Chapter 16
Karena stared, her eyes wide, as though she had seen something terrifying, taking several steps back before losing her balance and stumbling.
“You… you… Impossible! This can’t be! You’re… you’re dead, aren’t you?”
I laughed coldly, shaking my head. “Why would I be dead? I was just in poor health, so my mother arranged for me to recuperate abroad. Now that I’m almost better, she’s asked me to return and take over the family business.”
“Your mother?”
I smirked, my voice dripping with mockery. “I should introduce myself properly. I’m Carmel,

Coleman, chairwoman of the Coleman Group, is my mother.”
I watched her closely, enjoying the way her expression faltered in shock.
“You…” She still couldn’t recover from the shock and fear.
I snickered. “Is something wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Did you do. something you shouldn’t have?”
“How could… how could this be?” she muttered to herself.
Feigning surprise, I leaned in. “What’s this about?”
“Uh… nothing.” She finally regained some composure. “So you’re Carmel? Hah! Let

me tell you, Carmel, I don’t care if you’re
Carmel or Emonie. If you’re going to steal my husband away from me, I’ll make sure you pay!”
Gavin shoved her aside. “Stop blaming innocent people! I’m the one who strayed, not Carmel. She only pitied me, and frankly, she’s done me a huge favor. You should be thanking her!”
“Are you out of your mind, Gavin?”
na pointed at me, her voice trembling
with rage. “She’s going to steal you from me, and I’m supposed to thank her?”
“You think Carmel is like you?” Gavin shot back, his voice sharp. “Just because I slept with her, you think she’ll force me into marriage? Don’t project your filthy thoughts onto her! Go home, your kid needs you. Stay

out of my business. If you keep interfering, I’ll divorce you.”
“Divorce me, and marry her, right?” Karena’s eyes were bloodshot with fury. “Are you
still hung up on Emonie, wanting Carmel to replace her? You scum!”
“Yes!” Gavin replied without hesitation. “I can’t get over Emonie! She’s a perfect wife, while you only fit the role of a mistress! But you’re too greedy–wanting to be my wife. Now that you’ve gotten what you wanted, you’re still not satisfied! What do you want from me?”
“I want you to change-”
Karena burst into tears, her sobs shaking her body. “I want you to be a good man, a good husband, a good father! Stop sleeping with other women!”

“Are you telling jokes?” Gavin licked his lips, his patience running thin. “That’s never going to happen! If you can’t take it, we’ll divorce! Now, get out of here! Otherwise, I’ll make sure your company goes bankrupt!”
“You’re a bastard!”
Karena covered her mouth, retreating like a stray dog, humiliated and defeated.
Gavin let out a deep breath, hands on his hips, his gaze directed at me. “Sorry, Carmel. You had to witness that mess. I’ll compensate you–one hundred million.”
“Mr. Chambers, you’re too kind!” I smiled insincerely. “Tonight was truly a surprise; I saw the real side of Mr. Chambers! I admire how transparent you are as a scoundrel. You’re the perfect match for a business

alliance! If our families join forces, we’ll definitely dominate the market. What do you think, Mr. Chambers?”
I seized the moment, suggesting a marriage. proposal.
I had already figured it out–Gavin was attracted to Karena’s sharpness, but also to my former gentleness. Now, as Carmel, I combined both traits–Karena’s astuteness and my past warmth.
Gavin’s heart had already tilted in my favor.
These days, Karena had been suspicious of Gavin, constantly arguing with him. He must have grown tired of her by now.
Proposing marriage, and offering the business interests he loved as leverage, was bound to tempt him.
