Finally, he stood there with his hands on his hips, glaring at me like he was about to explode. “Where’s that man?”
I didn’t expect Shawn to lose his mind and chase me all the way from Hanzora to Craneport like some jealous lunatic.
The guy was seriously unwell.
I pulled my robe tighter, leaned against the wine cabinet, and laughed. “Shawn, let me remind you–this is my home. You barge in here making a scene and think you’re in the right?”
His handsome face froze. That’s when it finally hit him. He and I weren’t family anymore.
If I had our divorce papers on me, I would’ve slapped them across his face to knock some sense into him.
He rubbed his forehead, frustrated, then slumped onto the couch, looking exhausted. “Tiffany, can you just be honest with me for once? Did you already line someone up before the divorce? That guy from yesterday, was it Ethan?”
I blinked.
“Why would I tell you any of that?” I stared at him, confused. “We’re divorced. We have nothing to do with each other anymore.”
“I can’t accept that.” His eyes were bloodshot as he suddenly stood up and started walking toward me, one step at a time. “Do you have any idea what it does to me, just imagining you in bed with another man? It drives me insane. I can’t deal with that image in my head.”
I froze. He was already standing right in front of me. “Tiffany, I swear I’m going crazy. I must’ve been out of my mind to agree to the divorce.”
I shoved him back and walked over to the floor–to–ceiling windows. With my back to him, I said calmly, “I managed to accept you sleeping with Queena. So why can’t you accept me sleeping with someone else?”
“I never slept with Queena,” he said, his voice filled with pain.
I let out a cold laugh. “Sure, because you said so, right? But I’ve dreamed of it a thousand times–you and her. On a mountaintop, in a car, in the locker room at the stadium.”
Shawn stared at me, stunned. “What are you talking about?”
I could hardly breathe, but I still turned my head and looked at him, my eyes icy cold. “Nothing. I just think you should move on and find someone else. Change your taste. Maybe that’ll help your mood.”
He shook his head, his gaze locked stubbornly on me. “I can’t. You’re all I think about now. There’s no one else.”
“That’s because you know you’ll never have me again.” I sneered.
He stood there, frozen for a beat, then gave a bitter laugh. “Tiffany, I’ve been thinking, I was always buried in work all these years we were married. I never took you out to see the world, never watched a sunrise or sunset with you. You used to say you wanted to see the Northern Lights or the stars over Teshkar. I kept telling myself, once things weren’t so busy-”
“Forget it,” I cut him off coldly. “I can see all those beautiful sights by myself. I don’t get you, men. Always saving those grand plans for after the breakup. Where the hell were you when we were actually together?”
He looked like he wasn’t expecting me to hit back that hard. His face stiffened.
Seeing his stunned expression, I couldn’t help but mock him, “Don’t give me that ‘I finally get it‘ look. Men love this kind of crap. Think a big empty promise is enough to keep a woman around. But we’re not dolls. We bleed, we feel. You can’t eat dreams, and all they bring is disappointment, again and again.”
He let out a bitter laugh. “Tiffany, I really didn’t know you at all. You’re right. Men have all kinds of ways to lie to women. But I shouldn’t have done that to you. I won’t do it again.”

His face darkened. His voice turned hoarse as he asked, “So you really did sleep with someone last night?”
I blinked. What kind of logic was his brain running on?

“I don’t owe you any explanation about my personal life.” I straightened up, cool and composed. “Now leave. I want to get some more sleep.”
He looked like someone had slapped him, his face shifting between red and pale.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. My heart skipped a beat.
Shawn got there first and opened it.
Jace stood outside, holding a breakfast box.
“You?” Shawn immediately recognized him he was the new guy I’d recently hired.
Jace smiled politely and greeted him, “Good morning, Mr. Hartwell.”
Shawn turned back to glare at me. “My mom said he’s your boy toy. Looks like she wasn’t wrong. You dragged him all the way to Craneport with you? Tiffany, are you that desperate? Any random guy will do?”
I didn’t even flinch. I stared him down and said calmly, “You had an affair with your subordinate. Why can’t I?”
For a moment, Shawn froze completely.
Then, something inside him cracked. It was in his eyes–like a beautiful crystal shattering all at once, leaving nothing but a dull, broken shell. He just stood there, hollow.
