Lyla nodded enthusiastically at the mention of taking her to make fireworks. Her head bobbing. up and down like a pecking chick. “Yes, yes, yes! Thank you, Aunt Clara! You’re the best!”
Clara gently stroked Lyla’s hair, as she watched the sheer joy on her face. But in her mind, ant image of Wesley surfaced.
A sharp pang shot through her heart.
It seemed like the only time Wesley ever looked this excited was when he was around Natalie. When it came to her, his expressions were either filled with disdain or irritation.
Perhaps her departure was a blessing for him. He no longer had to endure her discipline, eat food Jhe disliked, or seek her approval for anything. He was finally free..
The next morning. Lyla was up bright and early, practically buzzing with excitement. Clara knew she was eager to visit the fireworks factory and see how fireworks were produced. Despite her eagerness, Lyla was polite enough not to rush Clara. Instead, she sat quietly on the sofa, stealing glances at Clara every few seconds. However, she was at an age where she could not hide secrets. The eagerness in her eyes gave her up.
“Let’s go.” After a simple breakfast, Clara took Lyla to the factory.
Since it was the weekend, the factory was relatively quiet. Clara guided Lyla through the process. of making a small–sized firework, carefully measuring and mixing the ingredients, sealing the casing, and ensuring everything was in place. She meticulously adjusted the ratios and materials. based on the design Lyla requested last night, before finally producing a prototype.
When they lit it up, the firework burst into the sky and exploded with a bunch of dazzling colors. Lyla’s round eyes sparkled with exhilaration like she was witnessing a grand miracle.
“Aunt Clara, you’re amazing!” Lyla exclaimed as she stared at the fading sparks. She looked up аг Clara with admiration as if she was looking at a goddess. “I want to make one too!”
Clara led her to the workspace again without hesitation.
Lyla carefully followed the steps under Clara’s guidance. She asked about different materials based on the firework designs and assembling everything with precision. Step by step, she worked diligently and mirrored Clara’s earlier actions.
Before long, Lyla’s firework was ready. They took it outside, lit the fuse, and watched as it shot into the sky, exploding in a beautiful cascade of colors.
“Aunt Clara, I did it! I really did it!” Lyla squealed with delight, throwing her arms around Clara.
Clara was stunned. Lyla had succeeded on her first try. She had only demonstrated the process once, yet Lyla had managed to replicate it flawlessly.
She’s incredibly smart. So talented.

Encouraged by the compliment, Lyla beamed even brighter. “Aunt Clara, let’s make more! I want to light them all up and show Mommy!”
“Alright.”
For the rest of the day, the two of them worked tirelessly in the small workshop, creating one firework after another. If not for a worker bringing them lunch, they might have even forgotten

By nightfall, they had successfully crafted over a dozen fireworks. Clara checked the time. It was already seven in the evening. Seeing that Lyla was still eager to continue, she gently stopped her.
“Lyla, it’s getting late. We should head back. Next time, I’ll bring you here again, alright?”
Lyla looked down at the fireworks they had made. Though reluctant to leave, she still nodded. “Okay.”
see the results of their work, they packed the fireworks into bags and set out to find a safe light them.
After dinner, Clara took Lyla to a nearby park.
With the New Year approaching, the park was already filled with children and their parents, all lighting fireworks by the lakeside.
“Aunt Clara, hurry! Take a picture! I want to send it to Mommy! She’ll be so happy when she sees that I made these!” Lyla squealed excitedly, edging closer to the fireworks.
Clara, worried she might get burned, quickly pulled her back. “Lyla, don’t stand so close. It’s dangerous.”
Lyla obediently took a few steps back.
“Mommy? What are you doing here?”
Just as Clara lifted her phone to snap a photo, a voice suddenly interrupted them. She turned around to find Wesley and Natalie standing behind her.
Ignoring them, Clara smiled warmly at Lyla. “Lyla, three, two, one–cheese!”
A stunning photograph appeared on her screen. Excited, Lyla rushed over. “Let me see! Let me
She pointed at the fireworks in the picture, her eyes shining. “They look so beautiful!”
“Of course,” Clara said with a soft chuckle. “Fireworks made by Lyla are the most beautiful.”
Standing to the side, Wesley felt an inexplicable surge of anger as the two completely ignored hist

Wesley glanced at her dismissively before turning to Clara, his face filled with grievance. “Mommy, who is she? Why are you treating her so well? Why did you ignore me when I called you?”
Clara cast him a cool glance. “Who she is has nothing to do with you. Who I care about has

Wesley’s face flushed red. “I… I was calling for you.” Turning his head away, he looked embarrassed.
Clara simply extended her hand and took her phone back. She had no intention of indulging him further.
Wesley looked at her in disbelief. “Why did you take the phone back? Shouldn’t apologizing to me?”

In his memory, every time something like this happened, Clara would always apologize first. He had expected her to do the same today. But instead, she had simply retrieved her phone without a second thought.
“Why should I apologize? You took my phone, and I merely took back what belongs to me. That’s perfectly reasonable,” Clara replied indifferently.
Wesley was stunned.
At that moment, Natalie stepped forward, her tone filled with displeasure. “Clara, no matter what, Wesley is still your son. Even if you like this little girl, you can’t just ignore him.”
Hearing this, Wesley turned his furious gaze toward Lyla.
Clara frowned in irritation. She glanced at Wesley, then at Natalie, before instinctively pulling Lyla closer to her side, shielding her.
Seeing her protective gesture, Wesley’s anger flared. He was convinced that Lyla was the reason his mother had abandoned him.
“Natalie, stop spouting nonsense!” Clara snapped, her patience wearing thin.
