Summer looked at Fraser’s somber expression and bit her lip before asking, “Was this trip to Oblistan a setup by him?”
“Yes.”
Fraser didn’t divulge much, just a few simple words, but after seeing his wounds, Summer could sense the dangers he had faced.
“How old were you then?”
“What?”
Fraser realized she was asking about his age when his father’s plane crashed.
“Six.”
“So, you were raised by Mr. Maximus and Helen.”
“Yes.”
Fraser smiled.
“Ever heard of something called ‘heir training?”
Seeing Summer’s puzzled look, Fraser glanced at a shelf not far
away.
Summer walked over and pulled out a book titled “Heir Training
The cover listed ruthlessness, cruelty, and ferocity.
She opened to the first page.
can we
The book read, “We must cultivate a cold–blooded heir, only in this way ensure the everlasting success of our enterprise!”
What kind of hellish training must one undergo to mold a person into being cold–blooded, cruel, and rational?
Summer closed the book and couldn’t help asking, “What about your mom?”
A mother wouldn’t want her child to be trained like a robot just to continue the family business.
Fraser seemed to recall something painful, his eyes suddenly darkened, his voice low and slow, “After my dad died, she was kidnapped… and they killed her.”
The term ‘killed… The manner in which a woman is ‘killed‘ is horrifying to imagine. Summer dared not ask further.

He must have lacked nothing, living the most privileged life, enjoying the advantages his status brought him.
But she had never considered that his childhood was spent in a cold, mechanical environment. “Pitying me?” Fraser’s dark gaze fixed on her, his voice gentle, “Summer, I don’t want your pity.” Summer glanced at him, “Who said I pity you?”
“When I was a child, I was swapped and raised by Yolanda among enemies, growing up with beatings and scoldings.”
Fraser gently ruffled her hair.
He remembered the first time he saw her, standing there being scolded, her eyes watery but stubborn, trying to hold strong.
After breaking into his secret base, she had vented, “Do all of you dislike me this much?”
Fraser suddenly regretted his initial coldness toward her.
Fraser murmured, “I’m sorry.”
Summer was puzzled, “Why are you apologizing to me?”
Fraser’s deep eyes looked at her, unfathomable as the ocean, his tone very light, “Because when you were little, I didn’t protect you.”
What a fool! We didn’t even know each other in the past, how could he have protected me?
Summer purposefully glared at him, “Are we comparing tragedies?”
Fraser’s lips curved slightly, his smile warm like a mythical creature’s, “With you here, I’m not tragic.”
Childhood could not be changed. It might have been overshadowed by darkness, perhaps unsatisfactory, perhaps a struggle.
But there was always someone in the future. That person became their light, illuminating the path they had come by, warming them.
Suddenly, Summer deeply felt the truth in these words.
Perhaps it was Fraser’s overly intense and passionate favor.
It made her childhood memories, or even memories of Trevor, feel like they were from a long. long time ago…

Two servants again stood at the door with a cart, as the dishes Summer hadn’t touched had
cold.
They had been instructed to have the chef prepare dinner anew.
Summer stepped aside, letting the servants push the cart into the room.
gone
Seeing they were about to set the cart in the sitting area, Summer waved them off, “No need, just put it by the bed.”
After the servants left respectfully, Summer held a bowl and used a spoon to pick some light dishes, sitting at the edge of the bed.
Seeing her actions, Fraser raised an eyebrow, “Are you going to feed me?”
Summer’s face flushed, “I’m just worried your hands might be useless now.”
Fraser lay back lazily on the bed, his gaze fixed unwaveringly on Summer, like a quiet, curling leaf in the night.
