Chapter 4 Seduction
At such a critical moment, Nathan sat gracefully on the couch, his slender fingers rhythmically tapping the edge of the armrest with an air of elegance and poise. He looked utterly detached, as if the situation unfolding before him had nothing to do with him.
What a cold, indifferent man! Help me out here!
The click of Jocelyn’s high heels stopped right in front of the curtain.
Rebecca was on the verge of tears. She shut her eyes tightly, desperately crafting excuses in her mind and bracing herself for the worst.
But just then, the man on the sofa finally spoke. “Jocelyn, we’re out of red wine. Go grab a bottle from the wine shop.”
Jocelyn froze mid-step.
She wasn’t particularly close with Nathan, but they had spent enough time together for her to understand his refined and selective tastes. He would never drink wine from just any random store.
Still, she never said no to his requests. “Alright.”
Without further delay, she stepped out of the villa. Yet, as she crossed the threshold, she glanced back, her eyes catching sight of the feet beneath the curtain. Her gaze shifted sharply.
Does he think I’m blind? Those feet are right there, clear as day!
She was determined to find out who this woman was, the one bold enough to seduce her fiancé. What kind of woman could compel the ever-proud and precise Nathan to lie on her behalf?
…
As Jocelyn’s footsteps faded, the villa returned to silence.
Rebecca’s pounding heart finally calmed down. That was close. Just a bit more, and she would have been caught. Thankfully…
But hiding like this, and with Nathan covering for her, made it seem as if they had some unspeakable relationship. Her face flushed as she stepped out. “Thank you for helping me earlier. I’ll leave now.”
“Leave?” Nathan’s cold laugh cut her off, his sharp gaze locking onto her like a blade. “Why do you look exactly like Jocelyn?”
His voice was icy and interrogative, each word pressing down on her like a judge’s gavel. It was clear that without a satisfactory answer, she wasn’t going anywhere.
Rebecca froze mid-step.
She and Jocelyn were twins, naturally identical to the point of startling even themselves when they first met. But she had no idea how to explain this without exposing too much.
Her hesitation only deepened the frost on Nathan’s face.
He stood, his tall, imposing figure towering over her. His voice, now even colder, carried a sharp edge. “Plastic surgery? Impersonation? Seduction?”
Each word dripped with scorn and accusation.
Rebecca’s delicate brows furrowed. What? Plastic surgery? Seduction? I’m completely natural, right down to the last eyelash. Where do I even look like I’ve had plastic surgery? He’s the one who needs his eyes checked!
“Sir, you’re the one who initiated things with me, remember? I was just here to deliver food. You grabbed me, talked about role-playing, and even kissed me. If anything, you were harassing me! I could report you!” she retorted, her cheeks burning as she recalled the earlier events.
Nathan, who had never been insulted by anyone, not even world leaders, found himself accused of harassment and threatened with a report.
His dark eyes narrowed dangerously. “Oh? Report me, then. Let’s see if the authorities believe I harassed you, or if they charge you for deliberately impersonating my fiancée to get close to me. Let’s find out.”
His magnetic voice was calm yet carried an unmistakable air of menace.
Nathan was a man of power and influence, Rebecca was a nobody. To outsiders, it was clear who would be seen as the pursuer in this scenario.
But she wasn’t trying to get close to him at all!
Frustrated and indignant, Rebecca’s chest heaved. Not only did he kiss me without permission, but now he’s framing me for something I didn’t even do?
She glared at him, her dark eyes blazing. “Sir, have you never heard of identical twins? My name is Rebecca, and I’m Jocelyn’s twin sister. Meeting you was pure coincidence. I hid earlier because it wasn’t convenient for me to appear in front of Jocelyn and risk her misunderstanding. If you don’t believe me, feel free to investigate.”
Her voice was clear and resolute, leaving no room for doubt.
Nathan’s brows furrowed. Twins?
The possibility hadn’t even crossed his mind. When did Jocelyn get a twin sister?
“And another thing, sir,” she continued, her tone laced with defiance, “you should get your eyes checked. Mistaking me for your wife? I would never, ever be interested in someone like you, let alone try to seduce you!”
With that, she tilted her chin up and turned to leave, radiating indignation.
Nathan watched her retreating figure, his handsome face darkening rapidly.
Eyes checked? Not interested? She’s acting like I’m the one chasing her!
Yet, as his thoughts drifted back to their earlier kiss, his lips tightened into a thin line. She stirred something deep within him, a feeling that unmistakably echoed that night, four years ago…
