That word caught Nathan’s attention. His sharp gaze shifted to Marcus and Emma. He did notice–they really did look harmonious and adorable together. Both were just.. likable.
Rebecca, on the side, felt her heart jump straight to her throat.
She had completely overlooked the resemblance between the kids. Now that she looked… Yeah, they did look alike.
No! No, they don’t!
Her voice came out tense and awkward as she rushed to say, “That’s not possible. Emma’s only two. Clearly younger. It’s impossible. They don’t look alike at all.”
Caleb frowned. Two? She looks small, yeah, but she doesn’t seem like a two–year–old. More like someone whose growth was stunted from being sick as a baby?
Rebecca was speechless.
What the hell–was Caleb some kind of divine doctor? Emma had nearly died at birth due to oxygen deprivation. She was sickly and frail, and it had taken everything Rebecca had to nurse her back to health. And he figured that out with one glance?
They couldn’t stay any longer. “It’s getting late. Emma’s still recovering from what happened today. We should go home.
At the mention of Emma’s injuries, Nathan remembered what the child had gone through. He turned to Caleb. “She was pricked with needles. Prepare some medicine for her.”
“Oh, alright. I’ll make a prescription when I get back.”
Nathan didn’t linger. He took Marcus, Rebecca, and Emma straight to the car and left.
Caleb watched the four of them walking away, looking like… like a real family.
Damn. First he thinks they look like twins, now they look like a family of four. Is something wrong with my eyes today?
On the way home, Rebecca sat anxiously, clearly distracted.
She said carefully. “Once we’re back in the city, just drop me and Emma off anywhere. I’ll take her for a walk and head home
on our own”
Marcus immediately pouted “Ms. Rebecca, I want to go too.
Rebecca didn’t want the two kids spending time together She gently explained, “Marcus, be good. Emma’s not feeling too well today. I want to get her home early to rest. I’ll come spend time with you tomorrow.”
“But Mommy. I feel great! I want to stay with Future Daddy and that boy!”
Rebecca was speechless.
Ok god ne
e kill me now.
the driver’s seat, Nathan glanced at Rebecca through the rearview mirror. She was visibly anxious, flustered, and there was unreadable expression on her face. And she’s been coming out all evening. Is it because of Sebastian!
His gup on the steering wheel tightened, the knuckles turning white.
By the time they arrived, both kids had fallen asleep
Nathan undid his seatbelt. “I’ll carry her up

He looked at her and asked. “Why the rush? Planning to meet up with Sebastian!”
The question came out of nowhere, blanketing her in invisible pressure.
Finished
Rebecca blinked in confusion, then fired back instinctively. “What are you talking about? Are you high or something“”
Righteously indignant. Totally unbothered. She was even insulting him–and Nathan smiled. There was a softness at the corner of his mouth. “Good. As long as you’re not. I’ll carry Emma.”
Without waiting for her response, he opened the door. removed his suit jacket, and gently draped it over Emma’s tiny sleeping form. Then he carefully lifted her into his arms and strode toward the building.
Rebecca was puzzled.
Did I say he could carry her? And what was with that “as long as you’re not“? What did that even mean?
Whether I meet up with Sebastian or not. What’s it to him?
Still, she couldn’t leave Marcus in the car. She picked him up and hurried after Nathan.
Nathan glanced back and frowned. “Why are you carrying him too?”
Rebecca replied. There’ve been a lot of reports about kids getting left in cars and suffocating to death. You’d really leave Marcus alone like that? I’ve never seen a more careless father.”
Nathan was speechless.
His car was top–of–the–line. built with every safety measure imaginable. And Marcus was smart–he never worried. But she actually thought of that pretty thoughtful. And her care for Emma was just as strong.
He narrowed his eyes. “You’re quite the nurturer. Twenty–two, and already overflowing with motherly love?”
Rebecca choked on her own spit.
She’s my own flesh and blood of course I have motherly love‘ But she didn’t dare say that. I’ve loved kids since I was little. Always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Anyway, go ahead and put Emma in the back room.”
Nathan didn’t think much of it. He carried Emma into the back room and gently laid her on the bed, tucking her in with soft
Care
His hands were gentler than when he tucked in Marcus.
If he knew Emma was his daughter, he’d probably turn into a total girl–dad and she’d be so spotted
Wait, what am I thinking? Emma ii mine! Only mine!
As soon as he set Emina down, Rebecca swooped in and scooped up Marcus. Here, take Marcus home now.”
Another attempt to kick him out
Nathan’s face immediately darkened. Why does she always want me gone! “I’ve been running around all afternoon and haven’t had a drop to cat. Is this how you treat someone who helped you?”
Uh–oh
She had forgotten–Emma had dinner at school. Marcus ate with Caleb. But she and Nathun, hadn’t eaten anything
“Then how about you put Marcus on the bed for now and take a quick rest? I’ll whip something up
“Okay”
Rebecca was speechless

Fimshed
Nathan gently set Marcus down next to Emma. Under the soft glow of the nightlight, the two kids looked peaceful and sweet Their features the longer he looked, the more similar they seemed.
“They look like a pair of twins”
Caleb’s voice echoed in his mind. Nathan’s gaze darkened.
If they really were twins… that’d be nice.
As he sank deeper into thought, a trinket on the nightstand caught his eye. He picked it up–it was a photo of Rebecca and
Emma.
Emma was only a few months old then, tiny and frail like a kitten. One squeeze and it looked like she could vanish. Rebecca’s expression was soft, with a warm smile. Loving. Happy
Emma looks… a lot like her biological daughter.
The thought was bold.
Just then-
“Nathan.” Rebecca appeared in the doorway.
han snapped out of it and looked over. She was wearing an apron, her hair loosely tied up, her face clean and sweet–pure and homely. How does someone who’s had a child still look like this?
He set the photo down and stood up. “Is it ready?”
Rebecca nodded. “Mm–hmm.”
Nathan followed her out.
At the table, he saw a bowl of plain noodles. His expression immediately cooled. This i
it?”
He clearly remembered–that time she cooked for Sebastian, she made a full spread. And now this?
Rebecca had no idea he was still hung up on that. She assumed the meal looked too simple and quickly explained, “It’s already late, and Marcus fell asleep. If we go back now, it’ll be too late. So I just made something quick. If you don’t like it, 1 can order delivery. Or treat you to something better another day.”
That explanation made Nathan’s mood ease slightly.
she really dared treat Sebastian like royalty and him like dirt she’d be dead to hum
“No need to wait. I’m not leaving tonight”
What‘ He’s not leaving! He… staying the night
