Chapter 25 Sleeping With Him
Rebecca had planned to take care of Marcus early and retreat to her room to avoid Nathan, but now she found herself facing him, her expression full of awkwardness. She remembered her behavior from the night before–it had been too over the top, too inappropriate.
She lowered her head, her voice as small as a mosquito’s, apologizing. Tm sorry, I was drunk last night,”
Nathan hadn’t expected to find her in her room. Observing her embarrassed demeanor, he removed his suit jacket and placed it aside, commenting dryly. “Well, it’s quite unfortunate indeed, since I’ve never been taken advantage of by a woman before.”
His tone sounded casual, but whether it was teasing or reproaching, it left Rebecca feeling even more embarrassed and flushed.
If she had known he would respond like that, she might as well have not apologized at all! Now, the situation felt even more
awkward.
Her head bowed lower, her cheeks burning, she apologized again, “Sorry, it was my fault. If you’re really angry, you can punish me. I didn’t mean to do it”
Nathan scoffed, a smirk forming on his lips, countering. “Punish you? How? By taking advantage of you too?”
Cough, cough!
Rebecca couldn’t even begin to imagine such a scenario, frantically shaking her head, “No! Physical punishment, fines, anything but that,”
Her response was crisp, clearly full of resistance.
Nathan raised an eyebrow, “I was just joking. Why so serious? Did you really think I’d be interested?”
His tone carried a mix of mockery and playfulness.
Rebecca was left speechless. That infuriating man!
However, Nathan didn’t continue on this topic. His gaze swept around the room, finally landing on the clothes in her hands, “Is Marcus taking a bath?”
Remembering her nephew, Rebecca nodded, “Ah, yes.”
She hurried into the bathroom and to her horror, found Marcus asleep in the bathtub, his little body slowly slipping underwater. She rushed over in panic.
“Marcus, wake up, let’s dry off and you can sleep in bed.”
Hearing her, Nathan entered the bathroom. Seeing her struggling with her cast to lift Marcus, he frowned and approached, “I’ve got him.”
Rebecca let out a small “Oh, stepped back, and watched him lift Marcus from the tub. She quickly grabbed a towel and followed them.out.
Once he laid Marcus on the bed, she cautiously helped dry the bay off. Marcus slept soundly, peacefully.
Up close, Rebecca’s gentle movements and the faint scent of her perfume were intoxicating, even comforting, which made Nathan’s gaze soften unexpectedly.
Rebecca dried Marcus off and was about to grab his clothes when her hand brushed against Nathan’s. Looking up, she found herself caught in his strikingly handsome and profound gaze. The peripheral vision of his damp shirt outlining his well- defined muscles made her breath catch.

Nathan said nothing, merely dressing the boy, his expression deepening just slightly. As Rebecca stood to leave, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her hair.
“Ah!” She unexpectedly fell back onto the bed, looking down to see Marcus’s tiny hand gripping her hair and Nathan’s shirt, murmuring. “Mummy, don’t go… Daddy, Mummy, stay with me.”
His small voice was full of deep longing. At three years old, Marcus naturally craved the warmth of family; wanting his parents by his side even in sleep was a sign of how much warmth he was missing.
Rebecca felt a pang of heartache and guilt.”
Nathan hadn’t realized that beneath Marcus’s seemingly indifferent exterior was a deep–seated need.
His eyes narrowed slightly at the firm grip of those little hands, and he couldn’t bring himself to pull away, instead suggesting. “You sleep on the inside, leave when he’s asleep.”
“Ah?” Sleep on his bed?
Rebecca felt this was inappropriate, but before she could object, Nathan had already elegantly lain down next to the boy. His casual and uncopcerned demeanor left no room for awkwardness.
It seemed he was doing it for Marcus, and if she made a fuss, it would appear that she was overthinking.
Reluctantly, she kicked off her shoes and lay down inside the bed. The main lights were turned off, leaving only the soft glow of the bedside lamp. The room settled into a warm quietude.
All that could be heard was their breathing.
Rebecca wanted to remain detached, but the close proximity to Nathan–separated only by little Marcus–recalled the memories of that night years ago they had shared. She felt incredibly restless, unable to calm her nerves.
This was torture! And the torture only increased.
Not long after Marcus fell asleep, he turned towards Nathan, pulling on her hair, causing her pain and forcing her to look his
way.
Their faces were close, their breaths mingling, creating an unmistakable tension and awkwardness,
Rebecca’s cheeks were burning, she quickly closed her eyes, not daring to look at him.
Her deer–like vulnerability was tantalizing.
Nathan found it hard to believe that this gentle woman had been with other men. He was even more surprised by his own feelings–the same restlessness from four years ago. Damn it, why am I linking her to that night four years ago?
Time passed quietly.
Rebecca had planned to wait until Marcus was deeply asleep to gently remove his hand and slip away. However, after a day full of activities, she was overwhelmed by sleepiness and soon drifted off
She had a habit in her sleep of needing to press against something for comfort. With Emma, it was Emma; without Emma, it was the blankets Thus, as she slept, she instinctively raised her leg and pressed it onto Nathan.
Nathan hadn’t fallen asleep. he had been contemplating future arrangements for Jocelyn to move into the villa, considering Marcus’s need for a mother’s love.
Suddenly feeling her delicate leg on his, his eyes darkened, and he shifted his leg to avoid her.
“Um…” Rebecca reached out again, her leg rising higher, pressing onto his

Thus, Nathan’s night was spent with his son’s small hands and legs on him, and now, a Rebecca’s leg as well…
Sleep was elusive this night.
The next morning, the crisp tone of a cell phone shattered the morning’s calm.

She ran her fingers through her hair, got up, and picked up her phone from the nightstand. Seeing Natasha’s call, she yawned and answered, “Hello? Natasha, good morning.”
Natasha skipped greetings, her voice filled with urgency, “Rebecca, it’s bad, Emma is in trouble!”
What! Emma is in trouble?
Rebecca’s heart leapt to her throat, her voice full of shock and concern. “What happened to Emma?”
