After instructing the caregiver to keep a an eye on things, Aston personally went to retrieve the file.
When he returned, he was surprised to find a woman and two children in the hospital room.
The woman cried out, “Even if you don’t care about anything else, at least think about your own children!”
Aston frowned, his hand pausing on the door.
What was going on? As far as he knew, Fraser and Mirabel didn’t have children. Where did they come from?
Could it be… he had an affair?
“If you die, I’ll take these two children and die with you! If I can’t have you, my life has no meaning!!
Inside the room, Fraser seemed moved. He reached out, gently touching Darlena’s hair and sighed, “Why do this to yourself?”
Aston entered with a cold expression, tossing the document bag onto Fraser. “Here’s what you wanted.”
Fraser opened the bag and pulled out its contents while Darlena clung to his hand, pouring out her emotions. “Fraser, I never liked Mirabel, but I was still deeply saddened by what happened to her. Yet, the dead are gone, and the living must move on Don’t do anything foolish anymore. From now on, let me stay by your side, okay?
She had endured silently for so long, waiting for this day when Mirabel was no longer in the picture. From now on, Fraser would be hers alone.
She was dreaming of a happy future, struggling to suppress the smile forming on her lips, but she didn’t notice Fraser’s face darkening by the second.
In the next instant, Fraser threw the papers at her head, his face pale with fury. He stood and grabbed her by the throat.
“I’ve told you before, I’ll give you anything you want, but you were never to let Mirabel know about this. How dare you! How dare you bring this to her attention! How dare you provoke her over and over!”
“I–I didn’t!” Darlena tried to defend herself, but her eyes fell on the papers scattered on the floor. They included a record of Mirabel’s abortion and screenshots of conversations between her and Mirabel
Her pupils constricted.
She had assumed that with Mirabel’s pride, she would either divorce Fraser or leave quietly, without exposing the truth.
But she hadn’t expected Mirabel to leave behind something like this. That wretched woman!
Fraser’s grip tightened, and for a moment, he regretted not eliminating this troublemaker years ago.
Just before he could strangle Darlena, Aston pulled him back. “Enough! Do you really want to commit murder?”
Gasping for air, Darlena felt true fear for her life. She recoiled from Fraser, sobbing and accusing him, “I’ve been with you for two years without any status, bearing your children! And now you’re really trying to kill me?”
She had been attracted to Fraser’s wealth and power, but she had also genuinely liked him. At this moment, though, all her love tumed into hate-
“Do you think everything that’s happened is solely my fault? If you hadn’t repeatedly failed to control yourself, would I have ever had the chance to provoke Mirabel? And now you want to pin all the blame on me? Dream on!”
“Let me tell you, maybe Mirabel didn’t die in a plane crash. Maybe she took her own life out of despair! And the one truly responsible for her death is you!” Fraser froze in place, stunned by her words.
In the silence that followed, all the oddities of the past few days flashed through his mind, and a thought began to for.
Moments later, he suddenly burst out laughing. “Mirabel isn’t dead! She must have hidden herself somewhere!”
He knew Mirabel too well. She was like wild grass, resilient and full of life. Even if she knew about his betrayal, she would never take her own life. She would simply leave him and hide in a place where he could never find her.
Because she understood him just as well–she knew he would never agree to a divorce. Find out who Mirabel has been in contact with over the past few days, immediately!”
