The door opened again as her mother’s current husband and daughter entered the room. The already cramped space left Mirabel with no place to stand
In her mother’s world, there had never been room for her.
She turned and walked toward the door, but her mother called out loudly after her “Lisa! I’m sorry! I’ve taken out my anger on you all these years and never treated you well.”
Mirabel paused for a moment. “There’s no need to apologize.”
She understood her mother’s pain. To truly move on, she had to let go of everything and start anew.
Outside the room, Aston stared at Mirabel in disbelief. “Did that old woman just call her Lisa?”
Fraser sighed. “Yes, Lisa was her old name. She gave herself a new one.
Aston suddenly grabbed Fraser’s shoulders. “Does she have a large scar on her right ankle?
How do you know?”
Aston staggered backward, collapsing onto a nearby chair.
The girl who had saved his life so many ye
years ago was night in front of him all this time.
He had imagined countless times how he would repay her, giving her the best of everything and fulfilling her every wish But now, not only had he failed to give her anything, but he had also done things that made her despise him
A few days later, Mirabel’s mother passed away.
At the funeral. Mirabel didn’t shed a single tear, but on the way back, she saddenly asked the driver to stop. She ran to the roadside and broke down, sobbing uncontrollably
Aston got out of the car and raised his hand to drape a coat over her shoulders, but Fraser blocked him. Fraser felt Aston was a little too concerned about his wife. It was normal for him, as her husband, to accompany her during her mother’s illness. Part Aston, a distant relative, had given up several lucrative deals just to follow them back to the country.
Fraser couldn’t help but suspect Aston had feelings for Mirabel that he couldn’t express. Watching Aston intently with cold hostility, Fraser said, “she’s my wife. I’ll take care of her No need to trouble you, Ucle.”
He turned and tried to embrace Mirabel, but she shoved him away forcefully.
me!
“Get lost!” Mirabel screamed through bertears. “Please, Fraser, just leave me alone today! Stop disgusting me
Fraser froze, his arms suspended mid–air. A sharp pain pierced his chest–had he truly become such a revolting presence in Mirabel’s late? Was there really no chance for him to make amends?
With beavy steps, he turned and walked away.
In the days that followed, Mirabel still refused to see him, and Fraser, understanding her mood, didn’t force his way in. However, he had her place surrounded by his people, laver upon layer
Mirabel was under house amest
Two weeks later, in the middle of the night, Fraser finally appeared again. Sirring on the edge of the bed, he gently caressed her cheek. “You’ve lost so much weight these past two weeks.”
Mirabel coldly brushed his hand away. “How long do you plan to keep me locked up? Forever?”
“Yes,” Fraser smiled faintly and leaned in to hug her. “I’ve taken care of everything outside. From now on, I won’t go anywhere. I’ll stay here with you. And you’ll stay with me. I know you’re a loyal person. If you leave me, I’ll make sure everyone you care about suffers.”
Mirabel sneered. “You’re insane.”
“I’m not,” Fraser whispered, holding her tightly. “But if you leave me again, I will lose my mind.”
The next day, Fraser had hundreds of wedding gowns delivered to the house. He wanted to make up for missing their third–anniversary p
photoshoot.
The setup team, lighting crew, and photographer were all in place. But just as the photographer was about to press the shutter, Mirabel grabbed a cake from the table and smashed it into Fraser’s chest.
To hell with you! Who wants to take these stupid pictures with you?”
Fraser calmly wiped the frosting of his clothes. “There are plenty of dresses and cakes. If you’re not done venting, feel free to keep throwing
That day, Mirabel threw cakes at him over a dozen times.
On the last attempt, Fraser frowned slightly and pulled her into his arms. “Mirabell, let’s just take the photos, okay? Afterward, you can hit me as much as you
Mirabel smiled faintly, then smashed another cake straight into his face. “Nope.”
The photoshoot never happened.
Unfortunately, the cake contained plum jam, Mirabel’s favorite, but Fraser was severely allergic to it. He passed out on the spot.
When he woke up that evening, the first thing, he did was rush to the kitchen to make her a meal.
But Mirabel wasn’t grateful.
She rattled off the names of over a dozen dishes. Fraser spent two hours in the kitchen preparing them, only for Mirabel to glance at the spread and say, “I don’t feel like eating these now.
She listed a new set of disti
Fraser said nothing and went back to the ldtchen, working late into the night.
Later, as he got into bed after a shower, Mirabel kicked him out. “You’re not allowed to sleep here. You’re filthy.
Fuser chuckled “The showered.”
Mirabel laughed too. “I’m not talking about that kind of dirty. I mean you’ve slept with Darlena so many times. You’re disgusting ”
Fraser’s breath caught. Without a word, he grabbed a blanket and made a bed on the floor.
The next moming, Fraser was woken early by a call from the builer.
Worried about disturbing Mirabel, he tiptoed out of the bedroom, “What is it?”
“Sir, the CEO is at the door. He says he needs to see you.”
