He was sweaty and looked a bit worn out, and now, he was staring at me in surprise. “Ms. Mayfield, you look different from last time. Forgive my poor eyesight. I didn’t recognize you at first.”
Today, I wore a lot of makeup, which did make me look quite different from before.
“Jace, let your great–uncle go rest. He looks tired,” I reminded him with a frown.
“I’m not tired. I can still help with things…‘
“1
“Great–uncle, you should go back,” Jace said.
The old man paused, then nodded. “Alright. Jace, don’t overwork yourself either.”
At the evening banquet, Susanna and Queena arrived. As soon as Queena walked in, she was warmly greeted–almost as if the company’s executives were still her subordinates. Even Amy got sidelined a bit.
Shawn, having rested all afternoon, was in good spirits during dinner.
Seeing Susanna walk in with Queena, Shawn immediately stood up and called Queena out of the room.
Susanna quickly followed, and Hazel hurried out as well.
Right then, Jace put down what he was holding and said to me, “Ms. Mayfield, I’ll step out for a moment.”
I wanted to call him back, but he had already left.
I suspected Jace was going to get evidence for me again. Sigh, this kid is sharp and highly intelligent.
Sure enough, when Shawn came back again, both Queena and Susanna didn’t look too pleased. They were arranged into a private room and didn’t appear in the main hall anymore.
