Hearing his voice, Summer quickly forced her emotions back down, though her voice was still a little hoarse.
“Mr. Lucas, I’m in the middle of something right now. As for what you did for me at the conference… I’ll thank you properly another day.
“You don’t have to thank me. I wanted to do it.”
Lucas walked straight up to her, his eyes fixed on her face.

“I know I said this before, but I have to say it again. I want to take care of you and the baby. Please give me a chance.”
“Anytime you need me, I’ll be there. If you’re willing, we can get married today.”
Summer was caught off guard by another confession from Lucas. She stood there, at a loss for words.

Lucas stared at his empty hand in midair and couldn’t hold back any longer.
“When you needed him most, he still didn’t show up. Why can’t you let him go?”
Summer looked up at him.
“Mr. Lucas, even if I’m not with Fraser, that doesn’t mean I’ll just pick any man to be with. That wouldn’t be fair to you.”
“I don’t care.”
Lucas’s gaze locked on her.
He could see right through her–how fragile she really was, even though she kept up a strong front around him.
