Chapter 23

“It’s nothing!” Karena shrugged, appearing indifferent. “You’re the father of the child, so I think you have the right to know.”
“Is that all?”
“If you divorce Emonie and marry me, that would be perfect!”
“Dream on!”
I firmly rejected Karena.
“Then just think of it as something I said offhand.”
Karena smiled and left.

Before she went out, I added, “A mistress is just a mistress. Don’t think you can become Mrs. Chambers. You don’t deserve it! You’d better behave yourself and not talk behind Emonie’s back. Otherwise, I won’t let you off the hook!”
“I know!”
I could tell from her tone that it was
sarcastic.
I was also worried she might go and tell Emonie about our relationship.
So, I often came home and asked Emonie how she was, trying to get some information.
Once I confirmed that Karena hadn’t spoken to Emonie, I was relieved.

The delicate balance in our triangle was maintained, and I was very satisfied with it.
Karena named our son “Walon” and would occasionally bring him to me, saying that children needed a father’s love. I could ignore her, but I had to be responsible for the child.
It was such a hassle!
S
But, in the end, the child was innocent. The ones at fault were adults like us who didn’t take responsibility.
If I could atone for some of the sins towards him, I would try my best.
Walon was a good child, very well–behaved and mature beyond his years.
Spending time with him, I gradually
developed feelings for the child.

Karena seemed to notice my change, which was probably why she orchestrated for
Emonie to catch us in bed together on her birthday.
Seeing Emonie’s wounded eyes, like a little rabbit, my heart ached.
I actually let her find out I was cheating?
I was such a scoundrel!
ie was such a pure person. I shouldn’t
I
have exposed her to such a filthy scene!
I shouldn’t have tainted her innocent soul!
And that woman, Karena–she promised to be a mistress and never aim for more, but behind my back, she plotted against me! Damn it!

After Emonie caught us, I was worried about her emotional state, so I called my father–in–law to comfort her.
My mother–in–law had been in a car accident when the Duncan Group was on the verge of bankruptcy and had been in a coma ever since.
Otherwise, they would have comforted Emonie together, and she wouldn’t have been so upset until Karena showed up with the child and triggered her. It was only then that she promised she would never divorce me.
Looking back, I had to admit that Karena did one good thing.
But from how she went about it, I totally disagreed!
5/8
She actually told Emonie the truth about how I took over the Duncan Group?!
That was unforgivable!
I had already started thinking about completely cutting ties with this woman!
If she kept causing trouble like this, Emonie would divorce me sooner or later!
I couldn’t let that happen!
warned Karena sternly, but instead, she went crazy and got Emonie’s parents killed!
Then Karena threatened me, demanding I destroy all the evidence and help her keep things hidden from Emonie. She promised she would never show up in front of me or Emonie again.
6/8
To me, this was a deal that worked out.
Karena could disappear, and I wouldn’t have to support Emonie’s parents anymore. That saved me a lot of money!
It was a bargain!
Too good to be true!
I immediately agreed to Karena’s terms.
But I
never imagined this woman would be so cunning. She actually kidnapped Emonie at the Wright family’s wedding reception and pushed her off a cliff.
“Now that Emonie’s dead, the position of
Mrs. Chambers is vacant. You can marry me
now.”
“Walon can’t keep being a bastard child.
7/8
It’s too pitiful for him! If you don’t agree, I’ll strangle him right now!”
“Also, I’ll tell the police how you helped me destroy the murder evidence. We’ll both be done for!”
That was her threat!
I couldn’t help but want to slap her!
Back when I was working at the club, no one dared to mess with me, but now, Karena had me wrapped around her finger!
For the Chambers Group I built, I had no choice but to agree to Karena’s demands.
I didn’t bother searching for Emonie’s body. I applied for her death certificate and quickly registered my marriage with Karena.
