“Stop trying. You’re only embarrassing yourself,” I sneered, the words sharp as daggers. “Unless… unless you’re willing to give. me everything. Your money, your life.”
Shawn’s brow furrowed, confusion flickering across his face. “What? You want me to give my life to chase after you?”
I shook my head slowly. Just kidding. Who would keep eating a dish they’re already tired of? Unless they had no other choice and were stuck with the leftovers.”
His face paused for a brief second, a flicker of hesitation before a small smile tugged at his lips. “No one understands you
better than I do.”
I couldn’t help but scoff inwardly. His confidence was rooted in such shallow knowledge of me, it was laughable.
“Let’s end this on good terms,” I said, standing up, ready to leave. “After the divorce, we’ll go our separate ways.”
Shawn followed, his footsteps echoing behind me. As we reached the crosswalk, I picked up a call. The crossing light was about to turn red, and I didn’t notice until I felt his hand on my wrist. “Watch the road,” he said, his grip firm.
The warmth of his touch made my skin tingle, but I yanked my arm away. I stepped aside, waiting for the light to change.
The moment the light turned green, I finished the call in a hurry, my steps quickening as I walked away.
Shawn stood across the street, his eyes locked on me, unmoving. I entered the hotel lobby and caught a glimpse of him one. last time as he bent to get into a silver Bentley parked by the curb, the car pulling away as he disappeared from my sight.
That was when I knew. My heart no longer beat for Shawn.
The man I had once adored–obsessed over for years–was no longer the one I longed for.
I had dreamed of a life with him, a warm little home, filled with laughter and love… but that dream had crumbled.
That night, I took Melanie out to dinner on the hotel’s third–floor restaurant. She marveled at the newly renovated space, her eyes wide with awe. “This is the multi–million–dollar luxury hotel? Oh my god, Tiffany, you’re a gem. I had no idea you had this side to you!”
Her praise warmed my heart, the genuine joy lighting up my face.
I’m finally getting a divorce,” I said, my voice steady but resolute.
Melanie’s eyes widened in shock. “Shawn finally agreed to let go?”
“Yeah”
She clicked her tongue. “Well, that’s a relief. But… after the divorce, aren’t you sad? Don’t you feel heartbroken?”
“Why should I be sad?” I asked, the question leaving my lips without a second thought.
Melanie stepped back, her gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that made me shift uncomfortably. “I saw how much your loved him—your first love, your first kiss. Everything. You really… just walking away from him like this?”
I froze. A sharp pain shot through my chest, as if something invisible had gripped my heart. It was suffocating, a tight ache Quat made it hard to breathe.
But just as quickly as it came, it vanished.
Tm letting myself live without a man in my heart.” I said, my voice strady. “But not without one by my side. If I don’t leave him how will there be a next one? I raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at my lips.

Though I joked, the truth gnawed at me. I had built up walls against men. Now, if anyone tried to get close, to flirt, I recoiled. I wasn’t ready for another relationship.
Shawn had torn apart everything I believed in. I’d trusted him completely, chosen him with all my heart, only to end up with divorce papers in my hands. If I stepped into another relationship, would it be just as messy?
Melanie’s relationship with Richard was steady. They were focused on their careers, planning to wait two years before discussing marriage,
Melanie was always the rational one. At dinner, she had a notebook open, calculating the costs of marriage. Everything was on that list–baby formula, houses, cars. She stared at the numbers, her face falling as the weight of it hit her.
Tiffany, I envy you. You’re about to be a rich woman,” Melanie said, her eyes sparkling. “I can’t stop imagining what I’d do if I won 750,000. How would I spend it?”
I couldn’t suppress a laugh. “Last I checked, you haven’t even bought a lottery ticket”
Melanie’s shoulders slumped. “Yeah, I always thought they were scams. Never even bothered. But I can’t stop dreaming about hitting the jackpot
“If you ever need money, I can lend you some,” I offered, trying to lighten her mood.
“No, I’ll pay it back. Borrowing isn’t the same as earning it, Melanie replied firmly, shaking her head. “I’ll work hard and get that promotion.”
I watched her, impressed. She was a true force of nature. It was no wonder she’d survived three marriages–she had always. known that relying on herself was the only way to thrive.
I’d already talked with my parents about the divorce. They had left the decision to me.
With their support, I felt no fear about the future. Soon enough, the divorce papers landed on my desk, along with my share of the assets. I had asked Melanie’s senior to be my lawyer, and he helped me tally everything. Stocks, property, investments -the total came to over 207 million. More than I had ever imagined.
